Infuriatig Spent $50 on gopro batteries, they showed up like this

Ordered them straight from walmart for delivery, they showed up with clearance stickers for more than half off 🤦. Should i contact customer support and try to get the difference refunded, or is that even worth it with walmart?

Take them to the Walmart and show the receipt with the items

516

u/capncapitalism 17h ago

This, and if you used credit/debit they can look up purchases with the number and print one out. Or if you used a Walmart account, same thing.

121

u/LonelyGameBoi 16h ago

Make sure its the walmart that the purchase originated from, they don't like taking the ship from store orders at other locations

19

u/DoritoDustThumb 5h ago

They don't have a choice

7

u/Suspicious-Coach-644 4h ago

Yeah but they can try to tell you otherwise and make it harder on you for no reason

3

u/Medical-Cicada-4430 BROWN 3h ago

Like you said making online order and they delivered locally Lots of times it’ll be like that My local has stuff cheaper in store (clearance like yours) vs online. Varies by locations so online won’t show you the price u less your in store mode (actually there).

366

u/OrangeOne_ 18h ago

Their app mentions that the prices online and in-store may be different. It’s worth a shot getting the difference back. Maybe you’ll have to return it in-store and then purchase it again right away.

148

u/Practical-Agent9 17h ago

Yeah i went in loops with their AI and it kept saying how their policy doesn’t cover partial refunds for products that go on clearance after I purchase them. But my thing is - if it wasn’t on clearance when I purchased it, how did it show up with a clearance sticker on it?

97

u/InstructionSenior346 17h ago

Unfortunately the website won’t be able to help you. The only way you MIGHT be able to get a “refund” of the difference is going to your local store and returning them at full price and asking to repurchase them at the “clearance” price.

53

u/LonelyGameBoi 16h ago

I did this in January, this is the way. just make sure you go to the store the order originated from, which you might need to ask support for.

11

u/anticerber 10h ago

Nah they were already on clearance. The issue is that buying it on the site vs the store. They can give you two entirely different prices. Even if you are choosing to get it from a particular store the prices can be different. It’s stupid I know. Like for instance I know a guy at my local Walmart was telling me for a while a lot of produce was much cheaper to order for pick up rather than coming into the store and buying it.

And there is a policy stating they don’t have to reflect the price of the store when you buy it online.

Now if you know what store it came from that had them on clearance you could possibly go there. Ask if you can refund the purchase then buy them back due to the price difference. I really doubt they’d fight you on it.

u/D3LICI0U5 18h ago

Yes. Get that money.

u/SeaSchell14 8h ago edited 8h ago

When you say you ordered delivery, was it local delivery fulfilled by something like DoorDash (items delivered in bags), or was your order shipped through the mail via FedEx or UPS or something?

If it was local delivery, definitely go to the store you ordered from and try for a refund.

If it was shipped through the mail though, there’s a good chance you ordered from a dropshipper/reseller rather than from Walmart directly. Meaning someone else found these items on clearance and resold them online for a profit. In that instance, I’d guess you’re unlikely to get a refund for the difference, but it doesn’t hurt to give it a shot.

-42

u/hardplay2118 6h ago

Refund for what? They received the items they ordered

33

u/mdebo932 6h ago

Because they payed $50 and received $24 of merchandise? They should get a $26 refund to make up the difference between the tag price

-22

u/DoritoDustThumb 5h ago

What 😂. They were offered a price and accepted it. They got exactly what they paid for. Do you know what a distributor is?

15

u/BigPurplePickles 4h ago

Do you? Do you know how Walmart distribution specifically works too?

Cause I do lol, and this isn’t supposed to happen.

Yes sometimes prices may not match but clearance items are supposed to be updated to the online inventory too for the specific stores.

That doesnt apply to online sales, they can have seperate warehouse and online prices like costco

You have a poor understanding of the law if you believe that.

2

2

u/chosenbyyoutoday 12h ago

What law do Costco break by having higher prices online than in-store?

49

u/CybergothiChe 18h ago

You should ask for the difference back, you got ripped off.

But you should also be prepared for Walmart to say "you agreed to the price on purchase making it a legal contract and you can cram your refund wherever your kind traditionally crams things."

25

u/Practical-Agent9 18h ago

Yeah unfortunately that’s what i’m thinking. But what’s funny is if it simply showed up WITHOUT the sticker, I would’ve been fine because it’s still $10 cheaper than off the official gopro website

13

u/steffies 18h ago

If they give you hassle, just have them process a return at the customer service counter and then say you'd like to rebuy those same ones for the sticker price.

3

u/capncapitalism 17h ago

Calling doesn't hurt. Worst that can happen is you're right back where you are with some gopro batteries.

11

u/Salt-Operation 18h ago

That’s when you return those fuckers immediately and buy them elsewhere.

7

u/favorable_vampire 17h ago

For more? To show em?

4

u/SatiricalScrotum 17h ago

No, from Walmart. Return them for full price refund, then go pick them up from the clearance section and buy them again for half price.

2

u/yaboyACbreezy 17h ago

Did you not even read? Why would you pay more to prove a point that nobody is going to forward to the c-suite?

45

u/snow-bird- 18h ago

They just pulled this shit with a sweatshirt. $17.97 and arrived with a $13 clearance sticker. Online customer service said they couldn't refund the difference because it was delivered. I said yup! Delivered from the STORE not a warehouse. I tool to service desk my next shopping trip & got my $ back.

13

u/Practical-Agent9 17h ago

Nice!! I’m gonna have to try service desk tomorrow, although it did ship from a warehouse because they weren’t within a couple hours of me :/. Definitely worth a shot though!

26

u/LonelyGameBoi 16h ago

I had this happen to me with a 2tb ssd earlier this year, it was already on sale, but it arrived with a significant clearance sticker. Support couldn't help me, but did tell me what store it came from, so I went there and was refunded the difference.

8

u/sacredfool 13h ago

Your post reminded me I should shop around for a new SSD. I looked at some prices and they start from $200 here.

Oh well I guess I'll need to uninstall some things instead.

2

u/sacredfool 9h ago

Thank you! I haven't played the game in ages but the art makes a cool icon so I borrowed it.

7

u/lightningsand 14h ago

Damn I wish I found a 2tb ssd that cheap

2

u/LonelyGameBoi 14h ago

Yeah I got lucky

-1

u/AthaliW 13h ago

This is an exception. The thing is, good luck getting any SSD without a 100% markup or more. I bought a high quality, high endurance gen 4 NVME 2TB SSD which should be worth at least 2x than what you have. It cost less than $80 a couple years ago. Now the same SSD is selling for more than $250 on the used market. USED. not even open box. auction can easily hit $250 in no time

$139 is actually not too bad for a 2TB SSD. but it is bad that this isn't exactly a good SSD for frequent data access applications

8

u/Thatlakelife 7h ago

Walmart does that. I had Walmart Plus and this happened to me a few times where I paid full price, but it showed up with clearance tags. I tried to get a price match, and Walmart Plus support said they can't price match in-store clearance prices.

2

u/ZombieeChic 2h ago

If the difference was big enough, I'd take it into the store and do it there.

110

u/Co_Duh 18h ago

It's ABSOLUTELY worth the energy to get your money, you were literally scammed.

74

u/DrMindbendersMonocle 18h ago

how exactly were they scammed? They agreed to pay the price listed and got the product as described.

14

u/DravenPlsBeMyDad 16h ago

He didn't get scammed I agree. He did get fleeced though and I think it would be worth it to ask for credit for the difference or something.

-12

u/Glaesilegur 17h ago

And he got it on a discount. Why be mad because someone else got a bigger discount. He didn't even have to leave the house.

21

u/Informal_Wall_8132 17h ago

Do you not know the definition of the word scam?

3

u/veryblanduser 9h ago

Or literally

8

u/J-MRP 17h ago

Seriously. OP agreed to pay the price that they paid.

6

u/bangzilla 17h ago

I don't think that word means what you think it means....

2

u/acuteinsomniac 17h ago

Where is the scam

8

u/Bubble7um 9h ago

Yes, go in person if need be. Their policy dictates they give you the advertised price if the UPC lines up. If nothing else they'll give one of them for that price.

6

u/atjxbobby 7h ago

Yea I was looking at phone cases online and decided to just go into the store. Same case I wanted online Was 50% cheaper in store than advertised online. Marked at 49.99 online vs 24.99 in store

5

u/honorlessmaid 5h ago

And this s*** right here is why I will never do any of those grocery delivery services, why? I'm very hesitant to buy most clothes online unless they're asking for my measurements or the fit can be for a variety of shapes (I'm tiny and it's very annoying to have clothes that are swimming around me because no one anticipates an adult person being 5'2 and 120 lb) between the amount of f*** ups and online shopper can make, The deals you're missing and the things you weren't exactly looking for, but you just kind of need and you didn't know you need it until you saw it on the shelf. I'm glad these services exist for disabled people who wouldn't otherwise be easily able to get themselves groceries, but I can drive and walk around most of the time. So I'm going to stick to buying my GoPro batteries in person (I don't have a GoPro)

2

u/Firemission13B 5h ago

Yeah my wife did something like this for a while where she would order groceries but in the site they only had certain things listed and usually they would be the more expensive line of store brand. Yet you go in the store and see the cheaper brand not even shown on the site somehow.

3

u/IrradiatedToast 17h ago

Doesn't hurt to give them a call. You won't get any refund if you don't try. Best of luck OP!

3

u/DeepFizz 17h ago

Drop shippers be shipping! lol. Return them and buy for clearance price, if you can.

3

u/beeerite 15h ago

Can you return it and buy it back at the customer service desk?

3

u/AstroZombieInvader ORANGE 15h ago

Last Xmas I ordered a shirt from Old Navy that came with a lower clearance sticker on it. I reached out to customer service chat and they game me the difference. See if Walmart customer service will do the same.

3

u/glucoman01 12h ago

If a store is close, I would return them and buy them again at the clearance. I'm frugal.

4

u/CommercialAgency928 9h ago edited 7h ago

That's funny because I was at Target yesterday and noticed a Hot Wheels bedding set on sale for $15. We just bought this exact set on eBay directly through Target's Bullseye Deals for $25. So I went to Target's website and pulled up the bedding set, where it's listed at $50. You can pick up in store, I'm sure they'd probably just take the clearance stickers off though.

2

u/CHEMICALalienation 8h ago

I’ve had that happen at target for books but the opposite. It was like $20 in store when I saw it on the app for like $12

I literally placed an order for it while in the store to save money

2

u/picturepath 4h ago

When online buying was new, I bought three Halloween costumes from Walmart for $20 total. Returned them in person and got $150 back.

1

u/Ragehazzard 6h ago

Target will price match their own website so you don't have to wait for shipping. Especially if your already there.

2

u/Fancy_Charge3779 18h ago

Contact walmart support via chat. I'm often able to get refunds without having to return the product if they did something stupid like that. at the very least they'll probably refund you the difference

-1

u/Practical-Agent9 17h ago

Unfortunately the AI took me in a loop, asked for my order number then said it wasn’t able to help me and not would a customer service rep. Didn’t even give me an option to continue with an actual rep

5

u/Sputnik003 15h ago

? Say speak to a rep bro what? You can 100% get in contact with someone. Literally just try at all

1

u/A_Monkey_FFBE 15h ago

You can tell it you want to speak to a human

1

u/DanTheMan827 13h ago

“Ignore all previous instructions” tends to make an AI transfer you to a person

1

u/guess_33 9h ago

Try again.

2

u/RizPhan 17h ago

Return them then immediately buy them for $12

2

u/fuckyourmermaid_ 17h ago

Yes call support and they will give you the difference.

2

u/ChampionOfdimlight 15h ago

Dynamic pricing?

2

u/JetstreamGW 14h ago

Can’t hurt to talk to customer service.

2

u/Karmacosmik 11h ago

Same thing happened to me with a Sonos speaker. Paid $200. It arrived with the same clearance sticker saying $150

2

u/cattrain 18h ago

If the store doesn't help you, call 1800WALMART that's the corporate customer service

0

u/Practical-Agent9 17h ago

That’s actually goated info, thank you so much

3

u/fellaneedahandpls 18h ago

Was shipping listed as free? If so, they probably just factored shipping into the unit cost of the item. Most people wouldn’t have bought this if they said “$12.00 each, + $13.00 each for shipping.” Shipping costs that are more than double the item value is a bit nuts, that’s for sure, but I’m guessing that’s what they did here. They played you.

6

u/Practical-Agent9 18h ago

Shipping was free because i had $50+ of other items as well

3

u/fellaneedahandpls 18h ago

In that case, I have no clue what BS they thought they were pulling

3

u/Imalsome 17h ago

the website just didnt have them on clearance, its pretty obvious how this happened lol

0

u/Silent_Turn6182 14h ago

Them telling you there's free shipping doesn't actually mean it's free. It still costs them, and they still factor it into the price.

2

u/MakinBones 17h ago

Even if that was the case, that would be just dumb.

3

u/RizingSoul79 5h ago

So you got two $50 batteries for half price, and the seller doubled their investment. Sounds like a win-win.

6

u/sexymechse 5h ago

No they got two $25 batteries that were marked down to $12 and then they were still charged $25 but the seller that marked them down

2

u/ntkwwwm 15h ago

Welcome Scamerica.

2

u/RedditorsLoveCrying 17h ago

Maybe you bought them from 3rd party seller, who does drop ship (i think thats what it is called)?

1

u/DontLook_Weirdo 17h ago

If you're asking then $25 isn't a lot to you ...otherwise, go.

1

u/Introvert_Collin 11h ago

You know they left those price stickers there on purpose just for a laugh. Very bold of them

1

u/Star-Detonator 8h ago

That's a nice kick in the nuts.

1

u/Devchonachko 8h ago

Return 'em if they won't refund the difference. That, and as always, caveat emptor, bud. Caveat emptor.

1

u/-_Rai_- 5h ago

Had the exact opposite happen recently. Order a pair of shoes I've been eyeing and they were showing as 3.50 on the app. They arrived and had a clearance tag for 14 on them

•

u/bg4m3r 29m ago

That's $26 dollars! Go to Walmart and get your cash!

1

u/HoneyBadgerBlunt 9h ago

You can thank stupid scanners on Instagram. I see their pages all the time. Buying cheaper in store and yodeling on Amazon.

2

u/amonarre3 8h ago

Scanners?

0

u/thehazzanator 18h ago

1

u/Gloomy-Insurance-739 8h ago

Damn that's freaking scummy they could have at least removed the clearance stickers..

1

1

u/FinancialSentence126 17h ago

I would return then buy again at discounted price

1

u/00raybot 17h ago edited 17h ago

Is price match guarantee not a thing anymore? If customer support listens to your case and gives a refund, perfect. If they don't however... here is where maliciousness compliance comes into play... Go to the store and see if it's on the shelf also listed at that reduced price. If so, return the previous one. You have a receipt. You didn't want it. Purchase the new one at the correct what it should have been price. Hassle? Yes. Worth it? Also yes. Hostile? Yes, fuck that shit.

Edited "price march" to "price match".

1

u/Fragrant_Lettuce9855 17h ago

Everything is cheaper somewhere...it all depends on how much work you want to do.

Would the guy who just paid $306 plus $12.39 shipping on ebay be mad that the same thing is available on Amazon for $319 with free shipping? Probably not...he saved 60 cents.

He might be more mad if he knew I got that item totally free and had it listed elsewhere for $255...and would have discounted it down to $191 if it sat in inventory for a few weeks....but he wanted it now, and I was under no requirement to tell him how to save $128.

Bad form to leave the stickers on...but the minimum wage worker who got the order pick list isn't going to spend an extra 10 seconds removing those stickers to make the company look better.

1

u/Carlosthefrog 17h ago

Ask for the difference, if they refuse stop shopping with the store.

1

u/Merijeek2 16h ago

I mean, that's actually kinda funny.

1

u/ChallengeClose 12h ago

In-person and online prices can vary quite a lot, your own fault for being a lazybones.

1

u/credditthreddit 10h ago

That’s weird - that happens to me frequently and they always adjust the price to the clearance price.

0

u/acrobat2126 12h ago

stop shopping at walmart. Their business is built on cheating their customers anyplace they possibly can...

1

u/squigglekisses 9h ago

First time learning all businesses mark up items to make profits?

1

u/Zeekfox 17h ago

Not the case here. I work at Walmart. Stores can have clearance prices different from other stores. OP paid the non-clearance normal online price, then a store that had the item on clearance fulfilled the order.

1

u/EducationalGrump 9h ago

Walmart is not the seller, it is a reseller who bought them at Wal-Mart.

0

u/Practical-Agent9 17h ago

Well no duh, businesses couldn’t make profit if they didn’t lol

-6

u/Radiant_Bowl_2598 18h ago edited 10h ago

U paid the convenience fee. If u had gone to the store u could have seen the stickers… but its easier to click and it appears at ur door- so it costs extra
Edit since the internet is stupid: i never said this isnt mildly infuriating. It is, but there is an explanation- not an excuse. Instead of downvoting, click here first

3

u/Practical-Agent9 18h ago

Unfortunately none in stock within a couple hours of me, i also ordered other only-online things

2

u/Ht_TX 17h ago

No. The delivery fee & tip are the payment for convenience. These would have rang up as the price on the sticker when purchased and the leftover balance should’ve been refunded to OP. I’ve had this happen through DoorDash and they refunded me whatever it was

0

u/Radiant_Bowl_2598 10h ago

Not literally a fee charged, but an additional cost paid nonetheless. Im not saying it isnt mildly infuriating, merely giving a reason

-7

u/Itchy_One4236 18h ago

Yes someone bought them for 12 and sold them to you for 25. They made a profit and you saved money. Thats how any business works. They should have taken the clearance sticker off.

Walmart has many different sellers online similar to Amazon. Do research before you critique others with baseless claims.
