Is it in yet Teslas roadsters reservation agreement

Post this to the Tesla sub and theyâll tell you how daddy Elon is saving the human race and tell you how dumb redditors are for listening to the propaganda making Elon and Tesla look bad

Honestly, at this point anyone who gives Elon their money deserves whatever they get, or more aptly don't get. People who pre ordered the first roadster or whatever it was called are still waiting and surely people can't have forgotten just how much they promised about the cyber truck and how little they actually delivered.
If anyone thinks they're actually going to deliver on a "flying" sports car, they're either an idiot or insane.

Itâs crazy that they include this and even more that people are filling to fork all that money for a down payment, a car that they might not even get or even be close to what it looks like. Reminds me of the ones who order the CT that was supposed to be a lower price and never received it lol.

IIRC there's some kind of tax advantage to holding on to deposits indefinitely, but I can't recall specifics.

u/Thunder_Will 14h ago
Until the company has shipped the product and fulfilled their part of the contract, it's not counted as revenue and therefore not taxable.
It's literally free financing for the company

u/WaffleHouseGladiator 14h ago
I think that's what companies do with unspent gift card balances.
6
u/Thunder_Will 14h ago
Exactly, and gift card balance holders are incredibly low on the priority list of creditors when a company goes bust

I recall where I heard about this scheme. Chubby Electron Dude has a video about it.

On top of tax advantage, it's also an interest free loan. That $50k from 2017 roadster would've been worth $150k with S&P 500 index funds, and $850k if you invested in Tesla stock instead.

Star citizen but for cars.

He calls it SpaceX
(I'm mostly kidding tho, there's a lot of smart people at SpaceX doing cool stuff)
1
u/twelfthfantasy 7h ago
Yeah, SpaceX works most of the time because he's not really directly involved with it

Infuriating to whom, Elon fannies? This was pretty much expected from the 2017 Roadster, the Mars base, the full self driving promises...

u/Nice_Marmot_54 9h ago
I really donât see the problem here. Thatâs how every pre-order ever has worked and, if youâve paid even 2 seconds of attention to Tesla over the last decade+, them promising vaporware so that morons will give them cash for fake products is kind of their whole deal.

u/AhhhSkrrrtSkrrrt 8h ago
Have they ever not delivered on a preorder?
8
u/Nice_Marmot_54 8h ago
Well, itâs been 9 years since they started taking pre-orders for the Roadster, so arguably they havenât deliver that. Guess it depends on whether you define them still saying theyâre totally gonna deliver it a decade later as a failure to deliver or the worldâs slowest pre-order.
Full Self Driving still has yet to be delivered in any form other than name (FSD is neither âfullâ nor entirely âselfâ driving), and all of the people who paid $10K to get it on the promise that it would work on older hardware will never get it since Tesla finally admitted that the older hardware doesnât have the compute power necessary for level 3 self driving.
I could keep going on about Teslaâs awful track record of outlandish over-promising and underdelivering, but I wonât

Is it a nonrefundable deposit? And how much?
1
u/Flipslips 12h ago
Itâs refundable. Deposit is different per trim. 50k deposit base, 250k deposit thrust, 500k deposit rocket

Even if you got it, where would you fly it for the 30 seconds it can fly? You aren't going to be helicoptering in to work.

u/Cepheus7 22m ago
Its the same as owning any other car that can do 250mph+. You will never ever do that speed.
Its not about actually doing it. Its about owning a car that can.(Notwithstanding that the rocket version of this car will never see a public street)

u/dnuohxof-2 14h ago
Well, I mean, this is for stupid people. Only stupid people would preorder a toy car from musk.
2
u/funny_username42 12h ago
With that said, I think this would probably be written in every car manufacturer's concept car preorder contract, even if the car is not as unhinged as this new Roadster.

I would wait to see how much of what was shown actually makes the final delivery vehicle before giving him any money.
But thatâs me and I think anyone throwing $250m into the ether for some future delivery at an indeterminate period of time lives in a tax bracket so different than my own I canât really get their mindset. And Iâm absolutely in the upper range of wealth.

Musk doing Musk things. Such a fraud. But I have zero sympathy for the people who fall for this. If they haven't learned by now đ¤ˇđťââď¸

Those things have one purpose⌠to be used on Mars if Elonâs plans ever come to fruition.
Spaceship style propulsion (basic explanation, I know) on a planet with 38% of Earthâs gravity makes a lot of sense. Letting the average modern human use one on earth is stupid as shit.

u/Dino_Spaceman 8h ago
Itâs not a mars car. You would build something with more utility and ground clearance for that.
This is a James Bond hyper car and thatâs it.

u/Ambitious_Hand_2861 13h ago
You know what would be more useful that puff piece? Helicopter blades. That car will never work and that's IF it ever gets built, which it won't.

Yeah the people who pre-ordered their roadsters 9 years ago are also still waiting. đ
