No. The opposite. Dark and stagnant air produce mold. We have a breathable basket on the counter. Time is the other factor but the kids devour bread like Tasmanian Devils.
Edit: BTW what I'm stating is the facts but keeping your bread in the cabinet is okay! Mold doesn't grow that fast especially if you get a typical loaf from the store. Those preservatives and sugar and salt also fight mold. Personally I get nicer bread and cut it up and freeze it which is also not optimal but I hate the ticking clock when it's a bread only I eat.
This is simply not true. Exposure to higher temperatures, as can occur from sunlight shining on your packaged bread, can accelerate fungal and bacterial growth, but bread molds are fungi and do not grow faster in when exposed to light, as plants do. In fact, natural light generally inhibits mold growth to some extent, but mostly on surfaces and limited by humidity, other factors.
Mine just goes in the fridge. Dark and cold will stop most growth, and it shouldn't take me months to eat a loaf of bread, so it never gets a chance to get moldy

When exposed to light, bread develops mold quicker. Keeping it in a dark and dry place preserves it longest
