Too mild for school My wife bought a drying rack to hang my son's football jersey, since it can't go in the dryer. Instead of assembling the rack she hung the jersey on the unopened box.

For sure. That's how I immediately saw it, too. I think it was just left there as a reminder.
"Hey, here's the jersey we were going to hang up. I'm just going to leave it on the new rack we bought for this one single purpose, 'cause you're the one who always puts stuff together. You've got it from here... I assume?"
I think OP just either didn't want to put it together, or found it funny somehow and thought it fit the sub. I don't personally think it fits, because it's not mildly infuriating. It's actually just a nice, passive reminder from a partner, subconsciously saying "Hey, these two things go together, gonna' leave it here since the thing's ready to be put together and I don't want the jersey to somehow disappear."
I don't see anything mildly infuriating about this, personally. It's just an example of organized thinking.

You should not have to be explicitly told to help your significant other with something. You're supposed to offer help, because you care about them and want to do nice things for them. "Just tell me" means you aren't thinking about them in that compassionate way.
EDIT: damm yall don't just try to do nice and thoughtful things for your partner without being asked, just for the sake of being nice and thoughtful? That's very sad.

→ More replies (4)76
u/famous__shoes 5h ago
There's a lot of nuance missing here. On the one hand, of course people should communicate their needs. On the other hand, someone who just sits around and never does anything or helps in any way and just waits to be told to do something is taking on none of the mental load. "Sure I'll do it if you ask me to' is basically making yourself an employee and your partner a manager, which is more responsibility.

28
u/aggressive_napkin_ 6h ago
the one one we couldn't (and it made sense) was one of my daughter's cheerleading ones - because it was covered in those sequins or whatever they're called. a freaking football jersey is getting abused way more on the field than it is in the dryer.
→ More replies (2)5
u/SuppaBunE 2h ago
It could probably be the vinyl letters, usually low quality ones once in the dyer the heat + tumbling can remove them
3
u/yung_dogie 1h ago
I've had jerseys' vinyl letters burn or rip before in the dryer when I was a kid (never figured if it was my machine or user error), so it definitely can happen. Fortunately the school never actually got on my case for it (the school owned the jerseys) and I just played in it anyways, but my coach yelled at me lmao

u/BedBubbly317 6h ago
Over time the colors will fade on the numbers if you put in the dryer. Doing it a few times is no issue, but doing it week after week does stress the material and wash the color out eventually
13
u/passionfruit2378 6h ago
I mean, I would never put my authentic jerseys in the dryer, ever. Cold water, hand wash inside out or on delicate, hang up. Risk damaging them, peeling, creases in emblems, etc in the dryer. Some people donât care because itâs a jersey youâre going to get mud and dirt on anyway. But if you want to keep it looking good and lasting longer itâs better to take proper care of it. Especially if you want to keep it as a keepsake.
→ More replies (4)7
u/aggressive_napkin_ 6h ago
if it's authentic in the sense it's a real, wearable jersey for games, it will stand up to that - they're specifically made to take abuse. If it's authentic that you paid a premium for a replica and they cheap out of the actual specifications... well.. i'm sure they do... play it safe!

As the wife who buys lots of things for around the house, I dont want my husband to go around putting them together for me. I want to do it, its part of the fun. Opening it, putting it together, checking out how it works, setting it up and seeing how it affects the space, etc.
Id also be super annoyed if my husband bought me something, after I told him I didnt want it, and then expected me to assemble it.

ITT: Every man/husband is obviously an incompetent lazy troglodyte who is incapable of looking after anything including themselves and would literally die within 5 seconds if not for their selfless saint of a wife.
Every woman/wife is the backbone of everything, shoulders all responsibility/difficulty in life, and it is a revocable privilege that her husband gets to incidentally breathe in her exhaled CO2.
There is no possible middle-ground or straying from this universal, inalienable dynamic, obviously.
