Your comments do have \*. Maybe whatever client you're using is trying to be helpful and thinks you want literal asterisks instead of italics, so puts in the escape sequence.
Maybe itâs something happening with the mobile version Iâll cross check on desktop later to see if it works differently for me there. But thanks đđž
I'm sure if you have your heart set on it, you can go volunteer to serve in a few different countries that are currently at war and have your wish of being blown up granted.
It's not that at all. It's testing protection, safety systems, effects of weapons. Like, yeah, we know it goes boom, but is it doing more of this than that, etc? Is it more shrapnel than blast? Is it properly effective? Does this armor adequately protect this body part? Etc.
As a former Combat Engineer, I GREATLY appreciate all of the families that, intentional or not, helped with the studies that led to better protections agianst IEDs and other explosive devices.
It was thanks to their sacrifice that I dont have soup for brains.
You do realize that theyâre not testing the technology right? Theyâre training people to use the technology and also how to try and piece someone back together after something like that.
Unfortunately silicone test dummies donât really translate to combat readiness for the medical troopsâŚ.
I remember hearing that either in ww2 or Vietnam, right before the US joined the war they would test their medics by chopping a leg off a live pig, and if they couldn't save it, they were kicked out.
Oh, I didnât say anything about the legsâŚ. The story I heard is that theyâre cut up by shrapnel from the explosives so I wouldnât really think theyâre edible at that point
I mean, I donât give a shit. If I was dead you could bang me all you want. I mean, who cares? A dead body is like a piece of trash. I mean, shove as much shit in there as you want. Fill me up with cream, make a stew out of my ass. Whatâs the big deal? Bang me, eat me, grind me up into little pieces, throw me in the river. Who gives a shit? Youâre dead, youâre dead!
I feel that way too about wolves and ravens having a free snack but it's a little more nefarious with a military and they're trying to maximize death and carnage with a scientific process.
Yeah, but we donât want any old science, we want to tick the box that guarantees being blown up. Or, to be used solely for testing rocket powered submarine ejector seats, and nothing else.
Right? Put my body in something like an experimental helicopter ejection seat or a hypercar high speed test rig, just to see exactly what sort of damage it'd do.
Sign up to be used as a test case for a drop test, where the results are âwe can categorically say that yes, being pushed out of a plane and free falling from 36,000 feet, into shark-infested waters, does not leave the human body in the best of shape, or quite frankly in any shape whatsoever.â
Honestly im planning on donating my body to science. (Good luck figuring this one out science) my only request would be that im not blown up and cremated when theynl are done. That said if they decide to anyways? Im not gunna care lol
Are you suffering from the pressure to leave an Eternal Legacy before you die?
Don't worry! Here is a Way to leave an Eternal Legacy even After your Passing!
DONATE YOUR BODY!
Your body could be used in Traffic Safety Tests to Protect the Happiness of countless Families in the future,
Be imprinted on film to be preserved forever as a prop for a Killer Blockbuster Movie,
Or delivered to the military to serve as the foundation for designing killer weapons to Defend the homeland, thereby Saving the Lives of Countless Citizens!
You cannot choosehow your body will be usedafter it has been transferred, andfull ownership rights to the bodyare deemed to have been transferred from the bereaved family. Requesting information regarding how the body was used will be considered asa separate serviceand may result inadditional chargesorrefusal. Any by-products remaining after the body has been used will be consideredbiological hazardous waste, anddisposal fees may be chargedto the bereaved family.Failure to complyafter the transferred may results inlegal disputes.
Seriously. Thatâs the best use of this piece of junk meat suit I currently reside in. When Iâm done with it, Iâd happily sign it off to be used in this manner.
That's why transparency is important. I stand for your right to choose postmortem boom boom but I'd hate that. Id love to be a cadaver in a university body farm tho. Let me just lay there and give back to the earth. it's a shame there has to be screwy contracts and deception when you're right, there would be volunteers. but how dare we get a say in which of us goes boom and which of us just rots in the woods.Â
Iâve worked on defense projects that use cadavers. This isnât done for fun, itâs for research. Our project looked at IED effects on the body in different scenarios. The point was to create tech that would help protect our soldiers more than we currently can. After impact testing (with an insane amount of instruments wired in to measure forces), the body is dissected by anatomy and biomechanical experts to examine bone breaks and tissue damage. We treat cadavers with nothing but respect. Our institution holds an annual memorial service to show respect and gratitude for the cadavers (the most incredible teachers) and express gratitude and sympathy to their loved ones.
(This is not commentary on or justification for the lead story. I just wanted to provide context for what a military project with cadavers typically looks like).
I would absolutely offer my body to be blown up. I was just telling my kid this the other day. Ha ha. What the fuck do I care at that point. Just don't hook my brain up to a computer, once I'm done I'm done.
I worked on a project that required cadavars for under-body blast injuries (UBBI) research. It was illuminating. At the end of the testing, the remains would be cremated and the military did a service to honor the donor before returning the ashes to the family.
Did those donors or their loved ones have a specific idea that their torso/whole body/cephalus and spine/etc. would be loaded into a rig that accelerated at high speeds to mimic the impact of an IED in order to measure, say, damage to the spine or brain? I doubt it. It's just awfully niche and specific. I don't think the average person is aware that kind of testing happens/ed in order to consent to it up-front.
FTR: That research was/is being used to better understand that long-term affects on war-fighters who seemingly "walk away" from those blasts only to have symptoms years later that may (or may not) be the result of what they survived.
That said: this guy checked "no" for military testing and it sounds like his legal win was strongly merited.
I agree. Tons of people would go for this. I'm not upset at them using bodies if they need to but also confused because 1. Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to use a dummy or a dead pig pig or something? And 2. They shouldn't be allowed to falsely advertise this. My family donated my uncle's body and my tried to donate my grandparents because that was their wish but they were rejected.
I want to be set on fire and hurled by trebuchet off a sea side cliff. Preferably while dead, but whatever. I feel like paying $10k to be a test dummy for a rocket sled would be on par and much more legal.
My mom recently passed and donated her body to the Cleveland Clinic- I know for sure they use it as deemed necessary medical/research wise but I wanted to joke with her a bit. Before she signed up for it, I sent her the story about this and asked her if sheâd be upset if she was actually used to test weapons- she said, âwhy the hell would I care? Iâll already be dead.â
I understand why people would be upset finding this out, but I think my momâs outlook on it is pretty valid.
Seems like a good a way as any to rejoin the ether. And if my family will get paid instead of forking out thousands to confer me to the earth to rot, Iâm all for it.
At the end of the day though, my death is about them not me. If they donât want me blitzed to fairy dust and instead want the ceremony of a burial, then Iâm all for that too.

I feel like you could advertise needing bodies to be exploded and get volunteers. I'd consider it.
