As someone who worked behind a butcher's counter, I can assure you that you are one of few with that opinion (Mett was usually our top seller. Everyday. Any time of year).
Why does any food at all look appetizing? Any food you think looks good, is because your life experience has told you it will probably taste good. I've only had mett once, but I've had a lot of steak tartare, which is raw beef and looks pretty similar, and I think steak tartare looks delicious.

No. This is objectively untrue. People can like the taste of something and still find the look of it unappetizing and contrarily, something that someone doesn't like can still look appetizing.
I know a bunch of people who've been eating it on a daily or weekly basis for decades and none of them ever got those. Not saying it's not an issue but it can't be that badđ€·đ»ââïž I also had a phase where I was eating Mettwurst daily for over half a year and never had issues.
Mett is a regional German specialty, particularly associated with Westphalia and other parts of northwestern Germany, as well as the broader region around Berlin and parts of central Germany.
Im an ethnic chinese in germany and my mom is completeley racist against anything uncooked, so grwoing up like this i tend to find raw stuff like this rather disgusting too, but after trying it i have to say its pretty good. Its like sushi where its raw, but it doesnt feel very raw and i can enjoy it, although i still wouldnt scarf stuff like this down unlike certain cooked foods.
I feel like below medium steak tastes much more raw than Mett. Its got this bloody taste to it when the juices are still red.
Not BS. Actual stastics show Mett and specifically Hackepeter are some of the most sold items at any supermarket meat counter in the whole country.
There is even an inofficial celebration day, âMettwochâ, on which everyone brings Mett to the office. To boost motivation for the second half of week lol.
Also my experience from living in half the German states confirms this. Mett is everywhere, whether you like it or not.
And what do statistics have to do with calling us not german for not eating it ? People who don't eat that stuff are everywhere. You can find them in every village or city. They exist whether you like it or not.
In this regard you are not average then. While far from everyone loves it and absolutely speaking many will dislike it I would wager a guess that around 3/4 of germans have at least tried it.
What a ridiculous assessment. Raw minced meat being a traditional German dish doesnât mean itâs popular or even widespread in Germany at all. I live in the south and Iâm pretty sure that next to nobody in my friends group ever considered trying this stuff.
What the fuck? What has that to do with my nationality?!! Iâm just saying he writes that German people that are eating meat like row Mett and thatâs not right. I donât know a single German person from my friends that is liking this.
Not true. I'm neither of that, i just don't eat raw shit, tasted like garbage when i tried once. Fry it, bake it, cook it, do whatever, just don't try to give it to me raw. It's disgusting
on of my in laws is muslim...He had a Mettigel for his marriage party and i dont know any man happier to see mett...tbf i dont think he takes his muslim part to seriously
Well don't you like to speak about topics you don't know that much about. Due to the regulations on the production, sale etc. It is one of the safest foods in circulation. Never had I or anyone I know ever had a problem due to Mett as opposed to a lot of other foods (seafood, döner, salad etc.)
Fun fact: if the bread rolls are still warm, they will refuse to sel it to you. You can only buy the Mett and roll separately then.
Iâve been eating Mett my whole life. Not all the time but regularly. Iâve never ever had a poisoning, nor I know one myself or ever had heard of someone whoâve had that. Of course it can happen, like everything thatâs Murphyâs law. But I think there are several dishes that contain raw meat/fish and are less harmful than a lot of the processed food that we have around us, at least in terms of a broader view
The production is highly regulated and monitored because we are well aware of the risks. It's sold the day it's produced and every time you get told to eat it on the same day
If you take the risk and don't eat it the same day - well, that's on you
Theoretically yes but that's why there are very strict regulations.
It's essentially the same as with (raw fish) sushi, which can also end badly if not done correctly, but with the right guidelines in place, you don't have to worry.
The production of Mett (raw pork) is highly regulated and monitored in Germany.
The chance is 1 per 1 million per year to get food poisoning from Mett. In other words: It's more likely to get shot in a US school (1,1-1,8 per 1 million per year)
And the number 1 per 1 million includes idiots not eating the Mett on the same day. (It's highly recommended to keep the risk down and you get told every time you buy it)
I imagine they are talking about pork specifically, but even in that case I wouldnt bet on us having the "cleanest" pork.
Among the cleanest? Probably. But probably also not the cleanest.
No doubt due to its high consumption of pork product theres more focus there but itâs doubtful the same attention to detail provided in all food production industries.

The only people who don't eat Mett in Germany are vegetarian, vegan or Muslims.
