Literally infinity ward is the golden child for some reason they don’t get worked to death, but I mean at least they did something right
18
u/boiLemonade 2d ago
they did create call of duty..

u/FunRope6502 2d ago
I mean yeah but after what they did with sbmm and all the horrible decisions post 2019 yikes they still just don’t face consequences instead treyarch and SH do

u/Basic-Ingenuity2714 1d ago
The game that introduced the matchmaking system was extremely popular the entire year and saw hardly any player drop off

Mmmmh I wonder if there was a global pandemic that caused many people to not be able to leave the house
1
u/Due_Transition_8339 1d ago
Oh, and what about when MW2019 launched and there wasn't a global pandemic and it instantly became the best selling CoD at the time? What about then?

They made warzone which is so far an infinite money printer for activision
1
u/ExoHazzy 2d ago
any of the dev teams could’ve made warzone. br + cod is not some innovative idea lol. BRs were all the rave back then and covid juiced numbers.

u/AltGunAccount 2d ago
Except that Treyarch had a shot with Blackout and it wasn’t anywhere near as popular as Warzone.
2
u/Cute-Acanthaceae-193 2d ago
Because blackout was also not free to play and you were required to have black ops 4.
Warzone was literally made to be a PUBG dupe, with extra things, bringing your loadout after getting credits, AND it was free2play.
So again, they setup infinity wars for success, if they have them the green light to do war zone as F2P in mine, while treyarch was forced to make theirs not, and they also couldn’t do campaign since they were forced to shift resource into blackout instead.

u/Rayuzx 2d ago
Honestly, I think Warzone became more popular due to it being a better translation of the CoD formula (and this is from a person who enjoyed Blackout more):
Loadout creates was a perfect way to bring in the custom class system.
WZ's simplified health an inventory system brings the gameplay more in line with what are familiar with Multi-player.
Having consumable items be killstreaks hepls WZ stand out more and give it more of that "CoD-flavor"
The Gulag and an actual revive system creates less downtime as not only is be given a second chance more engaging that getting sent back to the lobby, but also it helps maintain a game where gunfights are much more common due to lobbies being cleared out at a slower pace.
The combine progression system not only brings in a more meaningful treadmill of constantly getting attachments for guns, but also means that people who play both MP and WZ needs to keep up with two metas.

u/Cute-Acanthaceae-193 2d ago
Again, you didn’t address the simple thing, one is free to play, the other isn’t.
Warzone literally capture the feeling of pubg which was an insane popular game that wasn’t treated well, while blackout was a paid battle royale which was doomed to fail.
Any BR needs F2P, especially after Fortnite came out, and then even pubg did it because it needed to.
So it was a simple thing of being F2P

Even then, I think BOCW was a better campaign than MWII, and they had to deal with COVID and mismanagement after Activision and SHG weren't getting along. Can't really blame SHG for their campaigns in their past two releases either, because Activision has been treating them like shit since WW2.

Black Ops 1 and 2 knocked me on my ass the first time playing them but then Treyarch thought they could do it again. And again. And again.
I don't even think Black Ops 6 is all that special as a campaign, especially towards the end. It was just better than what game beforehand.
Meanwhile the majority of the Modern Warfare campaign missions are core memories to me, including this one game's.

Some of the Black Ops campaigns are bangers…

And IW multiplayer was banger 15 years ago. Now 3arc campaigns suck but their MP is good and IW campaigns are good but their MP sucks.

I haven’t played a modern cod campaign since MWII but I don’t get why treyarch and sledgehammer do such strange things for their campaigns. I remember hearing you fight a giant monster or something in one of the recent black ops campaigns. And MWIII’s main campaign gimmick was basically Warzone. Infinity Ward just seems to understand what to do when it comes to campaign.
10
u/AmericanWitness 2d ago
Infinity Ward gets the time and resources to do so, is the main difference.
That said BO6 wasn’t too shabby, but a step below CW and definitely a compromise in having open sections.2
u/LLPlanetary 2d ago
It definitely is by in large time and resources. MWIII and BO7 were both compromised by their very short development times which meant they had to cut a lot of corners and that resulted in the campaigns we got. Vanguard similarly was developed only a year after Cold War, the project Sledgehammer was originally supposed to make alongside Raven before they were taken off the project after creative differences. In pretty much every case of a bad CoD campaign, the dev studios were given very short development time to make one.

u/InventorOfCorn 2d ago
by "giant monster" i'm gonna assume you mean the harper boss fight in BO7 which is... something...
its campaign was not very good as you may be able to deduce from that
2
u/PowerPamaja 2d ago
Yeah, idk what’s going on there but it looks so silly. I’ve been following the mw storyline since the old games and I’ve been invested all the way through the rebooted story. But I don’t care about the BO story past bo1 and bo2.

Black ops 6 and Cold War were very good too, but this campaign was 10/10 best shit I ever played

Iw for campaign SHG for Mp and treyarch for zombies. Perfect cod game for me
1
u/Niksobil 2d ago
Sledgehammer are great with campaigns, just MW3 and Vanguard was made with extreme deadlines
1
u/swaggboi909 1d ago
Mw3 campaign was infinity ward sledgehammer only did multiplayer Treyarch did zombies
1
u/Niksobil 1d ago edited 1d ago
There is no much work on multiplayer for MWIII, Infinity Ward just tried to guide them in terms of story. I even checked directors, one from Sledgehammer, one from Treyarch, one is new. None from IW

It should be illegal for any of the other studios to touch campaign from now on.
IW should be the main for campaign/mp.
Treyarch always do zombies, maybe even as a standalone.
SHG help IW with man power and with DMZ (if they keep it going).
Skip a year if needed to do this reset, and COD will be back.

u/StupidKameena 2d ago
I genuinely hate it when people assign studios to modes because you guys clearly don't understand how these games are made at all and the structure behind the dev teams

Yall are done with the campaign already? 😂 Crazy how the IW fanbase will dickride a game for a campaign that takes 1.5 business days to complete
2
u/collegetriscuit 2d ago
I finished it yesterday, it took me about 12 hours to finish, which feels fair for a COD campaign. Some games overstay their welcome tbh.
1
u/Bayley78 2d ago
The gameplay is too repetitive to justify a 60 hour game lol. 12 hours of intense cutscenes and action with meaningful characters is good enough for me. The rest of the fun comes from the mp game modes.

u/zerosuneuphoria 2d ago
why can they not carry this tone through MP? Why are we always greeted with the same shit? Why are studios so afraid to make a gritty/violent MP?
1
u/chumbucket77 2d ago
Im actually asking. What do you mean? Its a game where youre shooting each other with guns. Whats not gritty or violent? Theres no story in multiplayer which is what everyones talking about here. If youre referring to how they turned cod into fortnite with glow in the dark guns and people dressed up as gandalf in a celtics jersey instead of actual military skins then I totally agree
-2
u/TimeZucchini8562 2d ago
IW did the campaign for MWIII btw
8
u/varietyviaduct 2d ago
No they didn’t, that’s just outright false lol. It was Sledgehammer, and IW were pissed about it

Sledgehammer made it and they took it and learned from their mistakes. There's even elements from that campaign in this one.

Dudes will say this knowing damn well the downfall of campaigns started with IW, they are the ones that started integrating Warzone mechanics in MwII and literally have kept doing that in Mw4 currently
-5
u/fearless-potato-man 2d ago
"Best I can do is «somehow, Graves returned»"- Sledghammer
"Best I can do is mind control" - Treyarch
9
u/SpaceBeaverDam 2d ago
Graves' silly not dying happened in MW2's post-game Warzone story cutscenes, so that's IW's fault.
1
u/Various-Pen-7709 2d ago
I mean, Is it really so silly that the guy we never see get in the tank survives it being destroyed? Especially when our Special Forces operators don’t even ID a body?
Also if we’re being 100, Graves is one of the best characters to come out of the modern games, so more of him was absolutely welcome
2
u/SpaceBeaverDam 2d ago
I just found the bait and switch a bit jarring and cheap, which is why I use the word "silly" instead of something more serious or critical. But you're right, and that's super fair. Graves is fantastic.
And it took me a second, but I thought I recognized your profile picture from somewhere. Caesar is pretty great too. Just gotta lose a 50/50 with that new(ish) banner selection so she actually drops for me.
-1
u/fearless-potato-man 2d ago
So it was Raven's fault then, as they were in charge of WZ seasons.
Neither IW or Sledgehammer.
4
u/SpaceBeaverDam 2d ago
Could be! I guess it depends on when the narrative reins were handed over. I'd have a hard time believing that IW would have no say in that even if they weren't explicitly developing seasonal content (especially given that the story content was just a handful of cutscenes).
But the reality is that we have no idea exactly how the interstudio cooperation works, so the only truly safe bet is blaming Activision.

u/AHappyRaccoon 2d ago
Okay, what about Multiplayer? MW has failed to deliver anything fun for the last two games they made.
-2
u/varietyviaduct 2d ago
Nah, MWII was a franchise best when you’re not listening to crack kids crying when they get killed sprinting into a room without checking corners
-1
u/Wooden_Zone_4203 2d ago
BO7 was trying to push into Resident Evil territory... I commend them trying it.
MW4 I don't even know if it's story continues from original MW or the updated one.
I am skeptical of CoD reviews because of all the CoD simps out there that buy and enjoy slop.
Top it off with annualized releases... Why do that to yourself.

u/Rady151 2d ago
To be fair IW had 4 years of development, SHG only had 18 months with MW3.
