Anyone who took the basic MSF having never touched a motorcycle before: tell me how many times you fell?

Today was my first day ever on a bike, in front of a group of people who all but one had lots of experience, it was the most fun nightmare I've ever had and I am SO BAD AT IT but I love it.

I fell ten times. Or, the BIKE fell ten times, I only went down with it once. Can y'all please tell me your own beginner horror stories and make me feel better before I head back in tomorrow morning? šŸ˜‚

(The instructors are so kind and thankfully have incredible senses of humor, one pulled me aside after they dismissed us and I thought he was going to tell me not to come back tomorrow, but he wanted to let me know I'm doing a lot better than I think I am and just need to not get in my head so much. I hope he's right)

Edit to add: it's not a balance issue, never fell while I was moving, only coming to a stop. I didn't get the hang of easing on the front brake/squaring my handlebars at first. Once they figured out that's what I was doing wrong they had me practice just that several times and I never fell again.

Just fueling up at the shell gas station near my house, and this really nice lady came upto me and gave me a bell. I feel so awful that I didn’t express my gratitude better. I’m incredibly awkward in most social situations. It was really so touching and made my year. If you see this. Thank you so much for that kind gesture I’ll cherish it for a long time. And I will always remember to ride safe ā¤ļø

I suffered a rare trauma during my accident, no professionals have seen before

Three months ago, I (21F) was involved in a serious motorcycle accident that completely changed my life overnight. I was the one riding on my MT-07

I suffered multiple injuries, including a ruptured spleen that required emergency surgery, several fractures, and a severe injury to my gluteal muscles.

For months, I knew something was wrong with my hip and buttock. There was swelling, fluid, and a visible deformity like a part of my hip is MISSING. I kept going to doctors, getting examined, waiting, and hoping someone would finally give me a clear answer. I was repeatedly left waiting while time passed.

Now, three months later, I’ve been told that I have a muscle tear of my gluteus maximus muscle, which has healed in a displaced position. It has left a visible indentation and asymmetry, and it is contributing to my difficulty walking/imbalance. Surgery might be an option, but I’ve been warned that because so much time has passed, the chances of a successful repair may be lower.

I cannot describe how devastating it is to be 20 years old and have to wonder whether my body will ever feel like my own again. I’m scared of living with a permanent imbalance, struggling to walk normally, and having to accept a physical change that might have been addressed differently if it had been recognized earlier.

I know doctors are human, and I know medicine isn’t perfect. But it’s incredibly frustrating to keep thinking about all the appointments, all the waiting, and all the times I trusted that things would work themselves out, only to find myself here. I can’t help wondering what might have happened if someone had taken my concerns more seriously sooner.
I don’t want pity. I want my life back. I want to be able to walk without worrying, look at myself without feeling devastated, and stop having to make decisions about my future around injuries I never asked for.

I just needed to get this off my chest. I’m exhausted, I’m scared, and I’m angry that while everyone else gets to move on with their lives, I’m still trying to figure out whether I’ll ever get mine back.

Also allow me to kindly ask to wear your helmets ā¤ļø I would not be here right now writing this post if it wasn’t for my trusty helmet ā¤ļø Ride safe āœŒļø

Super disappointed I have a pair of Alpinestar shoes but their gloves absolutely suck. Thumb blew out in. Less than 2 months. At least cycle gear made it right. Gave me credit and swapped these POS for some dainese reacto carbon gloves.

Does the KYT TT Revo suit round-oval heads?

Hey I was wondering if anyone with a round-oval head shape has tried the KYT TT Revo? I've tried HJC helmets which didn't fit well at all (C10 gave me sharp pressure on the top of my head, i71 pushes against my temples). I've tried the Shark Ridill (not sure of Ridill 2 or just Ridill) and it seemed to fit my head pretty good for hours, though it's not the most comfortable helmet other than that. I'm also looking at the AGV K3.

Of course, I'll be trying these helmets in store but just wanted some insight because I usually don't feel the pain in helmets until after 20-30 mins.

Bike isn’t starting after some carb work was done.

• Upvotes

Big preface: I am not the biker, nor the one fixing the bike. Why am I making this post instead of her? Bc I’m trying my best to take any stress I possibly can off of her so please bear with me and my limited knowledge. And yes I’m aware I might not get as precise or accurate theories or advice but I’m just looking for anything I can gather to try to help.

My girlfriend’s bike was bogging and had an inconsistent idle when trying to start her up. She knows quite a bit about bikes so bc of this she figured the carb needed cleaning. Did that, put it back in, no improvement. Moved deeper, maybe a clogged pilot jet. The one she hadn’t taken out yet got stripped, so it had to be drilled out and replaced. Not only was there no improvement, but now she won’t even start idling, like the throttle does nothing, it’s just that kinda metallic squeaking (I’m so sorry I’m not sure what those proper terms are) I’ve done a bit of my own research just being like ā€œwhere’s *insert term/part I don’t knowā€? Did you check that?ā€ (I’m not being a backseat mechanic I promise, she overlooks things when she’s stressed. Don’t we all?) but anyways, first thing I saw was about checking if there’s fuel in the float bowl, and there is. I think that’s all the information I’ve gathered on this issue.

Any help is appreciated I don’t care how basic it may be although I think we covered the basics if anyone has any clue what could be going on. She knows a lot about bikes in general and if she doesn’t know something, she figures it out but she’s completely lost and frustrated at this point.

I F'ed up. If you're crossing mud, don't do what I did.

So I was doing Route66 not too long ago and it had been raining in New Mexico/Texas portion that morning.

I didn't expect a mud washout, but there were a few. The first one I got through okay, but the second one, not so much. That mud turned out to be way slicker than I expected and I simply lost traction and control. Looking back, I see that I should have crossed slower and been more patient. And turning around, I would have had to go back through that first washout and backtrack a few miles.

I'll admit, I don't have much experience offroading, if you would call it that.

Luckily there was a guy riding a bike on the same road coming the other way. He saw me fall and helped me get my bike back up. I helped him get his bike over a fence so he could cross the bridge instead of going through the mud like I did.

Came away with zero injuries, though my helmet took a hit, which I'll be replacing soon.

Provide me some advice for cold weather riding

I'm a new rider (a few months now), and I'm determined not to let the coming winter prevent me from enjoying the ride. I bought myself some motorcycle muffs and a windshield in anticipation, and yesterday, in ~30 degree windy weather and rain, found myself driving 80 miles back home. I was hoping to stress test the muffs and windshield, and they worked a treat.

However, the one thing that wasn't protected from the elements was my legs. When I got off of the interstate, I couldn't lift my toes up with enough strength to actually upshift due to the exposure. Had to move my whole leg up instead. Pretty awkward but ultimately it was a few minutes of discomfort from that point to get back home. I was really surprised at how weak my foot was after just an hour.

As temperature continues to go down, what else should I be aware of? Probably a good idea to do some practice in the lot when it gets icy.

This magazine was instrumental in my brother's and I falling in love with fast, ridiculous bikes that were pieced and chopped together! We had a Kawasaki GPZ 550 called the Ciznycle and a GPZ 650 called the Streetfucker. I wish I had more of the old issues. I found this one in a box in my storage unit. Total blast from the past. Hopefully the last pic isn't too spicy.

Need advice on getting my dad's bike back on the road.

My dad recently passed away on Sept 30th. I am inheriting his 2005 Triumph Rocket 3. His bike has been sitting for 4 years that I know of. Prior to it sitting it was well maintained. Currently I know I will need to get a new key or in the extreme a new ignition. It needs to be cleaned up and I would assume some sort of tune up and a new battery but I wanted advice from people more experienced. I ride myself and plan to ride his bike as soon as I can, however he was always who I asked about mechanics when it came to my own bike and he isn't here to ask anymore.

Can I clean some rust of my chain with wd40

Got caught in the rain one day and left my bike at work for a few days as the weather wasn't great and noticed I now have some rust on my chain. Will wd40 work to get it off?

I’m having a hard time finding a rear sprocket.

I own a 2021 Honda Cb300r abs, and currently gearing up to replace my chain and sprockets. I searched both RevZilla and CycleGear and all the rear sprockets there are labeled as ā€œnot fittedā€ for my bike. Does anyone know where I can actually find a rear sprocket that fits? I had zero issues finding a front sprocket so im not sure why the rear sprocket is harder to find than Atlantis lol

How do I reassure my loved ones about riding?

Posted recently about getting my first motorcycle on here, a small 110cc Yamaha Crux. It has since caused a lot of tension ever since ive started riding consistently after my certification.

Ive loved the experience so far, but while I'm always vigilant and observant on the road, Always ride with gear, Keep mind of speed limits and limit my being on major roads and highways, it has since been an uneasy topic.

I know it comes from a place of love, and that the road can be unforgiving especially to beginners, but it has since taken the joy out of the feeling of independence and accomplishment.

Is there anything i can do? Or is it something that has to be ridden out(heh) until they get comfortable?

2023 RE Scram 411... Maybe a little late on first valve adjustment?

I recently bought a Royal Enfield Scram 411 with about 1100 miles on it. No service records, but I changed the oil and it looked good with no debris or shavings in the filter or screen. I haven't checked the valves yet

Feeler gauges just showed up in the mail; I've put about 150 miles on it in the time I've had it. Am I irresponsible thinking going on a group ride tomorrow morning that's less than 200 miles without checking the clearances is going to be alright? I don't have a garage to change them tonight

TL;DR, am I gonna blow up or cause serious damage to my Royal Enfield Scram 411 with 1200 miles by going on a 200 mile ride, unsure if the 300 mile valve inspection has been done?
