If you haven't seen it, check out the Werewolves Within adaptation.
Basically the werewolf game: the movie.
Edit: The link with Google/Youtube's tracking suffix removed (see comment below me for details):

I watched it less because of Sam, more because of the fact it was directed by Josh Ruben, one of my favorite repeat Dropout cast members. Milana Vayntrub being in it didnt hurt either
24
u/tokyogodfather2 Aug 22 '26
Milan’s AND Sam?! Why haven’t I heard of this?! And what is the werewolf game??

u/KingOfAwesometonia Aug 22 '26
Werewolf is a party game like Mafia where one person is a werewolf and has to eliminate the others with deception.
Though the movie is technically specifically based on a video game adaptation by Ubisoft making it one of the best rated video game movies ever made

Honestly, just reading the plot alone got me. First half of it and going by the image, it was like, "Oh that's interesting" and then I legit snort-laughed when I got to the final little tidbit in the synopsis.

Right?! I see this man in a horror or thriller and I’m in! To me he’s perfected that average man in odd situations moniker perfectly.

u/HolyPizzaPie Aug 22 '26
Can’t remember the last time I laughed out loud at just the premise of an upcoming movie.
6
u/stellvia2016 Aug 22 '26
Somewhat topical I guess, but it sounds vaguely like the plot to the Odyssey if you think about it: Guy just wants to get home to his wife, but constantly gets assailed by bullshit.

Sam Richardson is my favorite person. First saw him in Veep and since then everything he's in just makes me happy. One day we'll be friends like him and Tim

I love the way they leaned into his character's unabashed wholesomeness.
In a show with nothing but horrible people, they could have made him a secret monster, but instead the writers understood what they had in him and just kept making him more blissfully unaware of the evil around him. He keeps getting funnier as the seasons go on once the writers figured out how funny his upbeat positivity and naivite can be.
He's one of my favorite characters on the show, and it's not just because he's the only good person, it's because of how funny they made being good.

u/TaxAvoision Aug 22 '26

I remember watching Mike and Dave need Wedding Dates and thinking he was good but never heard of him before. Now I’m excited whenever he pops up in things
Also for the Canadians out there Sugar from YTV played his fiancée

Check out the 2 Seasons of "Detroiters" if you haven't seen it.
It's him and Tim Robinson prior to the insanity of ITYSL. It's a pretty wholesome, fun show that has quite a few moments of hilarity.

Mitch Hedberg had an old bit about catch-and-release fishing: “I don’t wanna kill the fish. I just wanna make it late for something.”
Imagine this as a movie concept, only with humans and aliens.

that's some south park shit right there.
This better be a comedy.

it's Sam Richardson, it's almost certainly a comedy.
I would guess a weird dry comedy similar in vibe to Tim Robinson's movie Friendship

I put that on with a couple of friends, for a movie night. Friends unfamiliar with Robinson. It ... One of them liked it, one hated it. Both were confused.
I thought the presence of Paul Rudd would have softened Robinson, it didn't.

It's an old episode of the Outer Limits.
Season 2, episode 21 - Vanishing Act
A man seemingly becomes bounced through time, vanishing for a decade at a time. He reappears in the life of his loved ones, seeing them age as he intermittently returns.

My prediction is that the aliens will be used as a metaphor for his inability to properly commit to mending his relationship; by the end of the film it will be ambiguous whether they ever existed, or even outright confirmed that they never existed.

First Image of Sam Richardson in ‘Into the Sky’ - A man desperately tries to reconnect with his estranged wife
"Oh wow, Sam's taking himself in a new-"
but keeps getting abducted by aliens
"Hahaha there it is! Thank you!"

Just have to give my praise of Sam Richardson because Richard on VEEP is one of the top 5 funniest characters on tv to NOT become unrecognizably flanderized by the end of the series.
