AMA Hey r/NASCAR! Carson Hocevar, driver of the No. 77 Spectrum Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports, is here before he heads back to Talladega. Ask him anything!
Hey r/NASCAR! We’re Spectrum, and we’re excited to cohost an AMA with u/carsonhocevar, driver of the No. 77 Spectrum Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports.
It’s been a big year for Carson. He picked up his first career Cup Series win at Talladega in April, beating Chris Buescher to the line by just 0.114 seconds, and went on to earn his first spot in the Chase. Now he’s heading back to where it all started on Sunday, Oct. 25.
Carson will be live in this thread on Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM ET to answer your questions. Ask about superspeedway racing, that photo finish, the windowsill victory lap, race weekend life or anything else.
Can’t make it Tuesday? Drop your questions below ahead of time and upvote the ones you want him to see. Carson will answer as many as he can when he goes live.

Talladega Nights (2006) Kyle Busch and Greg Biffle cars
Just thought I would show the scenes with KB's and Greg Biffle's cars, since the movie was shot in 2005, the cars are actually their 2005 Paint Schemes.
Jeff Gluck on X: A look at the (possibly maybe) last time we see flames on the 24 for Axalta's (definitely) final race. The company was bought and is changing to a TBA name next year and will still be a sponsor but won't have the roots of the old DuPont/Axalta scheme anymore (supposedly).
x.comVery unfortunate news, been a part of this car over 25 years

it would have been so cool
if Kasey Kahne went with the Dodge crew, they could have ran the throwback or something.
Scott Riggs in the 25 truck sometime this season it would be a nice surprise

[Bob] Of the top eight in points, only Christopher Bell car didn’t pass inspection first time through. Larson. Hamlin, Briscoe, Blaney, Logano, Reddick, Cindric cars are good.

Hamlin said 80% of O’Reilly drivers pay to drive. I looked at the money trail on 10 of them and what it actually bought on track.
After Hamlin's Actions Detrimental comment, I got curious whether the money actually buys speed. So I picked 10 O'Reilly drivers, looked up who's on the car and whether it follows them team to team, then compared it to their 2026 results through Charlotte.
Seat prices for context (Brad Perez, FanAmp): $40K to $45K a race for a car running 25th or worse, $100K to $150K a race at JRM or Gibbs.
2026 average finish, lower is better:
Sammy Smith: 12.3 (sponsors followed him from Gibbs to JRM)
Brent Crews: 12.4 (no family money found, Toyota development driver)
Parker Retzlaff: 12.9 (FunkAway has followed him to six teams)
Taylor Gray: 15.4 (family money, won Kansas)
William Sawalich: 16.3 (dad is CEO of Starkey, the sponsor)
Dean Thompson: 18.7 (family company on the car)
Jeb Burton: 22.0 (State Water Heaters, his sponsor since 2012)
Patrick Staropoli: 23.8 (new sponsor came with the seat)
Kyle Sieg: 24.4 (parents own RSS)
Ryan Ellis: 27.1 (sells his own deals)
The ones that jumped out:
Same No. 48, one year apart. Nick Sanchez in 2025: a win, 86 laps led, 12 top 10s. Staropoli in 2026: 0 laps led, 0 top 10s. Nobody has reported what that deal is worth or that he pays for the seat, but the car fell off a cliff.
Retzlaff took over the Viking car from DiBenedetto, who averaged 23.6 in it last year, and has it at a 12.9 and a Chase spot. That's money working.
Crews has the best average of Gibbs' four O'Reilly drivers as a rookie.
Parker Kligerman made a good point when I posted this on X: most deals are a mix of family, sponsor and manufacturer money, and you usually can't tell the split from outside. Fair. All I can measure is results.
Full write-up with sources for every money claim: https://www.pitbynumbers.com/articles/oreilly-series-money-trail
Curious who people think is getting the most for their money.

If Dodge returned to ARCA would they use the modern design or try to fit in with the other manufacturers?
I feel like it would make sense to use the new design but I wanna know what you guys think

Anyone have any pics of Matt Kenseth’s crew when he drove the AT&T/DeWalt car in ‘01 and ‘02?
I know this may be a long shot, but I recently got a crew suit from races in which Kenseth raced the AT&T car, and for the life of me, I was only able to find one picture of the crew (attached). Wanted to see if anyone else had any pictures. I’ve also watched old race footage, but it’s all very grainy. He used that paint scheme in the following races:
2001 Dodge/Save Mart 350
2001 Pepsi 400
2002 Dodge/Save Mart 350
2002 Pepsi 400
2002 New England 300

Craziest lower series silly season in years
After another below average cup silly season(except whatever’s happening with Brad I suspect Kaulig 10), it’s been crazy so far in xfinity and seems so far in trucks
Haas
00- ??? (Antrum still rumored?)
41- ??? (Saw something over Alfredo?)
??- Dean Thompson(be interesting to see how he does in top oreily, know he sucked in trucks, but has been pretty decent in Busch)
Ware and Haas Xfinity team?
JRM
1-Sam Mayer
7-Allgaier(how many years does he have left?)
8- Kvapil(could be favorite next year)
9- McKee/buschwackers
88-??? (Rajah seems like he’ll stay but heard alot of not full time again)
RCR
2- Brown
21-C. Smith
3/33- Cleetus/others (Any Rumors on a Dillon going back to Busch, or Jeffrey getting another one-off)
Is Austin Hill still 100% safe in 33 cup?
Young’s
02 ???
42 ???
Haven’t noticed any rumors for these rides
Hendrick
17-Day
Unless they open part time 2nd team for leeches don’t see anything happening
Gibbs
18-Swalich
19-Crews
20-Jones
54-Gray
Don’t see nothing happening unless cookout boy gets 5th car PT
Sam Hunt
24- Perkins
26-Creed(sad to see him have breakout just to go back midpack)
JAR
27- Multiple drivers? (Probably JA/ross, any other rumors on others
31-Poole(Happy to see he’s slowly getting more competitive rides)
32 Dye (ugh)
RSS
22- Jeb Burton(interesting to see how he does, believe he’s the first non start n park to run full time without last name Sieg)
28- Kyle Sieg (I don’t know if I’ve noticed him on race track since he started)
39- Ryan Sieg
Alpha Prime
4?- Bacarella? Maybe Muniz gets a few Busch starts
44?-Ryan Ellis
45?- (Does Lavar Scott stay?)
Any rumors to 2nd alpha prime car?
BMR
48- ??? (Sounds like Starpolli on way out(for good reason) I’ve heard Will Rogers, Ankrum, Sammy Smith, who knows?
Clements
51-Clements
Peterson
78- Harrison Burton
87- Pulliam
Will this team suck worse with expansion?
Viking
96?- ???
99?- Retzlaff?(does he stay or go to truck like other rumors?)
Any rumors on Lavar Scott, Starpolli, Austin Green, Nick Sanchez?

[Bob] Brennan Poole will drive for Jordan Anderson Racing in 2027.
x.comTIL: When Kyle Busch was in prison (for his Mexico gun incident), he tried to get one of the prisoners to sponsor his car.
Heard this in Samantha’s new podcast episode https://youtu.be/A9vmP3G7HCQ?si=69TQTaliwWwre4kc and found it funny as fuck my man was trying to sling deals and get some good out of a shitty situation.
Edit: This was at the 45 min mark btw. And it was for truck sponsorship lmao
