Discussion Amazon finally closed its ears on me

Usually, return process is hassle free and I had no issue with it in the past.

I have tried to return a faulty camera which stopped working after 3 months.

When I asked its bot and asked so I can speak to a physical agent, it gave me an infinite loop:

They directed me to "call now" button and when I click on it it brings me back to main menu. When I crawl myself back to the bot it does the same thing. It keeps saying it cant help and need to call them. They dont let you call them or chat to agent.

I am not sure if its a glitch or their new policy. Please beware when you are buying from Amazon Au from Nz in the future. If this isnt a glitch then you are effectively left with just 4 weeks cover for your stuff.

Would be interested to chat about the benefits of their technology vs. the cost.

Also would be interested to hear from anyone who has looked into it but decided against it.

Mental Health Mental Health Help for others?

Hi all, fairly simple but not really. Is there anything we can do to get mental health help for someone else? Said person is not an immediate threat to self or others so doesn't fall into the emergency bucket.

Diagnosis is depression. Has been on stimulant antidepressants which made the anger worse. Sedative antidepressants have been better but not totally.

Gets set off by any little thing, reactive anger is always disproportionate to the problem at hand. Being around this person is like walking on eggshells. I don't think I have seen this person genuinely happy in years, mood varies between extremely low and maybe just above neutral. I strongly feel like the depression diagnosis is either wrong or not the whole picture, but this person is hugely reluctant to acknowledge issues. Is there anything I can do?

Travel Anyone else noticed Koru rewards you for earning fewer status points…

Reading the Koru T&Cs and the way the Recognition Upgrade rules are written, the way to get the most upgrades isn’t to hold your top tier, it’s stupidly to drop a tier every second year and climb back.

The rules are pre much move up a tier mid year and your unused upgrades get replaced with the new tier’s set. So every tier you climb through in a year pays out, as long as you’ve spent the vouchers before the promotion lands. Key weird interaction of their policy ^

Example:

Start the year Platinum → 2 upgrades, use them
Hit 3,200 later in the year → Black → 3 more
5 long-haul upgrades that year

But now you’ve retained Black, so next year it’s just 3. To do it again you have to deliberately earn under 3,040 for a year so you drop back to Platinum. So the optimal pattern is 5, 3, 5, 3 — and the “3” years are the ones where you’re actively trying not to earn points.

Same thing Gold → Platinum (2 + 2) if you can keep under 1,350 the year before.
Which is a weird incentive. If you’ve got an ANZ Airpoints Visa Platinum, the 50% status points bonus basically becomes a hinderance.

Has anyone else spotted this or actually done it? I’m trying to get as many upgrades as I can out of this programme, and the policy as written is telling me the way to do that is to earn fewer status points every other year. That can’t be what they intended…

Also, I’m aware you have to fly a metric shit tonne to earn these levels of points. But if you fly for work it’s like 5 trips a year.

Advice Moped recommendation please

I’m considering buying a electric moped scooter (cost of fuel is ridiculous). I live in a flat town, and most places I go are within a 10 min drive, (often less). I would prefer a removable battery for charging. Any recommendations or things I should consider?

Other Did worlds' strictest parents have follow-up episodes there? I have a question about one of them

The girl with the alter ego, Sky, like other I suspect would quickly regress back into the old lifestyle. This only comes up in the followups or one episode where the parent and the girl agree that this would happen and she stays longer. The UK episodes had followups as well as aus. Maybe someone even knows who I'm talking about personally.

Discussion New World North vs South Island pricing

Why is pricing for NW in South Island stores between $3-$6.00 more expensive than the edit: South north Island? How long has the price difference been so big.

I changed location from my South Island location (not remote or anything) to a few North Island locations and my total shop costs me $64 more in the South.

Why!!!?

Advice Cheap blister patches/hydrocolloid tape?

I've just gotten into learning to ice skate these past few weeks, and hoooooly blisters! Wondering if y'all have any recs for places to buy cheap blister patches in bulk, or cheap/good rolls of hydrocolloid tape? The rate I've been going through them, I can't keep throwing money at Chemist Warehouse.

Prefer NZ based retailers obviously, I'd really rather not buy from Temu etc. Any recs/suggestions welcome

News Why these articles not get shared more/ accessed more widely to the public so people are warned?

• Upvotes

It just seems weird that these kinds of articles aren’t more widely spread and talked about?
It’s seems it would at least make women aware it’s something to watch out for and perhaps teach boys like this that these actions aren’t okay.
With everything in media these days this is a perfect example of consensual vs non-consensual acts.

Politics Thoughts on the Land Tax idea…

Just watched a YouTube video by Opes Partners discussing the proposed land tax on top of council rates by one of the minor parties. They seem to think the land tax on your home would be ~22k a year based on land value of $1.2mil. Are they wrong - no none is going want to pony up an extra 22k (or in my case a bit less) on top of rates.

Travel Hotel accomadations - Is it really hard to find?

Hi!

We're a group of 6 people travelling from Wellington up to Auckland from Christmas onwards, and we're planning to visit cities like Masteron, Taupo, Rotorua and Hamilton during the trip.

However I would to keep our travel plans flexible (i.e. booking accomadation 1-2 days before) so that we may stay a little longer, or leave earlier in the above mentioned cities, but I heard finding accomadation can be hard to find.

Is this really the case?

We have accomadation already locked in at Wellington and Auckland, but I'm wondering more about the smaller towns/cities in between like Masterton, Taupo, and Rotorua.

Discussion Is car Wash with just water still a massive crime apart from others which is normal????

I was just thinking to do just quick wash for my car, to simply clean of dust. Then just before I open the hose I was like oh dang there is a rule which we are not allowed to do car wash at home. No I dont have lawn.

Then I thought iam only using just water and not cleaning any oil residue or any sorts of chemicals from the car then it will be fine right. Then reading old posts it seems its totally banned.

I used only clean the car like once in 6 months or once in a year and dont use soap or detergents. Just simply wash off the dust on top.

If I parked my car on road that same dust and dirt will go to drain if its raining right. Also same dirt and dust is more on road surface than my car and if that go along with rain water is also fine.

Just disappointed and sad that I use my car dusty and dirty and cant do a quick clean.

Oh I know then I have to take to car wash and pay for it and also have to wait behind other cars or other people taking lot of time like i have to take half day leave from work just to wash my car. Ok that means I have to go at night time when everyone is slept and when its creepy where random person ask you for a coins or change.

Again back to topic. The amount if dirt from shrubs and plants on the driveway and the mud going to drainage system is fine but some bit of dust from car is a crime. Ya I know we cant ban the rain as that is we have to live with.

Discussion Overtaking lane speed limit rules.

Hi NZ have a question on a speeding ticket I got in a overtaking lane.

Last night around 11pm I was driving between Wanganui and bulls ( I was heading to bulls). There were 2 trucks ahead of me with a overtaking lane 2kms up the road.

So I waited for the over taking lane and speed UpTo 115kmh to pass both of them.

Now a cop was coming from the opposite side ( he was going to Wanganui.) when he passed me I had only just passed the 1st truck. Then I see he put his lights on and turned around to pursue me.

I pulled over and the officer explained I was speeding. I told him well I was in the overtaking lane passing 2 trucks. We argued for a bit then he gave me a speeding infringement.

What made it worse is the trucks passed me when I was pulled over and I was again stuck behind them not wanting to overtake again for fear of getting another fine.

What are the legal rules for overtaking. Are you meant to only overtake at the speed limit? Or was he just being a a**hole about it. I saw 115kmh the cop said I was doing 120 ?

Has this happened to anyone else?
