HOUSING Quinovic intentionally bullied tenants out of their property

As RNZ and TVNZ have reported, Quinovic and a landlord have been fined nearly $3,400 for unlawful entry, lack of repairs, and intentionally bullying tenants with "baseless" threats of eviction.

The landlord asked Quinovic (trading as Porirua Property Management), to threaten the tenants with eviction in the hope they would move out early. Of course, Quinovic was happy to oblige, even though they knew it was illegal.

According to the Tenancy Tribunal ruling: "The owner said there was no intention to harass, and the owner acted on the advice of Quinovic, who was the expert here. I find Quinovic’s actions were most definitely intentional, and that the owner agreed to use a threat as a way to end the tenancy.

"This is at the top end of the scale because it is hard to think of a more serious breach to the tenants quiet enjoyment than an intentional campaign to end a tenancy by using baseless threats of eviction."

Maybe the most disturbing aspect of this case is that Quinovic admitted it had used the same tactics against other tenants.

"Quinovic advised the owners that ... Quinovic could notify the tenants that the owners intended to apply to the Tribunal for termination, in the hope that they might issue notice and vacate earlier of their own accord, because this approach had worked in some past tenancies, although Quinovic couldn’t guarantee an outcome."

It looks like Quinovic staff are so comfortable with bullying that they can openly collude with landlords to harass tenants. This really speaks volumes about Quinovic's leadership.

BUYING Recommend me garden furniture that can stay outside year-round

Sorry for niche post.

I am looking for recommendations for outdoor table and 4/5 chairs, that can stay outside year round without being destroyed or getting blown around.

I know I will have to treat wood if I get wooden furniture, that’s fine.

Someone suggested woven steel chairs and a glass table, but I’m concerned that might not be safe and the table could get blown over?

https://www.bunnings.co.nz/marquee-charcoal-steel-sling-chair_p3191815?store=9489&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20595994277&gbraid=0AAAAADL7rPpN9l-QF6SMwxaxOfpRdhQZc&gclid=CjwKCAjwuczWBhA9EiwAYGgEoUvrWRiqKYy8hXaShHkKeOGvcrSUkd9yvBqtVv23EnuB_fv9swydkRoCcvkQAvD_BwE

^ Someone said they’d had these outside for 30 years, still going but I wonder if they’d move around in wind

I could stack chairs but they’d have to live outside

I live in Miramar, on the flat but it’s still windy enough to blown bin over, pots over etc.

HELP! Jewellery remodelling

Kia ora, does anyone have a recommendation on somewhere I can get an heirloom piece of jewellery remodelled? It’s an engagement ring.

Also curious what kind of cost I should expect! I’m not wanting it entirely changed, but just modified a little to make it a bit more wearable.

Thanks!

HELP! Chocolate Coated Coffee Beans

Hi Team,

I used to love these things - chocolate coated coffee beans. I don't think I've seen them anywhere since I moved here 14 years ago. Does anyone know if anywhere in the region does such a thing?

Thanks in advance!

JOBS Work experience

Very much a long shot (especially during these turbulent times). But would anyone be able to point me in the direction of businesses around the region that may be able to take on an electrical/electronic engineering student for work experience over the summer.

The work doesn't need to be necessarily engineering either, it can be repairs or manufacturing. I also can drive anywhere so the location doesn't matter.

I've been cold calling over the year across the country and applying online, all with zero results haha.

It's alright if not, I understand! But also if someone could let me know of any place where I can borrow a soldering iron and oscilloscope, that would also be awesome. Although I highly doubt there's a place like that nearby.

HELP! Lower Hutt: furniture mover / assembly

May be a bit of a long shot, but I have a really heavy wardrobe I'd like to pay some skilled people to help shift.

I wouldn't expect it to be a big job, as we just need to shift the wardobe almost a meter along the same wall, but as the wardrobe is likely 80 - 100 kg after we empty it, I'd much rather utilise professionals (also I'm unsure if the tradie, attached it to the wall to stop it from tipping).

Bonus points, if they also do kitset/furniture assembly, though I do have 2 kitset assembly people I could reach out to separately.

COMMUTE More dodgy people on the Hutt Valley Line lately? Is it just me or has it gotten noticeably worse this year?

Couple of things I've seen recently. A guy sitting near me paid the conductor cash for a paper ticket, and the second he was handed it he ripped it up and threw it on the floor. Didn't seem bothered who saw. Not sure if it was a statement or what, but it was weird.

Another time a guy a few seats over was restless the entire trip. Couldn't sit still, kept shifting around, and his movements were jerky like he didn't have proper control of them. Looked like he was on something.

The thing that gets me is the timing. This is around 2pm on a weekday, not late at night. I've been taking this line for a while and I genuinely don't remember seeing this kind of thing a year ago.

Has anyone else noticed a change? Wondering if it's just me.

HELP! Unarius Wellington Branch in the 90s

Hi - I'm looking to connect with anyone who was involved in the Wellington branch of UNARIUS in the 90's. They had a space opposite pigeon park. Friends have mentioned a man named Dave Colf who made a UFO for the Millennial Celebrations, commissioned by the city council.

Any info helpful!!
