2023 Fall and Winter Orchid Trade and Sale Thread
Please use this post only to offer or request orchids for trade or sale. Before you post what you'd like to trade/sell, or what you're looking to trade for, read the rules below first!
Rules:
1.) No personal information can be exchanged publicly. Conduct sharing of addresses via pm or email.
2.) Post what orchid(s) you have for trade, what you're looking for in return. If you have pictures, post them or write an accurate description of the orchid you want to trade or sell. If you're selling, post how you'd like to receive compensation.
3.) If you agree to a trade and have an issue on your end of the deal, communicate! Most people are reasonable and will understand a delay or an unexpected issue that comes up. That being said, trade at your own risk. The moderators are not responsible for privately conducted trades gone wrong. However, if there's an issue with an ongoing trade do contact the moderators. If someone fails to come through with their end of the deal, ignores communication or otherwise is being problematic we need to make the community aware of deadbeat traders. Do NOT make posts calling people out, insulting, harassing, or making accusations at them publicly.
4.) Only make legal trades here. If you ship or receive a trade overseas or out of your country, make sure all proper paperwork is in place first if required.
5.) Ship within a reasonable time and pack well. Flat rate Priority, 2-3 day via USPS within the US is standard for plants. Use whichever shipping method is appropriate for other countries. Your orchid shouldn't spend more than a 2-3 days in the mail so they don't suffer too much from the heat/cold. While in cooler weather its generally better to ship orchids totally dry, its probably best to water any more moisture loving plants a day or two before they ship out (so they are moist but not soggy) or wrap some sphagnum that has been wetted but thoroughly squeezed out around the roots of bare root plants.
6.) If you've successfully traded, update your post to make sure it availability is accurate.
Giveaways, and just trying to re-home an orchid that maybe just isn't performing for you is totally fine to post too! You never know who might want to try growing it. Seed pods are also a great thing to offer since many people may want to try flasking and it is safer and easier to send seeds than plants. If everyone trades fairly this is a great way to add to your collection or get rid of orchids you are bored with or are willing to make divisions of.
Happy trading!

Question How exactly do I repot this?
This is the first orchid I bought and it has been rather happy in its 3D printed hanging pot. I am starting to think it might need more space but it is literally woven into the pot. Is there a way to repot or is this its forever home?

Masdevallia herradurae, 6 years old and never stops
This one would probably be 3x the size but I've divided it several times. The flowers smell like cinnamon.

Success Really different catasetum blooms
I got the ctsm expansum back in March 2025. It stayed dormant for a year where it finally woke up April 2026. This came from ecuagenera. It's totally worth the wait. Maria Mercado had a nice color and shape. Cycnodes Leopard's Gold, the camera does not do it justice with how intense the yellow really is irl.
I got more upcoming blooms soon. Enjoy the show!

Success First time with an orchid, it's been a year now and they - at least to me - seem happy. They're so pretty!
I was wondering if you guys saw anything that I could do better. Should I repot? Trim anything?

Question Help - vanilla orchid
Hi all!
This is my second time trying to take care of a vanilla orchid. My last one died many years ago.
I ordered this one on Etsy and it arrived undamaged. I have kept it in this pot with the sealed Saran Wrap and tape for the past two weeks as to not disturb it too much. I opened it up today and it looks like one of the two plants is in a baby plug substrate that has hardened. The other one looks like it’s actually growing some nice roots into the substrate it’s currently in.
Here’s my question: I don’t like the square pot. Can I just move it to a round one? Does this substrate look like it’s adequate for a vanilla orchid? If not, what can I change? I don’t want to kill this plant this time around 😬
Thanks in advance!! ❤️

Question Something interesting to do with an overgrown keiki?
I have some kind of multiflora phalaenopsis that produced amazing blooms, but ended up pushing out a terminal spike that led to a keiki (at present, the original plant is a bit of an unusual stalk with two basal keikis). I let the keiki grow for several years as pictured, but have finally cut it. I know I could pot it up in bark as I normally do, but wondered if any of you had suggestions as to something more unusual, since this keiki has been living out of media for some time and it could be amenable to less moist conditions. Wondering if anyone had suggestions for beginner approaches to mounting, perhaps?
I am 100% fine if the answer is “pot it up in bark,” but thought I would ask. Thank you!

Brassavola nodosa
Brassavola nodosa is an orchid species that grows on trees and rocks in nature and is one of the easier species to grow in my setup. Despite setbacks from mealy bugs, scale, a horticultural oil burn that led to a bacterial infection, the plants recovered and flowered well. I grow three plants to enjoy the natural variation within the species; one recently acquired and smaller in both plant and flower size, and two similar in plant size but differing in spike length and leaf shape, one having a longer spike and a flatter rather than tubular leaf.

Indoor Orchids Spike or Keiki?
My (badly treated) orchid (it was a rescue) has developed this on an older flower stem. Why is there two „leaves”? Is this what is called a Keiki? We’re entering dark and cold wintermonths, how best to care for it?

Success My orchids are reminding me there is hope after an abusive relationship
I cried today seeing this new growth on my orchids. I recently got out of a very abusive relation that took up so much of my time and energy that I wasn’t even able to take care of my beloved orchids. My orchids hadn’t bloomed in a year and my favorite orchid died because I neglected them. Some of them had gotten sunburned, one got crown rot. I’ve had most of these orchids for four or five years, and I’ve NEVER had one die. He just stole all my fucking time, I wasn’t even home enough to water them or keep an eye on them regularly.
Anyways I left that relationship about two months ago after he threatened to shoot me with a gun, I had to go to the hospital, and literally had to run away. When I came home after a week of being in a domestic shelter, my favorite orchid had died.
I cried today when I saw that FINALLY after almost a year, all my orchids have new growth. I’ve had the time to take care of them again. I have time to take care of myself. I hope this comes as a sign to someone to care of yourself and there will be growth in the future. 💚
