You can not be telling me that 3rd gens are considered old already. I just got it... 6 years ago...

They are not. OP is humble bragging

u/PurbulentTriest 19h ago

Bragging how? They aren't getting a new GPU

u/PPSSPPMasterBlaster 15h ago

Having a 3080ti and crying about it is humblebraging because you want someone to pitty you for having a better GPU than 97% of the population.

It's like crying your 2022 Mercedes needs new tires while people drive around in 1995 Volkswagens.

u/Destrobo_YT 15h ago

Oh, I didn't read the title and thought he was taking about Titan bruh. I'm here with my 2060 Super who is choking hard these days

7

u/PPSSPPMasterBlaster 14h ago

The 2060 super is fine just use Lossless Scaling. I got a 1070 and I am more than fine with it + LS.

Did you miss the point of the post? The GPU thought the person was upgrading but he was just getting put in a new machine/housing. the 3080Ti is more than capable and at current prices no fucker is really upgrading. No one is crying, it's being happy with what you have because it's more than adequate.

People are not really driving around in 1995 VWs, so that's a weird comparison.

It's also not more than 97% of gamers, the Steam hardware survey shows that more than 6% of people have the 5070, about 2% have the 5080: https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/videocard/

Can't wait to put my 3080 in an A3 case and use it hooked up to the tv in my livingroom

2

u/IDrankLavaLamps 14h ago

I have one, for the longest time I thought of upgrading cause bigger number equals better? Is it really that good?

5

u/PPSSPPMasterBlaster 13h ago

I mean, a 5080 is better than a 3080, but the 3080 is still very, very capable. There is not a single game that can't use it.

It's comparing a 2020 Ferrari and a 2025 Ferrari. The 2025 is better, but the 2020 is still very, very good and there is no extreme need to upgrade. If you can and want to, that is okay, of course.

There are very few GPUs that are faster, without spending way more money, unfortunately.

Performance progress has slowed down a lot these last few years.

u/KhlebD 13h ago

I was contemplating upgrading mine too but right now I don't thinks its worth it. 3080ti is only slightly weaker than a 5070 and you can enable frame gen on 30 series cards now. So the only worthwhile upgrade is the 5080 but it costs about 2.5 times more than what I payed for my used 3080ti

u/smb1985 11h ago

My 6800xt from the same time (and somewhat less powerful than the 3080ti) is still running great, I can't imagine why they'd even suggest that it's end of life. Literally runs any new title I throw at it at max or near max settings at 3440x1440. Only thing it doesn't like it cranking rt but big whoop there

0

u/Kram941_ 13h ago

He isnt crying at all....he is saying is 3080 is more than capable and going to continue using it in his new rig...

0

u/Viole123EUW 9h ago

Huh? Rtx 5070 is the most popular GPU on steam atm and is faster than that rtx 3080 ti and way more efficient

0

u/PPSSPPMasterBlaster 9h ago

Okay, then he has a GPU that is better than some 80%or 90% of people on Steam, not better than 97%. A large number of gamers in third world countries still don't use Steam/have no imternet access so the statistic os not be all and end all. But I admit I overstated my claims.

u/Totoro_II 19h ago

a 3080ti is a brag, it's still a very expensive and powerful GPU

5

u/v1sper i7-12700K 32GB DDR4 RTX 3080Ti 13h ago

The RX 9070 is probably a better card, and it is (at least here) around £950. I paid €1761 for my 3080Ti in september 2021.

u/HerrPotatis 14h ago

Very powerful is honestly a stretch today, I guess it depends on what you compare it to?

It's what I have, and it still gets the job done, mostly. But it's definitely starting to struggle with new graphic intense titles. I just started playing W3 RM and have to set the graphics to medium for it to play nicely. It was kind of like an "oh ok" moment when I had to turn down the settings that low. Legitimately, a year or two from now I might have to play new titles on mid-low.

I can't afford to fork over $7K for a 5090, but I don't think it's unreasonable to wish you could upgrade if this was your hobby. Comparison is the thief of joy.

-22

u/PurbulentTriest 19h ago

It's five years old and they can't afford a newer/better GPU.

19

u/Papuszek2137 7800x3d | 5070ti | 64GB | 4k OLED 18h ago

Or you know they just don't need one.

1

u/Fun-Break-9486 19h ago

How is a 3080Ti a humble brag? It's a 5 years old GPU, I can't replace mine and my sole hobby is gaming.

3

u/PPSSPPMasterBlaster 15h ago

Because it is literally a top of the line card that doesn't need any kind of replacing. There is not a single game you can't play with that card, even on 4K.

People game on PSPs, PS2s and PS3s, integrated graphics, 15 year old office PCs with no 6 pin/8 pin GPUs.

Also, get a second hobby.

u/Tiamat2625 i5 12600k - RTX 3080 12GB - 32GB 3600MHz - 1440p165hz 6h ago

This is a bit of hyperbole. The 3080Ti is 5-10% better than my card, and my card is beginning to struggle sometimes in newer titles, trying to stay above 60fps... in 1440p.

My house is fully paid, and I still can't upgrade my 1050ti. And I'm very frugal with money.

2

u/definitivno-ne-troll 15h ago

Just use the house as collateral for a loan for a 5090 /s

2

u/3dforlife 14h ago

Why didn't I think about it? :D

30

u/rearranger3535 20h ago

I was using a 1060 6gb until last year

22

u/No_transistory FX8320@4.5Ghz, R9 270x, 16gb HyperX Fury 11h ago

I'm still using a 1060. Prices will come down soon...they have too...pls...

u/S01arflar3 3700X 980Ti 32GB RAM 5h ago

I’m still using my 980ti. She’s still doing a grand job

4

u/Atomic_Nexus i5-9500 + Quadro P1000 | i5-4590 + GTX 1060 6 GB 11h ago

I just started using one.🥀

(Semi-retro rig, but still)

3

u/morpheousmorty 14h ago

That card may be the best buy in history. I upgraded a whole ago but only because of VRAM, it still ran great if it could fit everything in memory.

4

u/UnexpectedFeatures 13h ago

The 10 series is near immortal. My 10 year old ex-miner 1080 is still my gaming card. I don't play anything crazy, but it still does well on new games with high settings. I don't think they make them like that anymore.

3

u/wonderboy2402 13h ago

was just going to say, Still running a 1080, the gray workhorse.

1

u/bestanonever 11h ago

Similar situation here. I was using an GTX 1070 until November, last year. And before that, the RX 580. The 1070 was a hand-me down from a friend that got a 3080ti, funny enough.

1

u/Chip_redit 8h ago

I still use the 1060 3gb

6

u/totallyrealname 19h ago

Mine's only 4 years old. If it's anything like the 1080 it will do me fine for another 10 if I want.

3

u/nomad5926 15h ago

I'm still running my FTW 3070Ti Got no plans on upgrading anytime soon.

2

u/Alanuelo230 PC Master Race 11h ago

That what techbros WANT you to think, but truth is, that there's small performance difference between RTX generations, only DLSS and RT cores are noticeably upgraded, stupid stuff like frame gen in really not worth mentioning

u/KuhlerTuep 5700X3D | 2080ti | 64GB 3600 9h ago

Currently facing thebforst game i have ti scale graphics back on for a considerable amount.

With a 2080ti.

I just got that a mere 7 years ago. Still feels like yesterday.

Cant believe the timw has come for that to happen

1

u/R3v017 9h ago

3rd gen? I've never seen 3000 series referred to as that. It's definitely not the 3rd generation of Nvidia cards nor the 3rd generation of RTX cards.. so?

1

u/ae_94 8h ago

Old i got my 5 years ago still running strong

1

u/ToffieMonster 7h ago

Still using a 2060 Super and running everything at max at 1080p. Everyone else can smd

1

u/84hoops 6h ago

RTX 3000 is not “3rd gen”.

1

u/lizardguts PC Master Race 4m ago

More like 23rd gen....

u/mostwantedycbe R7 7800X3D, RTX 5070 Ti, 32 GB DDR5 6000 MHz CL30 6h ago

In my head the 3060 is still the baseline GPU for a starter gaming pc
