Haven't watched it (I know I know...) . What is the context?

British guy and pirates are fighting. British guy (Cutler Beckett) made a deal to own Davy Jones’ ship (the one that pops out of the sea). The Flying Dutchman is a dead man’s ship, all crew are sea zombies cursed for eternity.

The British guy did not know that one of the crewmembers’ son (Orlando Bloom over there), killed Davy Jones, cut out his own heart, and committed himself to be the new captain for eternity, saving his dad, and freeing the Dutchman and her crew from the agreement with Beckett.

Beckett realizes Orlando Bloom is the new captain too late, both ships turn in, full broadside. End scene.

Why didnt the British fire at all?

Yeah both smaller ships with fewer guns put themselves in direct line of the maximum amount of British guns.

If that British ship wanted to 1v2 them in a slugging match that’s the best position it could hope for.

If they had fired it would have been a complete wipeout!

Not to mention that the two hero ships would have likely hit each other in this process.

The two smaller ships could have just continued forward and crossed the T on the larger British ship for an actual advantage.

Instead we’re presented with the situation where no British crew just proceeded to fire because that captain froze for some reason.

Because their Captain never gave the order

I get that, but why not? Its a out of character decision to allow themselves to be finger trapped between 2 ships when the already had their cannons rolled out. I know its a ghost, pirate, squid movie, but its a bad setup

The flying dutchman is impossible to sink. You also cant run cause It has an ability to summon Kraken. So its already gg.

The British had already forced Davy Jones to kill the Kraken at this point in the movie.

That guy isnt an actual naval officer, he's a high ranking employee of the east india company

He barely has any experience in actual naval warfare and only uses that massive ship to flaunt wealth and intimidate enemies, not to mention it usually has enough firepower to curbstomp conventional ships

Unfortunately neither of the 2 pirate ships are conventional, and he couldnt make the snap judgment to order his sailors

the other two ships are literally magical. the dutchman is required to transport those who died, and the black pearl literally just came back from being destroyed by a kraken. he basically froze up when a ship he'd already blown up once and the fucking grim reaper both came at him.

Was this the same ship they planned on shooting with all their cannons rolled out 10 seconds earlier?

he could fight the black pearl. it's a 1v1.

but he has next to no ability to beat the dutchman. He could only control the owner. If he killed davey, he would've just become the new captain of the ship, which is what Orlando's character did, with jack's help, because he was dying.

He's not a real military commander of any kind. He panicked and froze up. It would be like if you put the CEO of Blackrock in charge of a US carrier strike group.

Irrelevant. In such a scenario one of the other officers would have taken charge. Yes, he'd be court martialed later, but he would be acquitted.
