I only just now figured out that GTA VI is not coming out on physical disc. I am so disappointed. I’m going to have to tell my kids that we’re going to have to wait until the PC version comes out. It hurts like hell but I have to wait now.

That said, I will pirate the hell out of it if it’s available until I’m able to buy the retail PC version.

Whatever Gaben said with piracy and good service. I think we're at the beginning of a good era for piracy and emulation, and maybe at some point Sony and the likes will take their head out of their collective asses and listen to the people who are actually making them money. It's not that we don't want to pay 70-90€ for a game, it's that we want to be sure that we own it. The day they make a console with an actual ownership system and right-to-repair implemention, I'll be standing in line to get one.

Rockstar is panicking. They already put out a statement that gta 6 will only work on the latest update because the emulated ps5 is on a lower version. There's also leaks that they pushed the pc release way closer to the first quarter of next year. They're trying to hurry up and release the pc version to stop the emulators, but they still want to space them just enough apart for double dip buys, scummy.

If anything it makes the ship in the center have a better chance at fighting the 2v1 since they're lining themselves up with cannons on either side of the ship, where typically they'd have to shoot from one side and rotate. That, and as you say, the friendlies on either side are a backstop for the others; firing through wooden ships like that would have probably resulted in a lot of overpenetration.

The thing was that they held the Flying Dutchman in their grasp because they believed thought that they still have it's captains heart, so they can't turn on them, realistically they wouldn't even have prepared the burning torches to fire cannons as the Flying Dutchman is invincible and Black Pearl would be destroyed in matter of seconds or minutes. So both ships turning of them was a complete shock and unbelievable situation, sailors would wait for clearly states order to fire to alleviate any tactical planning in the fight but the order couldn't come as captain was utterly shocked and paralysed, that's why lieutenant order to abandon ship because at that point he couldn't be court marshalled as it would be lucky if captain would survive. However, it's a movie so it's exaggerated for entertaining purposes. Flying Dutchman was magical ship and basically indestructible, so fast nobody could outrun it, had even front cannons and captain practically couldn't be killed as whoever killed him would need to replace him on eternal duty on board

realistically, the guys manning the cannons can't see shit. they get 1-2 shots at best, so if they try to act on their own initiative they are highly likely to waste the shot, they rely on the captain (or other leadership like the 1st officer) telling them when to fire. they likely thought the captain was waiting for a better shot when more of the cannons would hit even as they were being shot.

No one else mentioning something that may not be evident - the second ship, which came out of the water, was previously under the command of the captain of the middle ship (under duress.) The captain of the middle ship expected it to fight with him, not against him. Also, that ship’s crew is immortal so it’s kind of a big deal that it switched sides.

British guy and pirates are fighting. British guy (Cutler Beckett) made a deal to own Davy Jones’ ship (the one that pops out of the sea). The Flying Dutchman is a dead man’s ship, all crew are sea zombies cursed for eternity.

The British guy did not know that one of the crewmembers’ son (Orlando Bloom over there) cut out his heart and committed himself to be the new captain for eternity, saving his dad, and freeing the Dutchman and her crew from the agreement with Beckett.

Beckett realizes Orlando Bloom is the new captain too late, both ships turn in, full broadside. End scene.

Yeah both smaller ships with fewer guns put themselves in direct line of the maximum amount of British guns.

If that British ship wanted to 1v2 them in a slugging match that’s the best position it could hope for.

If they had fired it would have been a complete wipeout!

Not to mention that the two hero ships would have likely hit each other in this process.

The two smaller ships could have just continued forward and crossed the T on the larger British ship for an actual advantage.

Instead we’re presented with the situation where no British crew just proceeded to fire because that captain froze for some reason.

That guy isnt an actual naval officer, he's a high ranking employee of the east india company

He barely has any experience in actual naval warfare and only uses that massive ship to flaunt wealth and intimidate enemies, not to mention it usually has enough firepower to curbstomp conventional ships

Unfortunately neither of the 2 pirate ships are conventional, and he couldnt make the snap judgment to order his sailors

Some people prefer consoles for their use of physical media.

If consoles no longer have access to physical media and they're forced to use digital content instead, then that puts it on an even footing with PC.

Consoles used to be cheaper than PCs, now consoles are far more expensive, so the gap has closed somewhat.

Then you factor in that PC has mods etc, that consoles don't and its even more of a pull to move from console to PC.

And the nail in the coffin is "fuck it, I can just pirate and emulate games for free".

Something about the combination of this scene with the current events in PS5 emulation is so cathartic to watch. I'm sure most of it is nostalgia pulling me back into this moment in the movie,.
