The Undertaker immediately after being accidentally lit on fire in 2010.

Circumstances aside, and not that I’m much of a wrestling fan in general, but that picture is about the most unapologetically and unironically badass thing I’ve ever seen in terms of wrestling showmanship.

There’s a reason Mark Calaway had a 30+ year and 20-0 record. He drew crowds with his aura alone. Dude is a legend. Check out the A&E documentary to learn about his career very impressive and well respected dude.

His kid and my kid competed in their sport for a few years. He’s a nice guy with a very intimidating presence. He tries very hard to blend into the crowd while his kid is doing her thing but I did talk to him”hell in a cell” with him once and he told the story passionately. He had everyone in the vicinity glued to his every word. For having such a storied history, the guy is very down to earth.

that sounds nice, too bad he's actively campaigning for trump

Went to a signing he was doing at a CD Warehouse (and yes, I am also old now) and he spent a lot more time than he needed to, talking with 10 year old me.
Absolutely meet your heroes.

Imagine being his opponent at Wrestlemania during the streak and seeing that walk out of gorilla.
Might as well add the L to your record immediately.

If that whole 'aura farming' concept was a photo, it'd be this. Though it looks like it was just take a split second before he started actually panicking because he was on fire.
•

Nah, you have to be affected by the wrestling industry to think this. For someone outside of the wrestling world completely, t just looks like a man on fire, doesn't come off as badass or anything you should treat with extra respect.

9 year old me literally thought this dude was straight from hell. I remember when they killed him and he came back from the dead, I changed the channel to the news because how would they not be covering this
•
u/TheRealMikkyX 3h ago
Was that after the casket match with Yokozuna? I was 12 when that was on, and when the Arena went dark and the camera cut to him inside the casket saying he'd be back it frightened the life out of me 😂
•
u/Ep1cUser 2h ago
I don't remember, but I remember someone being put into a coffin and buried alive, with Paul Barer there. At that age, I believed that the characters they played were real lol
Edit: not op. This would've been around 2000ish

There used to be a British show called Crystal maze where contestants would be locked in a room and had to complete the challenge within some time to get out or they could give up before the time was up. If they didn't leave the room in time, the team moved on without them. Add a kid, I thought these people were left in those rooms for the rest of their lives.

LMAO. A classic show if anyone hasn't seen it, well the Richard O'Brien hosted ones are anyway. It was such a huge show.

At one point as a kid I thought that when they wanted someone to die in a movie scene they just got a suicidal person to act in it and actually killed them.

Undertaker and Kane are one of the reasons I started watching wrestling. Awesome story about how undertaker sacrificed his family for power, but his brother survived and was given demon powers from hell.

Reading all the responses to this admittedly awesome photo and only feeling disappointment that u/shittymorph isn’t here…
•
u/FileeNotFound 3h ago
Shhh, you might summon him
•
u/PiesRLife 3h ago
He can never be summoned, he turns up when and where he wants - and when you least expect him (hopefully).
•
u/N64PLAY10 2h ago
The way he tells it he spent the first part of the match pouring water on himself while his skin was blistering. When he got to the back he said the guy better be gone by the time he was changed, and he was. Forever
•
u/museolini 3h ago
Oddly, he doesn't seem to mind all that much.
•
u/ChrisBabaganoosh 3h ago
One frame after this, he's ripping his coat off and running to the ring absolutely pissed off and his skin already blistering.
•
u/JSmellerM 3h ago
That's because he hasn't realized it yet.

u/rikashiku 1h ago
I mean, he is an undead necromancer from hell. A Lich with Fighter abilities.
Grave Knight? Death Knight?

Nah, they killed a guy and got away with it.

OSHA did?!

Nah WWE. In 1999, wrestler Owen Hart was to do a stunt requiring a quick release canopy from the top of the arena. The canopy was released while Hart was lowered to the ring and he fell 72 feet suffering fatal injuries. Even after this tragedy, they decided to continue on with the show.
His widow sued the WWF for wrongful death and all they had to do was sign a check. Nobody went to prison for this .

Even though it was a dangerous error. I'd guess he probably has a pic of this hanging up somewhere in his home.

You can tell he's thinking about firing the pyro guy already
•
u/VelvetThunder11789 6m ago
From what I recall he was fired, but before that he fled the building because he knew how fucked he would be after the match once Taker was on his way to find him.

Does anyone have context?

u/RawAttitudePodcast 1h ago
For a while, during his entrance he would walk out to the ramp, stand there for a moment, flames would shoot up from below on both sides of him, and then he would walk to the ring. In this case, something went wrong and the flames hit him instead.

Can confirm. Didn’t realize it watching at the time, but Elimination Chamber 2010 I believe was it. You can see during his entrance he breaks his slow walk he normally does & when he’s waiting to get into the match, he’s pouring water on himself cause he got burned.
•
u/Jack_sander 1h ago
Yeah and he handled it like the badass he is. He even had Jericho drop kick him

At Elimination Chamber 2010 The Undertaker was making his entrance when a pyro malfunction caused him to be completely engulfed in flames and briefly lit his jacket on fire: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHA-ASre51M
The Undertaker was fortunate to walk away with relatively minor burns on his shoulder and arm and continued with wrestling the match. The format of the Elimination Chamber match meant that he wouldn't get involved physically for another fifteen minutes anyway and so he was able to pour water over his arms to cool his burns while waiting to join the match.
There was another added element of fortune as he had been planning to wear an outfit during his entrance that was much more lightweight and flammable. Only minutes before the match he was looking in a mirror backstage and made a last minute decision to switch to a heavy leather trenchcoat as it would show off the big gold belt he was wearing more clearly. The decision turned out to be a good one as the trenchcoat gave him a lot of protection and didn't completely ignite.
The pyro guy was fired (not literally).
