Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Is her double helix rejecting?

Post image

Hi guys, My friend got this piercing about a month ago on September 5th. The first couple of weeks everything was fine and the healing went smoothly, but ever since the start of this month, its been getting crusty and gunky which she looked up and it seemed normal, but now I dont think whats happening is normal😭.
I promise she has jewelry in both holes, but the one on the top has literally been eaten up by the skin around it which I don’t think is normal! The jewelry that she was pierced with was simple studs and butterfly backs and she literally cannot get the butterfly backs off. Is this rejecting or is this what normal healing looks like
? Also she just uses normal saline solution to clean it and obviously she cleans it when it gets crusty.

If the jewellery has embedded into her ear, she needs to go to a doctor to get it cut out, and to also get the other one removed, and to also possibly get antibiotics if it is infected because it doesn’t look nice

For future reference, piercings should never be done with butterfly backs because they can harbour so much bacteria and are very hard to clean, if a piercer wants to put in jewellery with butterfly backs then do not let them pierce you, go to somewhere that will put flatback studs in

She needs to see a different (better) piercer ASAP. This is kinda urgent

I’m so confused as to why people are waiting until earrings embed to be concerned?!

“Rejecting” is when the body pushes the piercing back out. This is not that at all. This is embedding, which is the opposite and should be seen by a medical professional.

Butterfly backs???? In a helix piercing??? It’s bad enough when “piercers” put in butterfly backs in fresh lobe piercings but to put them in fresh helix piercings is fucking insane. Did your friend get these done by gun? And did she do any prior research? Whoever did this is not a professional.

Your friend needs to go to a doctor to see what to do about the embedded jewelry and then to a real professional piercer and ask for implant grade flatbacks ASAP. And never return to whoever did this. Leave a bad review. Nobody in this day and age should be getting butterfly backs installed into fresh piercings. Jfc.

Safepiercing.org is a good place to start to look for a better piercer.

Ok thank god cause if it had been gun, this would’ve been way worse. Nonetheless, butterfly backs are a huge no-no. She’s gonna have to have a doc cut the skin open on the embedded one. She should be prepared for them to remove the jewelry completely, in which case, it’s probably best to just let it heal over and get it repierced properly at a later date. Bottom one is salvageable so long as she gets to a professional piercer in a timely manner and gets an implant grade flatback in. The top embedded one is the most pressing thing though so she needs to get to a doc or clinic ASAP.

She needs to go to an urgent care to get the jewelry cut out of her ear.
