This is not a hate comment: as a Montrealer who lived around Canada for years at a time - a halfway decent poutine will really hit the spot.
That being said - this one looks much better than anything I ate in Ontario or NS.

Next time just say that it was in some random village in Quebec, that gives more upvotes ;-)

Honestly for BC this doesn’t look bad.
Something we all need to realize is that most of the country doesn’t have easy access to fresh squeaky curds.
And even if we do, they are super expensive because the cheese making businesses don’t have the economics/volume to sell at a cheaper price for fresh never cooled curds.
The businesses also don’t do enough volume to get a shipment of fresh curds every day or every other day.
It’s the sad reality of living in a country with so much landmass and not enough cheese makers.

Pro tip: when you can’t eat them fresh, don’t put the curds in the fridge, freeze them and they’ll still squeak

To all of you elitist pricks in the comment section here: this is legitimately the best poutine in BC, with the possible exception of the Sugar Shack in 70 Mile. If you haven’t tried it and you’re crapping on it, you’re just a troll.
The only complaint I have about La Belle Patate after visiting last week is that their sizes have shrunk since the last time I was there, maybe a year ago or so. But that’s just the result of inflation and I’d rather pay a bit more than have the restaurant go out of business.

It’s good but I think Anny’s dairy bar is better. Haven’t had a chance to try sugar shack yet. I’ll put it on my list.

Looks good. From a Montrealer. People become Gordon Ramsays even when it comes to a meal that has nothing to do with gourmet food. Poutine is what you eat when you're hungover...

It’s the best in BC! And you’re right everyone thinks they know a good poutine by the look of it 🙄

I follow handspinning subs. I thought this was a dirty sheep fleece getting its first cold soak.

This poutine is actually really good. OP's pics don't do it justice because it's takeaway or delivery or something.

The curds arent suppose to melt but for a roc poutine it looks good
1
u/emquizitive 3d ago
What nonsense. Curds do melt, just not the same as less-fresh cheese.
1
u/Quatre-cent-vingt 3d ago
Fresh curds won't melt. The whole poutine is gonna get cold and the fresh curds are still going to be fine. If you microwaved it it would eventually melt, but fresh curs on hot fries and sauce don't melt.

u/emquizitive 3d ago
It depends on the type of cheese. Not all curds are from the same type of cheese. Yes, they stay intact and are squeakier, but they do get soft and melty on poutine. The older they are the easier they melt. Even my St. Albert curds purchased straight from the source melted after only a few days of having them.

Take out does this BC of the lid but this is unironically one of the nicest ones I've seen outside QC. Roc poutine never has enough cheese. Roc poutine always has green onions on it too for some weird reason 😆

u/lucaskywalker 4d ago
Outside of Québec, no shredded cheese? That's at least above average imo! If you're not careful, the poutine police will cone to you for wasting their time. Does it look amazing? Hardly, but there is no crime in this photo.

Canada, can you stop pretending poutine is your thing… you clearly dont know what you are doing…

u/benbetterthanallmen 3d ago
Canada is a big country

u/Patatemagique 3d ago
Yep and it will feel very empty when Quebec leaves with it’s poutine…

Ontario has surpassed Quebec with top spots in the last decade especially eastern Ontario hate to break it to you. Mtl is extremely overrated for poutine as a born and raised quebecer

You can’t be serious with this take

I am eastern Ontario has come such a long way it’s surpassed Montreal. Quebecers will never admit it but it’s true. I grew up in Montreal but small eastern Ontario towns smoke it hands down
1
u/Lunch0 Classic Traditional 2d ago
Ok but you didn’t say Montreal, you said Quebec.
There’s no way at all that eastern Ontario beats Quebec for poutine.

I said Montreal specifically. How could anyone speak for an entire province considering how big the provinces are? I speak about the small towns in eastern Ontario specifically and Montreal because these are places I’ve been around my whole life. Outawais region as well.
Montréal is like the tourist trap version of poutine
1
u/Patatemagique 2d ago
Just like the ROC is a tourist trap for poutine while believing it really is a Canadian thing. Poutine is from Quebec get your own culture Canada!

Quebec is Canada you weird separatist. Do you understand how much support Quebec receives from Canada? More than any other province by a country mile. Quebec as an independent country would be a monumental failure considering it can’t support itself as a province. I’m glad I got out of there with crazies like you around trying to separate. You guys are not special other places in Canada speak French to and have different traditions. The main unique thing about Quebec is how much of a leach they are on the government and manage to complain about it.
