Hi everyone, I am currently studying an undergraduate degree, in psychology and mental health at the university of Lincoln

For my year 2 assessment which is 60% of my final grade I need to conduct a study about motivation and year group. We have not decided on what specifics the study is going to be (thank my seminar teacher) and we also have not decided how this is going to be tested.

I need to recruit 15 people who are currently studying or have studied within the last two years in the UK.

People we need, but are NOT limited to

  • students outside of Lincoln
  • neurodivergent people
  • variety of age group
  • outside psychology
  • international students
  • men

You will have the right to withdraw at any time.

Please contact me or reply to this post if you are interested in joining my study

Research PHL - Looking for participants to interview for my psychology research

Hi! I’m currently taking a Masters in Psychology and doing a phenomenological research about the religious families affected by suicide in the Philippines.

I’m looking for online participants who are willing to have an online interview in line with this research. I need participants who are religious/from a religious family that have an immediate family member who attempted or died by suicide.

If you have someone you think can be a participant and can have this interview with me, that would be super helpful!! This research would help understand the perspectives and experiences of religious families affected by suicide and how their faith intersects with their experience.

Please comment or send a dm!!

Discussion What known twin studies have been conducted between 1980 and 1995? Does anyone remember them?

I haven't found the information that I have been looking for when looking into the research on siblings and twins that took place in these years,

when I was little.

I was there, but I don't remember what it was.

I was too little and no one I find knows what I am speaking of or remembers anything I mention.

I only have a few paystubs from my family that remind me it was real but no one can confirm this

I know I'm not crazy.

Advice Can someone critique my theoretical model?

I am working on a personal project, and would love the opinion and critiques of a professional psychologist on my attempt at a simplistic model of the human behaviour, as well as ask a few specific questions about it (around 20-30 minutes should do).

I don't want to publicly reveal the model (it's nothing special and is pretty bad, hence the need for some constructional critique), I just want it to be a secret until my project is done.

I would really appreciate a voice call over discord or something else, but over text also works. As such feel free to dm me with your preferred method of communication, your discord id if needed, and your age. Thanks!

Regarding my research sample

I'm currently pursuing MSc in Counselling Psychology from IIPR Bengaluru. Within a month, I need to submit my research proposal (quantitative). Concept note submission is done and my guide asked if I can actually manage to collect data from 100 people (50 officially diagnosed and 50 self identified). I'm trying to look at Masking, Loneliness and Identity distress among Autistic Adults. Do you think that a sample of 100 is manageable?

I also have a few questions and thoughts regarding the ethics. If you are a researcher or a mental health professional, and if you have time to talk to me about ethics, please do comment!

Advice Evolutionary psychopathology

Yo, I hands down love love research and I really love evolutionary psychology, what is a good/feasible/relevant research topic that would be selected in PhD apps in Indian University (like Nimhans). If you ask me to abandon the field due to lack of feasibility and problems with data collection while studying evolutionary problems, I know and I've already abandoned it but I really want to know in general if people have interesting ideas for research.

I am a research mentor, so it'll be fun discussion to try to see limitations and strengths of topics and relevant designs to study them.

Discussion How do i assess children?

Hi everyone! i’m in the second year of my undergrad and volunteering with a charity that teaches underprivileged children after school, providing tutoring. The organisation asked the psych kids to work with a few of the kids and “assess” them over a week so the organisation can better help them. I’ve established a pretty good rapport with the kids over three days and know quite a lot about them. I was wondering if there were any tests i could administer to better understand them. I was also hoping for general ideas on the matter bcs i’m a little lost now. Thank
you!!

Project Architecture, public spaces and mental health

Hi everyone! I’m an architecture student, and for my thesis I would like to explore how architecture and public spaces could be improved for people with anxiety, phobia, agoraphobia ...

In your experience, what features of the built environment can cause discomfort or anxiety for these people? What specific changes in architecture or public spaces could help them feel safer and more comfortable?

Any advice, research, or useful resources would be greatly appreciated.

Marshmallow test controls: what does waiting add beyond background and early skills?

Thumbnail youtube.com
1 Upvotes

One thing I wanted to get clearer in my marshmallow-test video was what the statistical controls actually tell us.

In Watts et al., the waiting–achievement association shrank by about two thirds after combined background, home-environment and early-skill adjustment in the main subgroup. That subgroup was children whose mothers hadn’t completed college. It wasn’t an income-only adjustment.

There’s a real interpretation question here. Some of those variables could be shared influences on both waiting and later achievement. Early skills could also overlap with the abilities a child uses to manage the waiting task. Accounting for them asks what waiting adds beyond those skills.

The Doebel et al. commentary discusses this issue, and another preregistered analysis of the same cohort reported links with later behavioural outcomes. Different analyses of that cohort shouldn’t be counted as independent replications, btw. The shorter task ceiling also matters when comparing it with the original studies.

I made a 7:26 explanation for The Confound. How would you explain the choice of controls to someone who only knows the popular version of the test?

Help with Research

Hi everyone!

I’m an undergraduate student currently working on my thesis which explores the motivations for people to choose AI chatbots as an alternative to traditional psychotherapy.

I am currently looking for 10 participants to take part in an interview for this research.

Who can participate?

- If you are aged 18 or above

- If you have previously attended traditional therapy and have consciously chosen to use an AI chatbot as an alternative.

What you can expect:

A one-on-one interview lasting approximately 45 to 60 minutes (conducted online via Zoom or Google Meets).

All responses will be kept strictly anonymous in the final study and any resulting reports.

The interview will be voice-recorded solely for transcription and analysis, and only with your explicit consent.

If you fit the criteria and are interested in sharing your experiences to help contribute to this research, please send me a direct message (DM) or comment below, and I will follow up with more details.

Thank you so much for your time! :)

I need research papers for Personality Disorders and disimulation in a clinical setting

Hello! I am a psychology undergraduate student in Romania, currently writing my thesis in clinical psychology on how personality disorder traits influence response distortion / dissimulation.

I am considering operationalizing dissimulation either as faking good (social desirability / defensiveness) or faking bad (symptom overreporting). Most studies I found using the PID-5 adopt an experimental simulation design: they administer the instrument under standard instructions and subsequently under a coached/faked scenario (instructing participants to present themselves in an overly favorable light or to deny pathology).

My initial idea was to compare a clinical sample against a non-clinical sample to examine group differences in dissimulation tendencies. However, I have struggled to find empirical studies using this exact between-groups design.

Could you suggest relevant literature or recommend a more feasible methodological approach? Should I stick exclusively to a clinical sample, or is a comparative / dimensional design better suited for an undergraduate thesis?"

(Looking for volunteers)

Hello! I'm a high school student creating a teen-friendly neuroscience blog called Teen Brain Explorer.

I'm developing an educational project about sleep and memory. I'd like to explore a short word-recall experiment in which participants complete a memory task and, if appropriate, a follow-up test the next day. I'd hope to analyze anonymous scores and explain the findings and limitations in a blog article.

Would your community allow a student-led project like this to recruit participants? I would be especially interested in whether participation by minors is permitted and what requirements I should meet before posting.

I will follow your community rules and obtain appropriate guidance and permissions before collecting data.

Thank you for your time!

General Question Is it okay to use a 5-point Likert scale and a 6-point Likert scale in different sections of the same questionnaire?

Hi! I’m an undergraduate student currently working on our research, and I’d like to ask for advice regarding our questionnaire.

Our questionnaire has two independent sections that measure different constructs:

Behavior - 5-point Likert scale

(Never-Always)

Perception - 6-point Likert scale

(Strongly Disagree-Strongly Agree)

These are separate constructs, and we are not planning to combine them into one overall score or compare/correlate the two scales. We simply want to analyze and interpret each section separately.

So my question is: is it statistically/methodologically acceptable to have different Likert scales in different sections of the same questionnaire, when the sections measure independent constructs and each section has its own separate computation and interpretation?

Thank you!
