Discussion I’ve Tried Everything

Update on the dogs that are evacuated in West Texas. I’ve contacted the local Sheriff, Animal Control, the THLN, PETA, and the sheriff department has seen these dogs in person with their own eyes. The department is claiming these dogs are not malnourished, however would need to go to the vet if they were to be seized, implying that they’re ill and skinny. I have emailed the THLN about our law enforcement taking a class to earn a TCOLE credit and learn more about animal welfare, but this matter cannot wait, these dogs are dying!!! I am calling the Game Warden today to see if they can assist in any capacity. We also have people calling the sheriff consistently to try to persuade them. Thanks for reading. If you have any advice, please let me know. I did email and call each link and phone number listed in my previous post. I am only posting the update here because it seems that my updates are not being seen on the post and I keep getting similar suggestions. I need new options to try to save these babies.

UGH, I meant EMACIATED in my first sentence. I apologize.

I’m still somewhat new to Reddit and learned that I can’t edit things after posting. I will keep this in mind in the future.

Do you have social media like Twitter where you can tag news organisations and everyone you mentioned above?

3

I don’t have Twitter. I have everything else :/

Tag them with what you have! Put the links here so we can boost those posts!

Lubbock, TX. I will try but these look like Pitt mixes. The rest are other colors.

Try project freedom ride. They have a ton of resources and their TX operations are based out of Lubbock. Thank you for trying to help these pups.

PFR can only help if we get the dogs into someone else’s custody. They won’t transport any dog in this condition unfortunately. They have strict requirements and aren’t officials that have the ability to seize the dogs.

5

u/hellothrowaway1576 Nov 07 '25

Gotcha. Sorry, didn’t realize that. Hope something works out…

Post in your town’s subreddit or whatever neighborhood thing you have. Maybe try a local church(you never know family connections)

I tried to post on Texas subreddit. You may want to post in r/asklawyers. You may get someone from the area.

29

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '25

If you steal them…. Nobody would fault you…

41

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

They’re barricaded in a yard, on a private road with only two houses. Our community has a high crime rate and everyone owns a gun. I worry for my own safety if I were to do that, and I have over 20 animals at home that wouldn’t have a place to go if I were arrested or injured.

26

u/LeatherUsual26 Nov 07 '25

Do you have a city council? Contact every single member. Tell them how unresponsive law enforcement is being. Contact your state representative(s) and federal representatives; the fed level reps especially should be desperate for good press.

11

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

Will do! Thank you!

7

u/turquoise_amethyst Nov 07 '25

How did you get close enough to get the photos?

Do you think these people would willingly give you any digs if you asked? Or trade? (Don’t offer any money)

3

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

The Facebook post made my her SIL, I screenshotted the dog before it was deleted. I’ve offered money, I’ve offered dog food, she blocked me.

6

u/I-reddit-once Nov 07 '25

Lotta people in rural TX that have night vision and love pooches.. just saying. I would do this sort of thing just for the pooch and to help someone out who cares.

..theoretically

6

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

Then I need to find those people.

2

u/I-reddit-once Nov 07 '25

If I were in the area, or even the state, I'd be so happy to facilitate such a rescue

u/SherbertSensitive538 Nov 07 '25

I would try the local news station. I’m surprised that peta is not all over this.

83

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

They’re investigating what they can for now. I’m unsure if they’re coming to our county to check it out physically.

57

u/DrGlizzenstein Nov 07 '25

Don't forget Peta puts down a gross majority of the dogs that they take in.

If you give him to Peta they're as good as dead .

6

u/SherbertSensitive538 Nov 07 '25

I do know that about some divisions of peta but I’m just surprised that they didn’t swoop down in it.

20

u/Mammoth_Effective_68 Nov 07 '25

Sadly, I believe this to be true. PETA does a euthanize.

PETA operates a shelter in Norfolk, VA, where they have euthanized a very high percentage of animals (often over 80% in some years).

They claim these animals are unadoptable, suffering, or already rejected by society, but many critics believe PETA hasn’t tried hard enough to rehome them.

This has led to them being labeled “hypocrites” by both animal lovers and the no-kill movement.

19

u/Impressive-Rest-5282 Nov 07 '25

PETA is absolute shit. Local human societies are the way IMO!

1

u/Lavendertarantula Nov 10 '25

After Peta released lobsters into freshwater, I knew they did not understand animal welfare.

6

u/HoneyLocust1 Nov 08 '25 edited Nov 08 '25

The hypocrites are a certain sect of the no kill movement. I've worked in rescue long enough, the issue isn't the euthanasia of homeless and unwanted dogs, it's the culture in some areas to not spay/neuter and let intact animals roam, it's those accidental litters in poor areas that have poor infrastructure to house these animals, and then the shitty BYBs who try to cash in on people's desires for puppies. A refusal to kill for space can end in people being turned away from shelters that are too full to take on more, which ends in dogs getting dumped by the side of a road. The rescues end up at capacity and then pressure to avoid even behavioral euthanasias forces them to consider adopting out dogs with behavioral issues (bite histories, aggression) that probably should have been euthanized.

If PETA takes on bad cases like they claim and euthanizes them, and then even with those thousands and thousands of euthanasias we are still struggling SO badly right now to get dogs out of the southern shelters and off southern streets and into homes, then PETA isn't the problem.

4

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 08 '25

THANK YOU!

1

u/SaveDoggies1000 Nov 09 '25

Not true!   The city shelters were gassing the dogs in gas chambers and PETA took them to give them a humane euthanasia.  Get your facts straight.

16

u/Belviathan Nov 07 '25

PETA would literally just euthanize the dogs. Do not trust their propaganda.

9

u/Annual_Crow4215 Nov 07 '25

PETA is HORRIBLE organization. They will euthanized the dogs. Especially if they suspect it’s anything to do with a pit.

They have the highest kill rate shelters. Former volunteers would talk bout how kennels were empty but trash cans were full

1

u/International_Pin912 Nov 09 '25

PETA is an evil organization. I've been watching them for the 40 plus years... Not a good choice

1

u/SaveDoggies1000 Nov 10 '25

They were giving a humane euthanasia by injection rather than dogs and cats being put in gas chambers.  Love them or hate them, that is the truth.

8

u/athanathios Nov 07 '25

You can ask the owner or send them a note offering to take the dogs off their hands

14

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

The owner blocked me when I offered to pay her for the dogs.

6

u/athanathios Nov 07 '25

Sorry about that, go to the media I'd say

9

u/KaleidoscopeReady839 Nov 07 '25

We could do amass calling on PETA. Maybe if they know someone's watching they'd get in gear! But we'd need an address for in that and that would be doxxing. 😞

3

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

I’m absolutely willing to do so. Private message me if you’re on board.

2

u/Maidenofthesummer Nov 09 '25

Please feel free to message me, I can make some calls, too!

7

u/sweetfruitloops Nov 07 '25

I’m so sorry- I know this is not a permanent solution but sneaking in food and water for them if possible? :( how sad, i genuinely have no idea what to do in that situation

3

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

The road they’re on is private and there are only two houses. The dogs are barricaded in a strange looking yard in the back of their house.

5

u/LeatherUsual26 Nov 07 '25

Is it possible to throw kibble over a fence line? I have resorted to such when I couldn’t put my hands on a starving dog.

6

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

I wish it were possible, but this barricade is several feet wide. It has farm animals in the pens around the dogs.

25

u/bigdaddynaa Nov 07 '25

Can you provide us a write up of the details about the dogs condition, the condition of the property, any relevant details about the owner, etc? I would be happy to write in to these various groups and keep complaining - if many of us reach out to complain they might be more inclined to act to get us off their back.

10

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

Absolutely, please private message me and I’ll send over details.

2

u/AntCompetitive9863 Nov 10 '25

Hey is it possible to reach out to a NGO for animal rights and ethics to figure out if a Lawyer can take part in this horrible situation?

1

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 10 '25

Please excuse my unknowing, what is NGO?

2

u/AntCompetitive9863 Nov 10 '25

Non profit organization :)

1

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 10 '25

I have been working on that! We haven’t made any progress yet though unfortunately.

1

u/AntCompetitive9863 Nov 10 '25

Let's see if I can look up something online. Is it in Texas right?

1

u/Maidenofthesummer Nov 09 '25

Piggybacking off of this to ask if you could PM me, too? I would like to help in writing to these groups as well!

100

u/Butterfly_Gardener Nov 07 '25

One more suggestion - contact Paul Mueller. He has an Instagram and is a journalist. He covers stories like these. His work in south Texas has helped save many dogs and shine a light on law enforcement. Thank you for working so hard to help these dogs!

52

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

Thank you so much! I’m at the vet with a cat, but I’ll do that when I’m home and settled. I’ve been doing this nonstop all week, so my chores are a bit behind.

10

u/Lumpy-Armadillo1341 Nov 07 '25

I would be willing to fo foster these dogs and help them get back to health. You may not be able to get any attention with law-enforcement however, you know these dogs need food and they need water at least go over there and give them some food and water they’re gonna be ravenous they need small meals often the food in the water will hopefully tie them over as well till they can finally get some help you can DM me I’m willing to do anything I can to help these animals.

7

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

The property is unsafe for me to feed the dogs, people shoot and ask questions later here, the house is on a private road with two homes on it, and the dogs are barricaded behind the house. Unfortunately, the fate of the dogs may be out of my hands as PETA has gotten involved. I had no other choice. I’ve emailed every city council representative, contacted the THLN, and multiple calls have been made to the sheriff today. If I can get the dogs surrendered to my care, I will let you know, but legally it won’t be up to me.

5

u/Lumpy-Armadillo1341 Nov 07 '25

I’m not surprised peta is not all over this. They seem to be more of just a political Avenue and not quite a full rescue. The amount of money that they keep in their/fund is more than enough money to help many animals that’s why I no longer donate to peta and I do smaller rescues however, did you call the Humane Society? Do you have one in your area? Please go over and give them some food though please

2

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

PETA is involved, but I don’t know if they will take action. Our humane society closed and the one I contact said to contact the authorities.

2

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

Contacted*

2

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

It is 1000000% unsafe and puts my life at risk to feed the dogs. I’m sorry, but I can’t. I have 20+ animals that would have nowhere to go if I get harmed or arrested. The dogs are barricaded behind their house on a private road with only one other home on it. West Texas isn’t the place to wander on properties in the middle of nowhere.

3

u/Lumpy-Armadillo1341 Nov 07 '25

I’ve got an idea. Ask to buy the dogs. See if they’ll sell them to you if they’re not feeding them the money might be something that they want.

6

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

I’ve asked to purchase the dogs for a large sum of money and the owner blocked me.

7

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

I also offered to bring dog food. It was a no go.

6

u/Senior_Trick_7473 Nov 07 '25

Hey, can you reach out to One Tail at A Time? They are located in West Texas. This is where my dog was transported from, and this dog looks identical to mine.

4

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

4

u/I-reddit-once Nov 07 '25

When reason is unable to prevail, we must be unreasonable

Sometimes the vigilante in me just wants to break all the laws for the greater good.

Sometimes its worth it

2

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

It can be, but my animals at home wouldn’t survive without me. I’m the only one to care for them

2

u/I-reddit-once Nov 08 '25

I get it. Im just a passionate (and sometimes impulsive) person

2

u/SparkleTkay1230 Nov 07 '25

Have you talked to the owners? Ask if they need help?? Many can be persuaded to give up their pets, or maybe they just need food?

2

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

I have. Offered dog food once, it was a no. Offered money and it was a no. :/

2

u/undertheradar317 Nov 07 '25

Can you show the sheriff a body condition chart?

1

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 07 '25

We have showed him the body score of 2 out of 9.

2

u/Impressive-Rest-5282 Nov 07 '25

wtf!!!? This is disgusting and unacceptable!!!

3

u/Senior_Trick_7473 Nov 07 '25 edited Nov 08 '25

It seems like this “owner” takes pleasure in torturing animals. If she actually loved these dogs she would reach out for help and assistance. She denied your help, and is refusing to give them up. She’s sick and I hope she rots in hell.

2

u/w00f-w00ff Nov 08 '25

POST IN LOCAL ANIMAL FB GROUPS WITH THE ADDRESS !!! This is the ONLY thing I’ve seen work in this situation. Someone will steal them

3

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 08 '25

I don’t want to be targeted by law enforcement for posting an address, but her name is public. They can do with that what they will because she was easy to find.

1

u/mad0666 Nov 08 '25

Do you mean the western part of Texas or in West, Texas?

2

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 08 '25

Lubbock County

2

u/mad0666 Nov 08 '25

I would suggest contacting larger rescues across Texas, they might have better resources to guide you for next steps. Maybe Austin Pets Alive or something like that might have a network and can connect you with people out there?

3

u/HollyannO Nov 08 '25

Post names of officers and and other officials who said they were not malnourished. Name em!!!

The ASPCA deploys volunteers nationally to intervene in situations like this. Their website says they partner with some Texas organizations as well. ASPCA is based in NYC, but maybe there is an SPCA in Texas that can help here. Good luck and keep us posted!

Doubt it will help but I messaged your city (Lubbock) and put in an animal cruelty request stating that this news has made its way to my home town of Toronto, Canada. Hoping that they do something if it is gaining attention. I hope something comes of it. I wish you the best of luck. Thank you for trying!!

2

You are a blessing. Thank you so much for your efforts to help these sweet babies! It is greatly appreciated.

If I get a response back I’ll keep you posted. It’s all I can do for now from Canada. Thank you ❤️

2

u/CantUteLLimPlayN Nov 09 '25

A Michelle Bowman replied back to me and told me to message the animal control center for Shallowwater, Texas for animal cruelty because it’s out of their jurisdiction. I did so and posted your Reddit post, Facebook post and my original post to Lubbock, Texas to them. Again, I told them that this post has reached it way to Canada. Hoping that they will act on it cause the news it’s making its way around.

u/thismothafcka Nov 09 '25

Don't let PETA get involved. They will automatically euthanize these types of dogs. You need a local animal rescue or shelter and local police.

1

u/CablePuzzleheaded255 Rescue Parent Nov 09 '25

I’ve contacted every rescue, local PD and LSO. If it’s the difference between these dogs having an incredibly painful and lonely death or having a peaceful one, it’s what we have to do. Our law enforcement doesn’t care, our rescues don’t have jurisdiction. I have an obligation to do everything in my power to ensure these dogs are not suffering, and they will suffer until something is done. Wasn’t a choice. Had to contact every source possible to help get them away from this POS n

2

u/thismothafcka Nov 09 '25

I understand what you are saying. It sucks that not all states have specific law enforcement that caters to animals. I know that here in NY, most counties have specific branches of their police department dedicated to helping animals.

1

Texas is really, really rough. I’m trying to seriously change things here, but it will take time, documentation, and a lot of voices.. I do have some people trying to help us get the dogs seized and into my care so they can get medical attention. We just don’t know if it’ll all work out… I only got news about that yesterday and haven’t posted an update about it because it’s so up in the air. Everything is. I feel so stuck.

I feel so bad for you and those animals. It's not fair for them to be treated so poorly. I'm the proud parent of 3 rescues, 2 dogs and a kitten that is literally the gate keeper of hell, so I get why you fight so hard.

Not to mention I’ve contacted the THLN, New York Bully Rescues, I’ve emailed every city representative and our mayor.

They have been here for 7 days in this condition now. I am not going to allow them to suffer if I had the power to make a call to help them get out.

why don't you go in and take them?

Why don’t you? My name is tied to this legally and all over the media. I care for over 20 animals daily and am their only caretaker. If I get arrested or shot (West Texas), the animals here have nowhere to go and my whole mission is for nothing.

i wish i could :( heartbreaking no one besides you is trying to do anything to help them. it's a sick world we live in.

I’m not advocating that op reaches out to peta. I’m commenting that I’m surprised that peta didn’t get wind of it in order to capitalize on it for their cause. I’m well aware that they have become a fanatical group.

They act like I wanted to reach out to PETA. Quite frankly, being put down is WAY better than what they’re experiencing right now. That’s why I decided to go ahead and make that call.

I’m not a PETA supporter in the slightest and had their pages blocked until this happened. But people will give backlash no matter what you do. You can’t make everyone happy. All I care about is making sure those dogs don’t starve and freeze to death.

I understand I feel and do the same. Good luck. 🍀

What in fuck is wrong with people? This fog is starving to death. Are they stupid or just mean and abusive? Either way, I hope someone finds a way to help even if it involves going there, in the dead of night, and stealing that dog. Those people are beyond redemption for abusing this dog and I fricking despise them.

The Tulsa Humane Society is always off to other states to rescue dogs like this. They have a big bus fitted with kennels. You may try reaching out. Cathy Bissell is a big supporter of various dog rescues and spends considerable time in Louisiana. Her organization is the Bissell Pet Foundation.
