News - J-Mod reply API Project Check-In

https://rs.game/APICheckInJune

Hey 'Scapers

We're just over half-way through the year now and we wanted to provide a little insight into a project that has been cooking for most of that time...

the API project!

While this is one of the most anticipated projects of the year, we are keen to ensure that it gets its true hype moment when the time it right, so we're not going to spoil too much today... consider today as more of a peek behind the curtain rather than a preview of flashy plugins!

Read more on the blog here!

One of the best parts of plugins in RuneLite/OSRS are the fact that literally anyone can have a plugin idea, start developing and testing locally, and then push it up to be available to anyone.

My biggest question is whether or not you are going to allow the same openness with the RS3 Plugin API? Will I be able to just check out the docs and start developing locally or is there some other gate that would prevent the masses from creating a plugin from day one?

u/JagexAnvil Mod Anvil Jun 18 '26

The idea is that YES - anyone should have the necessary tools and knowledge base to start creating something cool. That's what I want Mod Fable to strongly focus on in the coming period - building out that rock-solid tutorialization.

If we can get to a place where a scrub like me can go through the tech documentation and understand what I'd need to do to make a plugin, then we should be golden.

However, when it comes to bringing plugins "online" and available to the wider playerbase, they will need to be vetted via our dedicated Plugin Moderator to ensure they adhere to our guidelines and principles. That being said, I very much expect that the Moderator will be working with developers to help them understand how to many their plugins safe, effective and useful. They should not be a "computer says no" gatekeeper.

I hope you guys have a team in place to audit the plugins people make. The grass looks green but many other MMOs and MOBAs struggle to regulate cheat plugins and things that aren't healthy for the game

u/JagexAnvil Mod Anvil Jun 18 '26

That's the Plugin Moderator position that we're currently hiring.

Just the other day on OSRS we had a plugin that minimizes the client when you click get removed due to a high level player using it to abuse alts during sailing, to the point it looked like multiboxing and led to his temp ban.

2

u/BloodyFool Jun 18 '26

Yeah I just saw some follow up posts about the incident. My point still stands though that OSRS gets some plugins that slip through the cracks from time to time that are definitely way too up (like the one that would call out prayers a while ago).

u/VoidAdept Still on £3.20/Month. Jun 18 '26

The best way I can see this working is that you host a permanent testing server, akin to a beta server, where players can sandbox plugin development before submission into the store.

2

u/JagexAnvil Mod Anvil Jun 18 '26

We currently are using a beta environment for our existing community dev partners to do just that.

I'm unsure whether that will be maintained in its current form for full launch, but it would make sense.

2

u/5noww Jun 18 '26

I cannot emphasise enough this will literally make me play RS3 as an OSRS player, bloody love the initiative to make this better!

3

u/QoLTech Jun 18 '26

I think it's obvious we need moderation when it comes to publishing plugins! I just want to make sure that there's nothing stopping a random person from just starting to develop one at least locally. If there's some approval process or permission that needs to be granted in order to develop locally, I think that would put a ton of people off before they even get started.

+1 on this, my interest is usually driven off of ideas and implementing those ideas for the game I love.

95

u/JagexAnvil Mod Anvil Jun 18 '26

Now is a great time to help guide the API project towards realising the plugin ideas or functionality you've always imagined. We expect the obligatory quest helper plugin requests, but are there any ideas beyond that which you've either seen elsewhere or are only dreaming of yourself (bearing the principles in the blog in mind)?

We'd love to hear what's on your mind, as this will help ensure that our developers and partners can be mindful of the ideas that the community is most excited about.

Let's hear it then!

Some sort of plugin that'll tell me what items in my bank I can actually discard or need for a quest that hasn't been completed.

The wise old man is basically useless at this right now

37

u/angrynuggette Jun 18 '26

I would love to be able to clean out my bank and not risk getting rid of anything vital.

True tile marker for character and NPC, Menu entry swapper, drop log, clue solver, xp/h calc, afk timers (farming), right-click wiki

u/Kaveri3 Ironman Jun 18 '26

Honestly quest helper, menu entry swapper and tile markers are the big three for me.

Since we're taking from Alt-1, a more accurate AFKwarden is on my list.

I actually find clue trainer (not part of base alt1) to already be better than osrs's clue plugins in some regards. We basically just need that with tile highlights for digs and scans and we'd easily have the superior clue plugin imo.

Agility course markers would be nice. I've been doing the dino course for codex pages and annoyed when I mis-click

7

u/iclick_a_lot Jun 18 '26

I had a problem with this too. Then I discovered high-contrast mode and now it’s easier to see anything that’s clickable.

If you don’t know about it, right-click one of the bubbles in the corners of the map.

16

u/Wretched_Hunter Jun 18 '26

If you don't like seeing the world in all grey you can use accessibility options to add a color to all interactable entities instead.

Accessibility - > Visual Accessibility - > High Contrast Mode - > Entitity Highlight Mode, then change it to Always On

The ones I didn't provide a link for are default plugins.

Menu Entry Swapper to swap the default left and shift-click of items and npcs combined with compatibility with items dragged to the action bar would be GAME. CHANGING.

I’d like something that helps me work through completing archaeology collections, keep track of the materials needed for a shopping list of damaged artefacts, and a better way to look up where to get materials from.

I already made a website to help with this, but there’s something nice about not needing to leave the client and having that information at your fingertips.

—

I’d also like some kind of stock control around herblore: I want to have X, Y, and Z amounts of potions in stock, and therefore I need this shopping list of items. If the plugin API can expose the bank amounts, that solves a lot of the awful data entry needed to keep stock amounts up to date.

I already have a spreadsheet for managing this, but it’s out of date as soon as I take a sip of something.

—

I love programming and making tools, so I can’t wait to get my hands dirty with the API when it becomes more generally available :))

If plugins are only coming through Jagex — which allows you to control what can and cannot be used — how does development work? Will we be limited to developing on a dedicated development client with separate development worlds? Or can we just use whatever the new client is? I expect that wouldn’t fly because then people could send plugins to each other that aren’t verified?

I expect we’ll hear more about it down the road, but my curiosity burns brightly c:

5

u/CrazySnipah Jun 18 '26

Shopping list of materials would be great!

Tile marker + clue scroll helper pls god pls

37

u/ironreddeath Jun 18 '26

Looking at osrs for inspiration

  • menu entity swapper
  • tile markers
  • quest helper
  • clue solver
  • upgraded teleport interfaces instead of just a text menu of options
  • idle notifications to help with afk/second monitor game play
  • better buff and debuff bars
  • various timers like for farm runs so we can know when our patches are grown before starting a farm run
  • tool tip improvements like potion recipes on hover within banks (especially if you can hotkey the tooltip)

8

u/JD0064 Guthix Jun 18 '26

Maybe something that can help me minimize my screen upon clicking on something /s

2

u/SUMBWEDY Jun 19 '26

Cap it at 7 interactions per second though so Ayiza can't ban us for clicking 8 times.

35

u/Vet_Leeber Tainted '01 Jun 18 '26

A big one for me, personally, would be a way to change which action an item placed on a hotbar triggers.

As a random example, the Archaeology Journal. Even though there's a right-click teleport option on the item itself, if you keybind it you have to click the keybind twice (once to equip first, then once to teleport).

Being able to create a plugin that changes which action happens on action-bar keybind activation would be a gamechanger for a bunch of niche use cases.

Realistically speaking, this would just be an extention of the Menu Entry Swapper.

So I guess all I'm really asking for is for the MES plugin to also be able to swap the Action Bar options.

On a completely different vein: There's a plugin on OSRS that collapses any duplicate chat message, and it works so well that I generally don't play on Filtered mode anymore. Would be a godsend to have that in RS3 as well.

It takes messages like:

  • Nothing interesting happens.

  • Nothing interesting happens.

  • Nothing interesting happens.

and collapses it into

  • Nothing interesting happens. (3)

So allowing us access to manipulate the chat box would be amazing.

15

u/Spider-Thwip Jun 18 '26

Quest helper is a big one.

17

u/Whistler1998 Jun 18 '26

Something like the alt1 job gauges would be sick, where I can keep track of necro stacks and certain abilities that aren’t in the buff/debuff ui area as it gets cluttered sometimes

2

u/bobly81 Jun 18 '26

Literally anything to clean up the buff/debuff bar and move actually important information off of it would be huge.

14

u/Quick_Accountant_381 Jun 18 '26

Because of how fundamentally different RS3 combat is to OSRS, i think RS3 might benefit a LOT from having access to (simple) combat related API calls, allowing access to buff bar states and ability cooldown states could help a great deal in designing "job gauges" such as the ones alt1 already has access to.

Similarly, access to the states of 2d elements and the ability to hide certain 2d elements such as overhead prayers, necromancy soul stacks and possibly HP/necro summon duration bars, as well as hitsplats could allow for plugins to be made to design alternative ways to display all these things, hopefully to assist decluttering and improving visibility within the 3d game world during combat.

11

u/SkeletalPidgey Jun 18 '26

I would love to see a archaeology artifact restoration plugin, something that would tell you how many of each material you need to restore all of your artifacts would be great. Bonus points for taking into account resources already in your Material Storage or bank. On a similar vein, I've been playing an Iron-man for a few months now, and a plugin to track what I need to craft a load of items, for example when I did Mining and Smithing I mined all of the ore, then made all of the bars, then smithed them all. Some kind of crafting progress tree would be really nice for keeping track of how far towards a goal you were. I would love to be able to inspect the Bank, Material Storage, Metal Bank, etc. Hell I'd have a go at making those plugins if this were available in the API

11

u/LordOscar8 Jun 18 '26

One that I haven't seen is dive/surge range and direction. Being able to see where is the max range of dive so I don't go in a random direction, or being able to see where I can dive to

Clue solver......

9

u/Coromant Jun 18 '26

Clue solver!

8

u/Bio_slayer Jun 18 '26

Configurable larger persistent buff timer list. I want to see my overload timer at all times, even after it's out, clearly and consistently in the same spot. Like a boss timer.

Clue solver of course.

Rotation helper, with awareness of boss phases. Would help as training wheels for certian bosses.

Artifact repair profitability calculator. I want to be able to look at 100 damaged artifacts and be told instantly how much I would profit (or lose) repairing them, disassembling them into components, and selling them.

Skilling pet drop data gatherer... opt in system that tracks various actions and pets dropped by them... we WILL get to the bottom of how Bernie's drop mechanics work, even if you guys won't tell us lmao.

23

u/KobraTheKing Jun 18 '26

I want a Timeline Enforcer plugin.

One that hides certain parts of the worlds and npcs until certain quests are done. OSRS has entity hider so I'm hopeful something like that can happen in some version.

Haven't done World Wakes? No 6th age quest starts visible. Haven't done City of Senntisten? Sorry, you can't interact with the entrance to Senntisten. And so on.

Very niche but would be great.

14

u/Mysterra Jun 18 '26

This is too big of a barrier for new players anyway, instead of band-aids like that it's time jagex have an official think about how to address the egregious 5th age/6th age split issue

2

u/Aleucard Jun 19 '26

They painted themselves into a massive corner by putting so much useful unlocks in the 6th age bucket here. I don't think there's a satisfying way to get them out of it before rs4 unless they move those rewards to something more timeline agnostic and just give those an exp or drop rate booster or something.

Being able to see true tiles would single handedly get me into high level PVM. Remove the guesswork from character and NPC movement!

8

u/Redxmirage Jun 18 '26

Bank sorting (apologies, I don’t remember the exact name)

Haven’t seen this mentioned yet but it is very nice to be able to drag and move your items around to organize it how you want without the restrictions of the base game bank. For example I can make a column of gear for a “melee gear set” without having to fill in every spot to make the column work. Also gives you more custom tags and grouping for even more organization

5

u/Visible_Fan_3339 Jun 18 '26

Besides the usual 3-4 like clue solver, tile markers etc I'd really like the ability to develop and customize a combat UI to track ability cooldowns, buffs and debuffs a lot easier than in the current game.

The current Alt1 Plugin "JobGauges" does this currently but having more accurate official support for it would be a game changer.

5

u/Komrad824 Jun 18 '26

Buff indicators. Something to tell me "hey, a random proc has occurred!" Current alt one is so hit or miss with it. Theres so many procs that are chance based but only up for a small window, that if i focus too hard on the buff bar i die to mechanics or lose out on dps that i coulda easily done with just a sound cue.

14

u/5-x RSN: Follow Jun 18 '26

Tile markers, obviously.

I also want an option to collapse duplicate chat messages and append them with a number of how many times that message was printed.

OSRS also has a great plugin for roof removal options (on-hover, depending on player position, roof between camera and player, removing roof over destination tile, remove roofs in POH, etc.)

10

u/_Survivor_ Jun 18 '26

Majorly agree with the roof removal plugin. It's so nice to be able to see the full buildings properly and dynamically see inside them

u/Mat2113 IGN: Mat2113 Jun 18 '26

Something that gives an enhanced UI overlay for things like Necro stacks, like the JobGauges plugin in Alt-1

6

u/SnappySausage Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

Hopefully this avoids some of the suggestions others have given:

  • Minigame/activity helpers
  • object/NPC markers
  • Something that gives more control over what sounds you can hear.

I'll go a bit more fun focused for my answer, the Prop Hunt Plugin on RuneLite is one of my favourites things to mess around with while with my friends, so the ability to locally change your display model (and for those also using the Plugin) would be great (essential: it must support becoming a "environment" prop)

Tile marker and Damage breakdown plugins are my most anticipated ones, I enjoy seeing my rotational damage breakdowns and seeing how much an upgrade or an ability makes up my total damage output just for theorycrafting and optimizations purposes

4

u/Redxmirage Jun 18 '26

OSRS true tile plugin is very nice to know where you are in related to the tick server versus showing where you are client side. Helps with dodging mechanics and such. I don’t think this needs to be a plug in but rather an option in base game settings but either would be very welcomed!

3

u/Charizard_YRs Jun 18 '26

Menu entry swapper, true tile for both us and mobs (super important!!!, watching a mob 5 tiles away from me hitting me is ridiculous), tile markers.

4

u/Byrand-YT Completionist Jun 18 '26

Having plug ins to enable modes like tile-man, task locked, region locked, etc. are definitely up there as it would create new ways to play the game.

4

u/DragonZaid Jun 18 '26

An ability tracker plugin! This would be a small window or overlay in the game window. Each time you use an ability (or eat food, swap gear, activate an inventory item, etc), an icon for that action appears. This shows the order and timing the player used for abilities in the last few seconds, which is great for streaming, videos, and screen sharing. It can be very difficult to parse what exactly a player is doing in combat withouy something like this, even for veterans. There are options for this that already exist out there, but they are either paid services or don't work very well, so it'd be great to have plugin support for this!

19

u/MegaManZer0 Completionist Jun 18 '26

As someone who still uses revolution, I'd love some manual bar guidance. Like it tells me what keys to press for optimal manual ability usage to help with some speed kills.

15

u/strawhat068 Jun 18 '26

What's funny is I have developed this kind of app, but before I released it I spoke to some of the mods and they said no because of how I achieved it, Instead of using screen reading I used memory reading, which some of the mods told me was a major grey area and advised me to not release it.

Think of it like the addon from wow were it tells you what ability you should use. It did the same thing.

The reason I went with memory reading vs screen reading was the update time. Their is too much of a delay and unreliability with it.

5

u/Turbulent-You2987 Jun 18 '26

Sounds like you should be trying to get on the team for this plug in development

11

u/strawhat068 Jun 18 '26

I did apply and sent them examples of work I have done and the fact that they are going with lua(the same language used for wow addons) I'm surprised they didn't accept me, but that's ok once I can get in I have a lot of plans I have a lot of experience with lua from wow

4

u/finH1 Archaeology Jun 18 '26

Even something like in FFXIV where when you’re in a combo it highlights the next combo spell.

Then expanding that having the option to create/share “presets” since I know there’s no fixed combos in rs3 but being able to say oh when I use X spell highlight spell Y so I know to use that next would really help with learning manual

5

u/srbman maxed main: 2015/09/28, comped iron: 2024/04/02 Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

Some ideas I've had for a while:

  1. Skills list re-sort - The current skills window only works in 3 columns (and just barely), because that's what it was like in RS2. I'd like to be able to move the skills around regardless of the number of columns (like putting Necromancy up with the rest of the combat skills).
  2. Artisan skill wishlist - Something like this but in-game and for any crafts.
  3. UI customization - Different skins/colors, transparency, floating abilities, etc.
  4. Combat HUDs - Similar to Nadya's BetterBuffBars and Necro Job Gauge Alt-1 plugins
  5. Unified Collection Log - Please?

I've also got a question: If specific plugins become popular enough, could they be implemented directly into the game, or be made a default for new players? To use my own suggestions as an example, the UCL, HUDs, and interface skins feel like something Jagex could add directly to the game without requiring players to find the corresponding plugins.

Final Fantasy XIV has been doing this a lot recently. They don't have officially-supported plugins, but the developers at Square are aware of what people use plugins for, so they've been adding some of the (harmless) plugins directly into their game.

2

u/Capsfan6 July 22 2017 Jun 18 '26

To be fair unified collection log is something Jagex needs to actually make, we shouldn't have to rely on a plugin for it

2

u/srbman maxed main: 2015/09/28, comped iron: 2024/04/02 Jun 18 '26

Absolutely, but it's been "on the radar" for like 3 years. At this point the players are likely to get it made sooner.

3

u/Apprehensive_Heron17 Jun 18 '26

I'm a big Path of Exile fan and the have a very powerful API for their game it allows you to copy paste items and price check them it also allows you to scrape you stash this allows for a number of tools to be used one is a price checker that will just look at your bank and tell you what big ticket items you have, say you have a bunch of Elder Logs buried in a tab you forgot about worth a couple 100M

3

u/SlashStar Guthix Jun 18 '26

I only play RS3 regularly, but I had a great time playing OSRS for an Archipelago randomizer (www.archipelago.gg). That heavily relied on greying out locked chunks. It also prevents you from equipping gear that hasn't yet been unlocked by the randomizer. I would love to enable that in RS3 as well.

If the plugin was capable of preventing clicks in locked chunks, that would be excellent but not important. The OSRS version does not have that functionality.

If we could get a Dps meter like WoW's Details! Addon, I would be really happy. That would help a lot of people to see others' damage and rotation, compare gear and basicly just see how you can improve yourself.

A plugin that can see to your bank, sorting it out, deleting junks etc would help a lot of people. I know something similar exists ingame, but we all know it's not all that useful.

Also any plugins that helps you handle G.E. or allows interface customisation (to modify that ugly brown interface) is a big yes.

3

u/StrudesRS Jun 18 '26

Swapping left and right click options for items/NPCs/etc., but I think importantly for RS3 this needs to also apply to things that can be put on the ability bar. Would love to finally be able to change auto-cast spells without having to right click the spell during combat.

3

u/V1_2012 Jun 18 '26

Shift-click to walk here. Basically you hold shift, and it replaces left-click options (ie: attacking a monster) with walk here. Think walking under a big npc like Vorago.

9

u/Alan-Foster Jun 18 '26

The team at Alt1 Toolkit work so dang hard, I hope the API team is familiar with their work and can find ways to support their excellent free tools.

Since the UI update most of the text recognition for custom UI overlays has been knocked out of commission. They could definitely use some help!

4

u/badmancatcher Jun 18 '26

Some kind of overlay for rotations kind of like how it is on pvme, with the addition to displaying with our keybind. Example:

[Ability] [keybind: q] > [Ability] [keybind: w] > [Ability] [keybind: e] > etc.

Also an idle notifier! Low prayer, idle animation, low hp, rare drop. Etc.

Notifier on stack caps such as arrows, or that theyre about to run out. Options to individually resize them so I can fill my screen with bolg stacks.

Notifier if ovls, vulnerability, smoke cloud, weapon poison etc is about to run out.

Inbuilt xp calculator to goal xp/level milestone.

Supplies cost per hour (or even kill) calculator.

Object highlighter (would be amazing for heists).

Dailies/farming flashy box thing.

Chat Notifier.

Audio file replacer.

A plug in that details more precisely where a hit splat came from (god book, aftershock, familiar, etc.)

2

Shortest path plugin would be huge. There are so many random locations players may want to visit or many locations with 50 different ways to reach them, and the only way to know (while limited to only the game client) one of the best is to remember hundreds of teleports and to estimate the distance to where you want to go.

2

u/EskwyreX IGN: Baxcalibre Jun 18 '26

BankedEXP like the osrs plugin, that takes what raw resources you have in your bank, and spits out how much banked exp you have, and how many secondaries/whatever you need. Love this plugin on osrs.

2

Clue scroll helper would be great!

Improved free cam - able to use free cam during combat

Improvement of clue trainer for clue solving

Wiki sync when looking up things so the items automatically tick off

Bank tabs and total bank value shown in the bank window

If I think of more I'll add em here

Not a wish to see, but a wish to create;

I have made accessibility tools in the past, although they were never good enough in my opinion to release (it involved enlarged text in game, but reliably reading text became more difficult with the June 2023 changes to the dialogue interface). I hope the API - if and when I get approved - will enable me to continue this project. Adding TTS is a thing that I've been playing around with as well, but can become quite expensive with a lot of users.

I would love it if I could override the UI colour scheme and build my own custom designs for it, but I think that is out of the current scope? Regardless, it would be a wish of mine to be able to improve on contrast and colour schemes for those of us with colour blindness, visual impairments and other issues that are sight related.

And other than accessibility, I'm also very much into data hoarding. I still have data on seren spirits I've caught years ago! RIP that Blurberry special I got in August 2021, my only HSR roll... But I would likely go with more of that stuff. I made a bunch of trackers for event rewards in the past as well (can find those on my GitHub), used those to submit data in bulk to the wiki - and that's how I got The Wikian title

And lastly, I would like to make specific skill tools, mostly involving data. Archaeology tracker for the collections, resources needed etc. But also Player-owned farm guidance, breeding log tracker, timers for breeding ticks etc. Basically tools that already exist outside of the game, but more integrated within the game.

Menu entry swapper is top of my list.

I'd also love to see plugins which help with unique ironman game modes - it'd be great to work with tile/chunk/taskman communities to bring their game modes into the game proper. Bronzeman too (unless there are plans for having it as an official game mode).

Plugins which track lost ticks in high-intensity skilling methods.

One of the more popular plugins is door kicker. All it does is change your animation when opening doors to you kicking it open.

Rs3 plugin hub needs to also have goofy plugins like that, not just QoL ones.

So, what kind of plugins do you want to see?

For me, as someone who came over from OSRS, I would be extremely disappointed if these weren't there:

  • Menu Entry Swapper
  • Tile Markers
  • Player True tile
  • NPC highlight
  • XP Tracker (Sorry, but the runemetrics one just isn't nearly as good as the runelite one)

Other personal picks:

  • Farming timers
  • Inventory setups (RS3 has the auto-equip which is nice, but not very userfriendly, and only 18 presets... would be cool to combine best of both worlds)
  • Ground items
  • Clue scroll solver
  • Idle notifier

3

u/Periwinkleditor Jun 19 '26

I forgot about farming timers. Sure we have the machine in player owned farms but there's something just incomparable about being able to just glance over, go "oh, my herbs are ready" while I'm bossing.

I want to be able to have a plugin for one-chunk mode to be able to gray out chunks ingame that we can't cross into. I'd like to be able to see this in the world map, and when moving in the world so we don't accidentally step outside of our chunks.

7

u/concblast Conc Blast Jun 18 '26

It's a stretch, but a parseable combat log would be huge.

Other MMOs have some issues in their communities and place their blame on the logs, but those same issues are already here or worse and the tools they'd enable would make the slope between the skill floor and skill ceiling a lot more climbable.

3

u/Lenticel Jun 18 '26

If by “combat log” you mean a log of abilities/actions performed recently that can be viewed and ideally exported, I’m there with ya! Too much stuff going on in a fight to pay attention to hit splats and see my actual damage.

3

u/concblast Conc Blast Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

FF14 and WoW have this (intentionally or not) and it's awesome. It's way more information than you just described too, effectively letting you reconstruct an entire fight's timeline. It's used extensively in rankings, kill/attempt analysis, and unfortunately some mechanic cheesing. DPS meters is a fun feature because of it though!

This data's already transmitted between you and the server it's just a matter of having it be exposed. FF14's data is reverse engineered and people use third party addons with information from the data in real time to trivialize some mechanics and ranking sites like wowlogs and fflogs contribute to a level of elitism/brainrot as a side effect, but the benefit it adds outweighs that (and that mindset's already here without it). Having Jagex in the loop would allow them to obfuscate the data they don't want to circumvent mechanics.

On the other hand, what we want to avoid is the trivializing of either the game or player skill. Examples of that include automating gameplay or using hidden information to predict mechanics.

8

u/epic_squid Im too based for therapy Jun 18 '26

One of my fav OSRS plugins is called Glamour. What it does, is allows you to recolor/retint gear player-side only. For example in OSRS Virtus robes exist, but a matching god cape does not. This plugin allows you to recolor the cape to exactly match Virtus, or whatever you want.

12

u/_Survivor_ Jun 18 '26

For me, the most important advantage from Runelite is to remove the guesswork. I want to see exactly where characters and NPCs actually are. True tile + entity highlights + tile markers makes combat and skilling feel so much better because you can see past the "illusions".

Is my character actually stationary, or am I just locked into an animation? Why did I get hit by that AOE? Am I lagging? What path is my character taking? Does Surge simply teleport me from tile A to tile B? These are all questions that have been frustrating as an OSRS transplant because it's difficult to see the answer.

6

u/Lenticel Jun 18 '26

Having lost a 110 kill streak at arch glacor the other day to the damned beams, I second this one.

4

u/Periwinkleditor Jun 19 '26

Absolutely. It was learning about those plugins that made bosses like Vardorvis and Whisperer possible for me. Turns out there were specific holes in that axe's hitbox I was supposed to be using my true tile to take advantage of, and I could walk OVER dangerous tiles as long as I had run on and was starting on the right spot.

Arch-glacor beams and Kerapac's lightning wall are big examples of "naww come on that didn't hit me, right?"

6

u/ianzen Lovely money! Jun 18 '26

This would be so good for ranged with bolg. I feel like so much time when using bolg is spent looking at a tiny number in a tiny box. A larger gauge that maybe lights up when bolg proc is ready would a great quality of life. Maybe some smaller sub-gauges like in FF14 for managing arrow stack would also be amazing.

Ground Marker, True tiles, quest helper and menu entry swappers are the key essential ones imo. These 4 are the largest game changer for me.

Throwing out some ideas here based on my runelite plugin

Able to recolour/redesign our UI.

Timer indicator to show when a skilling node is about to deplete or other mechanics, example, how long till a time sprite will move, how long till a rockertunities will spawn, when a tear of guthix is going to move.

Notification system for skilling such as when you go idle or your progression bar is finished, when some skilling related mechanic spawns or node depletes.

Specific sound ID mute.

Specific visual effect hider.

Showing how much item is in a container without needing to hover over it.

Anti-drag inventory. Like the current inventory lock, but more customisable.

NPC highlight and tiles

Metronome

Clue scroll helper.

Consumable cooldown (mostly for solid brew blubber combo visual)

Dps counter

Grand exchange crowd sourced purchase/sell history data.

Inventory colour tag

Rare drop loot sound effect and glow recolour

Line of sight of current weapon's range.

Picture in picture when minimised

Entity hider

Things needed for these plugins: Quest helper, tile marker for bossing safe spots during big attacks, advanced GE statistics/margins tools, progress trackers for things not tracked in game like true trim with leaderboards, speed run tracker to see how you improve over time for bossing/dungeoneering/agility/etc, HUD icons for combat mechanics like necrosis stacks/Bolg stacks/Melee rage stacks/etc. treasure trail helper, puzzle solver, additional boss info overlay thats more organized, improved buff and debuff bars, ability use recorder to display abilities used in order for videos/to improve.

3

u/TheHeadlessOne Jun 18 '26

Two big requests Im looking forward to, alongside what everyone else has discussed

- camera control. Being able to for example set the position of the camera independent of the player would be huge. I don't know if this is particularly possible just via plugin but it would be tremendous for managing high-movement, click intensive activities in static arenas (so like..bossing)

- Expose access to buff bar elements to allow us to create WoW style HUDs. Right now there is a LOT of small icons to manage and they're constantly flipping around. For timers this isnt always a big deal, but it would be very nice to be able to adjust how we see stacks and alt combat resources

In addition to the popular quest helper, tile marker and clue solver, i want a grouping system and a ping system for the group. Would make stuff so much easier

2

u/BlankArchive Jun 18 '26

The thing I've wanted more than anything is automatic screenshots. When I tried Leagues and got to used Runelite, the tidy categorised automatic screenshots for everything was wonderful. But what I have to wonder is whether this in-client plugin browser is designed to allow for that.

I guess more specifically what I'd like clarification on is if plugins will be allowed to save external files, or if everything has to stay enclosed in the client.

A plugin where you could export your keybinds and then reimport them as presets would also be lovely. Although I'd rather have that as a base game feature.

A model/animation viewer would be great for content creators, and as an artist getting references would be very useful. You can do this through alt-1 already but it'd be less messy to do in-game, I'm sure.

Oh and I want to see Idyl's Snailman mode in RS3. That'd be really fun (:<

A lot of people have already mentioned some great plugin ideas that I’d be excited to see.
Two I haven’t seen brought up yet:

Improved buff/debuff icons – More customization options, such as resizing, repositioning, grouping, and adjusting visibility. The current system can become difficult to track during high-intensity PvM.

Rotation Tracker – A plugin that could import or reference a PVME rotation and guide the player through it. For example, it could display the next recommended ability in a HUD and optionally highlight the corresponding action bar slot. This could be a great learning tool for players trying to improve their rotations and understand optimal ability sequencing.

A archeology plugin would be nice. I have soo many artifacts in my bank and whenever I take a break and come back to the game I forget what collections I was going for. So now banks full and I need to figure out what to do with the artifacts.

Every one suggested the must haves but also unironically if we had an SD plugin that made the game look more old-school, I think that would be cool to see and maybe help osrs players get into rs3.

2

u/NexexUmbraRs RuneScore Jun 19 '26

Built in clue trainer.

2

u/el_toro_grand Jun 19 '26

What I personally would absolutely hate would be for boss design to revolve around plug ins the way it does in osrs, I had to stop playing osrs because it felt like if I wasn't using plug ins I was at a massive disadvantage with metronomes and tile plug ins etc, I feel like most people are super intimidated to even boss in rs3 and my hope is that bossing design isn't pushed to its limit to become even more difficult but instead plug ins will help with already tough bosses and future boss design won't revolve around forcing us to use any plug ins but retain its current difficulty level

Design around the masses, not the 1% best players, it's not fun game design, it's not inviting and it doesn't motivate people to play the game further when certain plug ins feel like the 'meta' instead of being a recommendation

2

u/el_toro_grand Jun 19 '26

Clue solver would be my #1 by far, at this point I've saved thousands and thousands of clues, and it feels like such a daunting task cus alt 1 is either constantly broken or just does not run on anything but my main PC

2

I am going going to say many of the plugins from alt+1,

clue helper - point out location of next clue.

afk warden - audio alerts for boss drop, additional notifications like text, potion runout audio alert, spirit alert

meg answers - points to answers of them, this could be used for quests for easily skipping quests.

POF cure - tracks and guides options to clearing disease or shares symptoms in a table for answering,

Croesus alert - notifies of next action (might fall into your note of predicting mechanics) might be better alerting like move from current tile when boss throws mechanic

note system - make on screen notes like If I want recipe for disaster these are the required quests and sub quests, slayer creatures to do.

bank search helper - allow searching for archeology relic and see all relics in bank without specific options.

Will we get any UI customization with the API update?

For example, many players expressed accessibility issues with the UI color changes. Will they be able to use this to change their UI colors that makes the game accessible to them again?

Another example would be the ability to turn off or hide the headers that were added to combat ability books. Not every player needs or wants Basic, Threshold, Ultimate, Special, Utility, Enhanced displayed in the combat book.

Making these things available to players would seemingly align with the recently stated:

2

u/B_oo Jun 20 '26

Having been playing RS3 for two months coming from osrs there are a few I’d really enjoy having on here as well outside of the more obvious ones others are including like quest and clue helper etc: Ground items, idle alarm, visual metronome, timers(farming etc), better NPC highlight, true tile/tile markers, GE plugin, loot tracker, hi scores, bossing info plugin (shows kph, profit/hr etc), player indicators, screenshot plugin, xp tracker and of course c engineer.

2

u/ocd4life Jun 22 '26

I'd love to see a menu option/order switcher as some things simply don't do what you really want them to when on the action bar. A tool to track mobs and bosses killed and all drops - as the old runemetrics pro web profile used to do - would be very nice as well.

I'd love to see a fully supported version of ALT1 clue trainer and the ability to highlight tiles for movement shortcuts (dive/surging 'through' things) that make the elite cluers so fast.

Would love to see a tileman mode plugin

Clearly just Quest Helper would almost be enough on its own. Whilst the quests are really fantastic to run through, some are just *so* convoluted I’ve no idea how anyone worked them out before the wiki was a thing.

Definitely don't be scared to have tight controls over community plug-ins. Seeing with how abusive the ones in OSRS can get.

As the API project is being developed in-house by Jagex, will a compatible ‘mobile plug-in hub’ launch alongside the desktop version?

Definitely agree with common ones (True tile, menu swapper, quest helper, clue helper, tile indicators, etc.) Here are a few others:

  1. I'd love to see more customizability for ability cooldowns, like being able to display in game ticks rather than seconds. Or, once an ability on a long cooldown is within 1 GCD of being castable, play the GCD wipe with all other abilities.

  2. Possibly indicators for certain ability interactions (i.e. finger of death glows slightly when you have X number of necrosis stacks) although there's grey area there, wouldn't want it to hand-hold.

  3. More customization available for buff / debuff bars themselves, and more customization for how to display when certain buffs are active/ending.

I think more of this as a chance to remove annoyances and give QoL. I didn't put a lot of thought but here's some random ideas:

Entity hider to hide other players in some stances (like Fort).

Also hide pets and conjures from player and another players, because sometimes they hide enemies in combat.

Particle hider to... well, hide most particle effects.

Respawn timers (for arch resources, trees) and farming timers if possible. And better visual indication if soil is treated (while farming isn't fixed). Some kind of farming notifications would greatly help.

GE buy limit watch to accommodate the new GE update coming.

Make it possible to have interfaces to list player unlocks, suggested quest paths and so on, helping progression. The API needs to be able to get detailed info from the player.

Make it able to lay out all the info summarized into a dashboard or streamline the default interface to the max so both camps of players can be happy.

- Quest helper (meaning full 3d object marking, inventory marking, basically click the rectangle for 20 minutes to pass the quest if the player chooses)

  • Notification system including triggering on 3d objects (seren spirit spawning/carpet dust etc). AFK timer, xp drop timer, drop alerts, Alert on AFK immediately for things like fishing/pickpocketing, Health/prayer low alerts, cannon empty...
  • Meg Helper!
  • Menu entry swapper would be massive
  • Shooting star notifier + crowdsourced player input exact locations
  • Bank value over time graph
  • World cycle (keybind moving to the next world, specific keybind selects the new "uncontested world" option)
  • Mute certain game sounds selectively with a fuzzy search
  • Tick metronome that syncs
  • Weeklies reminder/automatic check off when complete that's orderable
  • Farming reminders based on what's growing
  • Banked experience
  • Chat history
  • Certain player highlights (friends list, specific names, grouped etc)
  • Cooldowns overlayed on items like excalibur (timer actually on the item)
  • Entity hider (outside of combat maybe if it's too invasive? But at fort it would be nice from time to time)
  • Ground items (white text list of items on the ground with their prices/colourings)
  • Herb white text overlays (like "ranr", "dwrf", "avnt")
  • runescape.wiki crowdsourcing drop rates (Automatically sends them off when logging out.)
  • Screenshotter (achievements, new PR's on bosses, levels/milestones automatically take a screenshot)
  • Item outline colour selector (so I can make my ranged swap all green etc)
