Shenzhen not quite ready?

Recently visited Shenzhen, overall the city was quite underwhelming. Almost everything westerners see on Instagram wasn’t really quite ready, the traffic was terrible, the building malls weren’t as futuristic or spectacular, worst of all getting around was a logistical nightmare, the names of locations don’t match, or you just can’t find it. I get China has its own entire digital system but if Shenzhen wants to become more integrated or welcoming to international tourism it really needs to sort out some of these basic key issues.

why are you using google maps in china 💀 anyways most of your issues can be solved with basic research, same as going to any other country/city.

Not trying to ragebait, just telling it as it is, more foreigners thinking about visiting Shenzhen need to know the reality. Even the requirement of using Chinas own apps is a barrier to entry that needs to be fixed.

Bro, why doesn’t Shenzhen just get Google Maps and Facebook? Are they stupid?

That’s precisely my point. A map is a map, places don’t change.

So learning a new app was just too much for you?

Why do you use reddit and not learn another reddit equivalent? Most people ain’t going to learn a new app just to visit a new place.

Not true, with basic research the places don’t even exist

As soon as I saw using Google maps in China, I stopped reading, got to be trolling, also did you go to the Mix C shopping centres? ridiculous statements by OP.

Maybe that’s my mistake. Amap shows MixC world? I guess it’s the same logic as why we both use Reddit.. why not two separate apps?

Googles Map's of China haven't been updated in 15 years if not more, If Reddit did that do you think I would keep using it? pointless comparison,

logistical nightmare, man Shenzhen is one of the most convenient places for transportation, if you don't know how to get somewhere just get a DD or one of the ultra efficient metro lines that have obvious signage in english (with matching names). Yeah there's a lot of traffic, that's why most people get around by electric bikes. how futuristic do you want your buildings to be? I literally doubt we even went to the same city

DD is just Uber. The buildings in Shenzhen were older than most buildings in Dubai, yet all over social media they try to make it look spectacular. All smoke and mirrors

Dude Shenzhen is 20 years ahead of any of your American cities.

That’s not what I saw. Name 5 things that’s ahead

Electric ferries, malls, all cars EVs and non polluting, high speed rail, extensive subway system, subways with protective glass doors to prevent people from being pushed or jumping onto the tracks, drone delivery of milk tea and other food, etc.

Places advertised don’t exist, hype everywhere about nothing, literally nothing special.

It’s funny how YouTube and Instagram can still distort how a city truly is

That’s where younger generations get their info. As well as deepseek and Qwen. Infos all off
