Also, there's nothing that impressive about a jumping stunt car. There is no practical use of it, and if it's not already illegal for road use, it should be. It's goof for promotional stunts and professional daredevils only.
Absolutely a shell RC. Probably had most of its batteries removed as well. If this was anything more than a publicity stunt, they would have shown the interior and given a tour of the build. We would have seen a driver get out of the car, too. And this will never see a roadway with a dozen high pressure canisters stashed away in all the crash impact zones.
Everyone here keeps saying that but there's zero proof. We saw it drive, we saw it stick to a (beyond) vertical wall. It definitely has car parts (drive unit, battery) and the fan system (which requires a hefty battery). It's possible (likely) they used a cut-down battery and stripped interior to reduce weight.
As an engineer, it's absolutely impressive, and absolutely useless (as anything other than a neat demo)
Nothing? I’d love to know what you do for a living that find this not impressive. I know it isnt solving world hunger, or anything else plaguing society, but its impressive, and inconceivable by pretty recent standards.
The tech for the car is at least 50 years old. Cold thrusters and vaccuum suctioned cars to help stick to the road. Just no ones really probably thought it was important to make
That's irrelevant. The point is that many people have been able to do stuff like this for decades. It's not some innovative tech. It's just a cool stunt, like thousands of other cool car stunts.
I can't do heart surgery either, but that doesn't mean a hospital is doing anything new or impressive when one of its doctors does a heart surgery in the sense he's created something. The individual surgeon might be very skilled and praiseworthy and the fact it's possible to save lives this way is pretty cool, but it doesn't make the surgeon or the hospital any more special than any other than can do the same thing.
And that's the point. People are acting like this jumping car is the pinnacle of technology when it's nothing new at all.
Yes is is impressive and no I'm not criticising it.
My point is that your "so you could do it" arugument is irrelevant. I can't build a Model T Ford either. It doesn't make a Model T Ford the latest in technology.
Its not the pinnacle of technology. Its also not unimpressive. Thats all im saying. You guys are all so butt hurt about politics to call a spade a spade
And this meme is claiming it IS the pinnacle of technology and not just a stunt.
It is a cool stunt? Sure. You don't see that every day. But it's not new or impressive technology. It's an impressive stunt, but the tech behind it is old and well understood.
It's just a shell of a 'futuristic looking' car with thrusters stuck to it. Someone could have built that in the 1980s, but it would have been stupid and pointless then, too, so nobody did.
Just more PT Barnum antics from a man whose chief skill is in getting credulous investors hooked and then jumping on to the next big flashy thing just before anyone realises the last one is never going to happen.
Ok. What practical application would you say it has?
Do you seriously think this is gonna be something you use to jump over traffic or something?
You do think that don't you? Lmao.
Im just pointing out somebody that has never did anything noteworthy, is saying theres nothing impressive about a streetcar that can do a barrel roll. I find it impressive. I cant believe im in the minority
Not any of us are a team of people with billions of dollars backing them working every day for a decade on this for near nothing. If you wanna impress me do something thats gonna help the majority of people in america
No he didn't. He bought himself into the company and then made him the leader of it. He didn't build or invent shit lmao. He just used his money to put himself into the position.
If I spent 500 billion to buy 5000 people saying I was God, you'd consider me God and be really impressed or what? Lmao.
Basically this thing in a car looking chassis with wheels. Next time he will strap a rocket onto a Cybertruck and the fanboys will be gasping “inconceivable” https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lnpOEDqzkVk
I mean it's impressive in the sense that it looks cool, but people have been done stunts like this with cars for longer than I've been alive, and I'm 46. Its nothing innovative or new is what I should have said.
Yes, and they hate it…… but even his idiocy can’t hinder their love of innovation. I tend to think of it as a Werner Von Braun situation, take the $ to try and better the world no matter who’s handing it out. While it’s morally questionable, I can’t argue with that attitude.
Source: two personal liberal acquaintances who are engineers for the company lol.
Also, even teslas engineers hate the cyber truck and apparently it’s the only project Elon demanded he be in on the engineering/design and completely wrote off every issue they brought up
A friend of mine's daughter is a MIT graduate rocket scientist and interviewed with SpaceX. She declined the offer to work there. She said the working conditions were awful and everyone she met was miserable. She stayed at JPL. .
Did it make Einstein or Von Braun nazi’s? Did Oppenheimers politics make him either a capitalist or communist? Did it make Mercedes or Hugo Boss Nazis? Or IBM, the Bayer company, etc (Idk about those Mercedes or Hugo Boss honestly, just throwing out ideas of major people/companies with shady ties in the past)
It's my belief that no matter the cause, if you work under a nazi, you're a nazi. Do people just get a pass or something? And who decides who gets a pass?
The problem with that is, generally…… those shitty people have the most $ and influence. Even the Nazis, imperialist Japan, the USSR, the USA at its worst made ENORMOUS advances for the people of the earth. I mean, without Von Braun space travel would STILL be an issue most likely, without Bayer we wouldn’t have half of the medicines we have, and so on and so forth.
You could even go back centuries, without the Roman’s we wouldn’t have anywhere NEAR the infrastructure or advanced western societies at the level they’re at now, and we ALL know how good the Roman Emperors were
I’m of the belief you can’t judge one person on the actions of a company or their CEO.
Von Braun famously defected as soon as he realized his long range rockets would work KNOWING it would give Hitler the advantage and then the tide even further towards Nazi domination in the war. Idk about his second in command
Even though he defected so that the Nazis DIDNT get said rockets?
The Nazis used forced labor for essentially EVERYTHING, so blaming one man for the use of said forced labor to advance humanity is kind of an ignorant take IMHO when they openly left said regime when it was apparent their work would advance said horrible cause.
If you work for a company that has ideals that contradict your own, then you must not have much of an issue with those ideals. People have the choice of whether or not to work for a company they don't align with. And don't give me the "they need to make a living" bullshit. If they so strongly opposed the ideals that Musk and Tesla stand for, they wouldn't work there.
As a former Tesla employee who would categorize myself as fairly liberal, yes. A very large number of them in fact. There aren't many companies where you get to work on projects that are truly innovative, and the people there are very passionate about the work they do.
When someone says "Tesla" or "SpaceX", people hear "Elon", which is the unfortunate part. Some of the most brilliant minds I've ever worked with in my life are at those companies and are genuinely passionate about the work they do. These companies are more than just Elon Musk.
When Elon stops using the wealth and platform these companies have given him to influence national and global politics, I'll change how I view these companies.
I really like my wife's 2020 model y and, when we were replacing my old truck, I wanted to get another Tesla.
But with the total about face Elon has openly pulled since we bought my wife's car, I will never give Tesla another dollar as long as it will benefit Elon.
Yeah, while I personally would never work for SpaceX considering what I've heard from friends about the working conditions and expectations, they are one of the few companies you can work for right now as an Aerospace Engineer that is actually forwarding space travel and a lot of people will put up with a lot of BS to work on what theyre passionate about. (The same goes for Blue Origin too)
If Elon has any talent it's getting talented people to sign on his vision, he's a POS but Im sure every engineer that worked on this had the best time ever.
If a job pays well, why would anyone quit just because the CEO has different political views? Is that actually a thing in America? Do people really walk away from a good job over stuff like that?
Idiots do. I work for a really shitty chemical processing company, and I’m SURE (without proof) they’re on some shady political BS since the current regime rolled back environmental regulations, but they treat their decently and actually listen to us. For example, since inflation has went through the roof they’ve give SUBSTANTIAL (for me, personally almost 20% of my annual salary) raises to compensate for the extreme rise in cost of living, got us better insurance and are now offering financial planning, child care stipends for overnight workers, etc
Elon is an idea man that’s smart enough to leave the technical details to some very intelligent people but not smart enough to recognize he’s actually just an eccentric idiot.
Edit: I make a backhanded compliment of Elon and get downvoted. Keep up the good work Redditors.
The shop owner opened the shop, without him there wouldn’t be one. All of these pieces go to together, but that’s not to say CEOs and executives don’t get the overwhelming majority of profits.
Musk layed off 80% of Twitter workforce after acquiring it. He ran a gouvernemental program whose whole goal was laying off public servants. If he was fired from his companies there is no reason to believe it would have an impact on the workforce.

Elon doesn't create anything. The liberals working in his companies do.
