Zero rocket fuel. It uses compressed air. So, 10 seconds of flying, and hours of continuous running of compressors to fill up the tanks again for another 10 seconds.
Kyle Conner who runs the Out of Spec channel on YouTube (EV reviewer) showed the contraption they use to fill it and it legitimately looks like something they borrowed from SpaceX, it’s insane.
The only “practical” application I could envision would require Tesla to set up shop at drag strips around the world and offer services to fill the car for you before you do a run. And if it’s takes this wild multi-million dollar apparatus used for space purposes, there’s just no fucking way.
I could even get crazy and imagine them being used to stabilize the car during cornering. But again, the above problem still exists.
Even if you try to find a positive, there isn’t one.
It’s hard to imagine the weight ever being worth it. It’s not new tech, and nothing stopped anyone from using these type of thrusters before. I guess it took a new generation of gullible kids to come along and be amazed.
If the ones on the rear can actually help you do 0-60 in less than a second, I could see that being "worth it" for some. But the Sperling can do it in 1.4 seconds without thrusters. And a Corvette ZR1X can do it in 1.8 seconds without thrusters or a fan.
I don't think it's necessarily about the thrusters being new tech, but rather the tech was already in Elmo's portfolio from the other company he bought his way in to.
Either way, fuck Elon, fuck Tesla, and fuck this roadster that isn't a roadster.
Not just even that, Elon musk didn’t pull this invention out of his ass, actually engineers and intelligent individuals had to come together and make this, Elon just threw money at.
Threw money at it and put his name on it. It’s what he does. Dude never had an original good idea in his life. Just buys other peoples’ and takes credit for it.
By many metrics the thing in the oic isn't a car anyway. It is a special built rocket thing in the general shape of a car.that really only works for a minute-ish. Just long enough to put on that specific show.
And...elom didn't design, build, etc it. He paid for it. That is it.
“The version of the car that’s capable of leaving the ground won’t be publicly available and does not have approval for use on public roads.” — Caroline Petrow-Cohen, LA Times
No. They don’t. They really, really don’t. They don’t know that he didn’t build it, they don’t know they he cut off communications for a wartime ally, and they probably don’t care.
Not just that. Chances are Musk had little if anything to do with designing the car. He definitely can't take credit for thinking of the "flying car" because that idea has been around for well over fifty years. It takes no intelligence to say "we should get into the flying car market."
I would to add some info for general knowledge here
1. the car is built by engineers though financed by musk who has extreme wealth
2. the car has a huge hard plastic ballon of compressed air, as large enough to occupy both rear seats, air released at pre programmed intervals to turn the car around and control the landing
3. the car bare bone structure reveals this will not be possible to use as daily car
4. nor the car is actual car with proper external frame as production cars, it’s a made up car
5. the primary purpose of this stunt seems to manipulate stocks
They can't release this to the pubic. Do you think the law is going to allow people to use this on the streets? MAGA would be using this like people do donuts. There is no way this is ever going to be legal since the car isn't even flying at all. It's dangerously jumping and flipping in the air.
tell us you know nothing without knowing anything. First and foremost, as was WIDELY reported, the "jets" use compressed air, NOT rocket fuel! and yes this is not likely to ever be legal on the road but that is not the point - the point is a demonstration that it CAN be done, and if the car ends up costing 250k - i doubt a person who can pay that would be like "oh i would but i can't get insurance. Shucks!"
The fact you think there is an actual car under all that... It is just a lightweight frame with some aircraft aluminium in the same of a car with a set of wheel with just enough battery to provide a few seconds of acceleration. The rest is the air compressors and compressed air thrusters. If that car were just shy of 2 tonnes that means each thruster would have to produce 500kg of thrust or near it to let it "hover to the ground" (likely more) The reality that isn't happening with 250kg of compressed air. (The number Telsa says it had) That means that car was a stunt vehicle made as light as possible.
If that made it into a "Production car" half the car would be compressed air storage and you'd get a 2-5sec burst once. That isn't a flying car. No one is going to buy that. They may build one to say they did. They may even build 5... but that isn't a real car.
I wouldn't make it. As it is a stupid thing to make. The fact so many white Supremacists still love Tesla openly always baffles me. Any sort of rational thinking will tell you that is just a stunt car and it will not be a production thing. I have never made a Klan Hood either. For the same reason. Don't make stupid things.

They know this isn’t a car for them right? I’m guessing starting price would be in the millions if they ever produce it.
How much rocket fuel did it take for that single jump?
Would any insurance company touch it? I’d say you’d never get it made legal on the roads, but he’s got a president in his pocket so maybe.
How messed up will the average non-astronaut feel after a maneuver like that? Too nauseous to carry on driving right away I’m sure.
