Elon is unintelligent enough to think that flying cars are a good idea when most people either suck at driving normally or can barely afford gas for a regular car, let alone a flying car that would need way more energy to work.
In all fairness. I'm pretty sure he is fully aware it's nothing but a marketing stunt and will never happen.
He just know his fanbase will eat it up and continue to buy his stocks for ludicrous prices because of it.
Elon is the world first trillionaire because he found a new business model where the main product of his companies is the stock itself and the money from selling the stocks gets reinvested into stunts to further prop the stock.
Is it sustainable? No. Is it dumb? Yes. But not for him.
