CONSIDER THE SCIENCE BEHIND THIS.

If you have taken physics or you are science-oriented, you'll realize that this is very likely a sham. I'm not 100% certain, but if you think about the physics, what is being suggested is impossible.

Think about the enormous amount of energy required to keep this car afloat if it's based on propellant. Consider how Harrier Jump jets spend so much fuel to do something similar for a few seconds.

The only way to accomplish this practically would be to rely on a technology that counteracts gravitational forces without expending energy. The aliens that have been spotted sporadically likely use such a technology. But we are nowhere near that level of technology yet. [Edit - deleted: Our scientists still don't know where gravity comes from.]

Harrier jump jet is fundamentally different

They didn't say they were the same. They said consider how much fuel the Harrier expends, which is true.

From what I saw in an article about this, the car uses 10,000 psi of compressed air to operate the thrusters.

And, it is 100% legit even if it isn't practical for anything at the moment.

Correct, compressed air is energy in this use case and it takes a tremendous amount of it, which is OPs point.

You understood my point! Thanks!

The car didn't fly, it fell slowly. It also jumped briefly. There is more than enough propellant for that.

The real issue is that the gas tank is then depleted and takes hours to fill, and this will never be legal anywhere.

Similarly the fans that keep it upside down are nothing new. Fan cars were banned from Formula 1 racing in the 1970s as they shoot road debris out of the back of the car. This will never be road legal anywhere.

So you are left with the no fan, no jet version of the car as the only one that will ever be driven on the road. Given that the 2020 roadster never appeared after 9 years, I wouldn't hold my breath on this one.

The entire thing was just a publicity stunt to boost Tesla and Space X.

That's a bingo!

Not sure I would want to ride around on a 10,000 psi compressed air bomb that might potato-cannon my insides into next month in a rupture event.

I'm not disagreeing.

My point is that whether it's compressed air or the mechanism used by a Harriet jet, you can't sustain that without expending massive amount of energy. Such methods simply wouldn't be practical.

That's why I would never invest in those flying vehicles that rely on rotor blades like drones. The massive amount of energy required for sustained flight would never be practical. Why would you want to spend thousands of dollars on fuel/energy to go minimal distance?

It isn't meant to be sustained flight. It's meant to be short bursts of movement.
