Perhaps because President Ford was never hit.

But he was a target on two separate occasions by two women in September 1975, in California. The first was a Manson cult member, the second an FBI informant turned left-wing activist.

Abraham Lincoln.

Shot by John Wilkes Booth. Booth was pro-slavery, pro confederacy, a white supremacist, and anti-immigration. He was very conservative for the time. He was not a registered member of the Democratic Party.

John F. Kennedy.

Shot by Lee Harvey Oswald. Oswald was a Marxist who defected to the Soviet Union. He had no demonstrated ties to the Democratic Party.

Robert F Kennedy.

Shot by Sirhan Sirhan. Sirhan’s political affiliations weren’t aligned with American parties. He was far more concerned with opposing Israel than anything else. He was not a democrat, in fact Robert and John Kennedy were BOTH democrats with a strong position of support for civil rights.

Martin Luther King Jr.

Shot by James Earl Ray.

Ray was part of the American Independent party, deeply segregationist, and very racist. He was not a democrat. Investigation concluded that there was probably a conspiracy which aided him, but it’s most likely that members came from similarly like minded and radical far right groups.

Ronald Reagan.

Attacked by John Hinckley Jr.

Hinckley was not politically motivated to attack Reagan. He was, I shit you not, trying to hook up with actress Jodie Foster.

Donald Trump

Attacked by Thomas Matthew Cooks and Ryan Wesley Routh.

Crooks was a registered Republican who at one point donated $15 to a progressive voter turnout group. He was not a democrat. No convincing political motivation has yet been put forth.

Routh at one point supported Trump, but later supported Biden and Harris. His actual registration was unaffiliated. He was deeply critical of Trump (obviously), but he was not exactly a democrat partisan.

Charlie Kirk.

Alleged to have been shot by Tyler Robinson.

Robinson was not a registered Democrat, he was an inactive voter who is listed as unaffiliated. His political leanings are actively being discussed as part of his trial. He is innocent until proven guilty.

Slight correction: Oswald was a Marxist, did go to the Soviet Union, became so disenchanted with Communism he left and completely flipped to being Fascist. He did try to get the Cubans and Russians (through their Mexican embassy) in on it, trying to start WW3 (they thought he was out of his mind and never entertained him).

They absolutely DID abuse their position and authority to harass, undermine, surveil, and persecute both Dr. King and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

Pieces of evidence in favour of this view are as follows:

  • The FBI has murdered black activists before, notably Fred Hampton
  • The alleged killed (James Earl Ray) recounted his confession as illegitimate
  • The gun used as evidence against him did not match the bullets found in MLK
  • The FBI had sent letters harassing MLK, including one encouraging him to kill himself
  • The black police were pulled from protecting him for an unknown reason and the one who refused received threatening phone calls that only stopped after MLK was killed.

The FBI had a serious role in the planning and execution of the Chicago Police raid where Hampton was murdered, but that doesn’t actually prove that they ordered him killed. They may well have, we just don’t have smoking gun evidence that says they did.

James Earl Rays confession was damning, but even without it there was plenty of evidence showing that he was probably the killer. He would hardly be the first guilty person to recant their confession.

The bullets could not conclusively be linked to the gun, but they did match the characteristics of bullets used in that gun. Forensic ballistics isn’t like a DNA match.

I’ve already acknowledged that the FBI was extremely active in harassing King and other civil rights leaders. That doesn’t directly equate to conspiracy to murder.

The security detail changes were requested by the officers themselves due to the perception that Dr. King’s party did not want them there. The removal was more than 24 hours prior to the assassination.

The detective who received threatening phone calls was detective Redditt, who was removed after the police received threats against black police. His partner, det. Richmond remained at the post. So it’s not like no one was there.

None of this proves a conspiracy to murder Dr. King. None of it is even credible evidence. This has been investigated repeatedly by congressional committees with a strong interest in determining the truth. If the FBI do order King killed, then we don’t yet have direct evidence of it.

Hinkley was also a card-carrying, dues-paying member of the National Socialist Party of America, a neo-nazi organization that had splintered from the National Socialist White People’s Party, which was itself the successor of the American Nazi Party.

He was expelled from the NSPA two years before his attempt to kill Regan because he was considered too fixated on political violence as a means to achieve party aims.

Sirhan Sirhan is surprisingly still alive and talking. He was Palestinian and gave an interview to the New York Times about how he did it for Palestine. I don't know what RFK had to do with Palestine.

Booth was a member of the Know-Nothing party. He was neither Democrat nor Republican.
