Discussion Instant purchase regret

I know I’m not the first to post about this but I am new to the sub after being super disappointed by the Ninja Autobarista pro and researching tips to help. The extraction is small/weak, no crema, no depth. Used so many beans already just calibrating and haven’t enjoyed a proper cup yet. Do I persevere a week and hope grindIQ will figure it out or look for an alternative?

Need something easy to use & clean, we all like different coffees so need something versatile too although we have a milk frother already so don’t need this in the machine.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Purchase Advice Basic espresso first recommendations

Budget, approx $1k USD. Refurb or other less than new ok. Region, USA. Pacific Northwest.

Long time lurker, long times super auto owner.

Started with a Seaco...then bought a delonghi magnifica ESAM3300.

This has been a warrior...reliable, something I clean and service brew group, replaced orings, etc.

We just use the espresso function. External frother, mix of normal milk, oat, cold, etc. I don't really value all the milk based things to maintain.

So Delonghi and Jura are both known to have core brew groups the same for almost the entire line. Jura seems like it will win on pure espresso taste and extraction, but delonghi isn't that far off but is easier to self service and maintain for years on my own.

I've also noticed KitchenAid getting in the mix.

Thoughts for best grind and extraction brew over all longer service life? highly prioritize just expresso shot quality and willing to consider semi auto if it buys higher quality shots and service life.

Discussion Jura Ena 8 - Grind Settings

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’m trying to find the finest grind position but not sure which position it should be at. On my pic, I turned the wheel clockwise as far as it went. People online mentioned turning anti-clockwise would be finest setting but that would be first bar on the left side of the grinder wheel which makes no sense to me (unless the logic is that grinding settings are rated as 1-finest; 10-coarsest).

Purchase Advice Gaggia Cadorna Prestige vs Jura Z10

Yes, I realize the price difference is substantial...

I have had a Jura J5 for almost 20 years - literally - and it has been bulletproof. I have never sent it for service, and I use the water filters and cleaning tablets as directed by the machine.

I like a good espresso, but I'm certainly not a connoisseur. The rest of my family likes "milk drinks", but I always hedge on making them because of the setup and cleanup time with the J5.

So I'm considering a new superautomatic that has "ease of use", especially with regard to building milk drinks and a big plus for iced milk drinks. Of course, I still want a decent double espresso when I ask for it.

The Z10's daily cleaning process, if you use the milk system, is still pretty involved, but as I said, the one I have had for almost 20 years has treated me right, so I'm seriously leaning that way despite the price. The videos and setup of the Gaggia make it seem a lot easier to use.

Any feedback from Gaggia Cadorna Prestige owners regarding overall maintenance, quality (build and bevs produced), and longevity? It's literally 6x cheaper than the Z10!

Thanks in advance.

Purchase Advice Best bang-for-buck bean-to-cup machine for large cappuccinos? De’Longhi Magnifica Evo or something else?

Hey everyone!
I’m looking to buy a fully automatic bean-to-cup coffee machine and would love some recommendations from people who’ve actually used these machines long-term.

I mainly drink cappuccinos, and I like them fairly large ideally around 300 ml with a double espresso shot. I’m not looking for one of those machines that makes a tiny cappuccino and I don’t want a massive, weak, milky coffee either.

My main priorities are:
Good cappuccinos with decent milk texture and strong espresso.
Fully automatic milk frothing ideally just pressing a button rather than manually steaming milk.
Larger drink sizes, preferably with the option of a double espresso.

Good value for money I’m not interested in paying a huge premium for features I won’t use.
Reasonably easy cleaning and maintenance.

I’m based in South Africa, and my budget is ideally under R10,000 (roughly $550–600 USD), although I’d consider spending a little more if it makes a significant difference.

I’ve been looking at the De’Longhi Magnifica Evo (ECAM290.61.B), which seems like a good option. From what I understand, I could use the MyLatte function and then add another espresso shot to make a larger, stronger cappuccino.

But before pulling the trigger, I’d love to hear:
Is the Magnifica Evo genuinely good value, or are there better bean-to-cup machines around this price point?
Any recommendations on models worth watching would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Purchase Advice Buying Second Hand Automatic - Delonghi Dinamica

Hello guys,

As stated in the title I'm looking to buy a delonghi dinamica. Do you have any advice on picking a used item?

I found one that has been sitting for 5 years, Seller says it works fine but I'm afraid that it might leak after so long without being used due to dried out seals?

Thank you

Purchase Advice Too many options out there

For context: I prefer a “Coffee Forward” flavor. If I go to a coffee shop I almost always ask for an extra shot or double shot.

I have a Breville Barista Express that I’ve used for 5-6 years(at least).

I’ve gotten so busy in life that I am considering something simpler as in press the button and go.

It really seems like there isn’t much up to date info online and SM marketing makes every review say the machines are the absolute best so I’m turning to real people and asking for help.

My options for Super automatics that I’m considering:
KA 6 or 7
Jura ENA 8
Miele 5310 or 6360

Also looked at Phillips cafe aromis 8000
Any other recommendations are welcome, but please provide context or experience.

My budget is about $2500 USD. I could spend more if it was truly worth it but if I can get a quality machine for less I’ll take it as well.

What I want - great quality coffee output that’s consistent. I want great pulls shots with a full crema and tasty heart.

What I’ll probably purchase-
Something my wife can use when I’m not around, but that produces quality full bodied coffee. My wife isn’t the coffee connoisseur I am, nor is she tech driven as I am. She wants something that she can press a button and get a consistent cup from. She doesn’t like her coffee overly sweetened and prefers her foamed milk to have quality texture and not come out spongey. She prefers the silky mess of a good microfoam, and we know we would be sacrificing some of this for the convenience.

In the end I prefer espresso, americanos and the occasional cappuccino unsweetened. However, I enjoy making the wife her shaken espressos as well.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance Melitta Latticia OT – Intermittent drip tray warning (blinking tray icon) despite tray being inserted. Any ideas?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,

My Melitta Latticia OT has been showing an intermittent blinking drip tray warning, even though the tray is properly inserted.

Initially, the warning would disappear on its own after 3–5 hours, and the machine would work normally for a few cups before the issue returned. Recently, the warning has become almost permanent. I feel lucky when I can at least get one cup of coffee a day.

I’ve checked the tray switch and wiring; the brew unit and microswitch are functioning properly. I also replaced the 470 µF capacitor on the control board as per an old forum suggestion, but the problem persists.

I’ve attached the video showing the blinking lights.
Has anyone experienced something similar with a Melitta machine? Could this be a faulty control board or a power supply issue?

I live in India, so there isn’t any authorised service centre for Melitta. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Purchase Advice Speciality Coffee Shop Style Flat White

Looking to sell my Gaggia Classic Pro and either move to a dual boiler espresso machine or a super automatic. Main reason for considering super-auto is my partner doesn't enjoy the process of using an espresso machine.

I love a good flat white, speciality coffee shop style. I mention that specifically as a lot of people who love flat whites love the Starbucks style one which is closer to a Latte than a Cortado. I've read through this sub and seen lots of references to Flat Whites and I assume people are talking about more my style of FW than a Starbucks style one but just wondering if anyone who loves the same style of FW as me could confirm whether their machine makes a solid one?

Thanks in advance for any advice! Price range wise I'm looking to spend roughly €1000-€2000. Happy to stretch for the right machine but don't mind going cheaper (Eletta Explore) if the machine does the job I need.

Discussion New Purchase: Miele 6360

I just purchased a week old Miele 6360 today and am wondering if you have any tips for me? It’ll be my first automatic and I’m coming from a Keurig. I expect a much better cup of Joe and look forward to trying out all of the drinks. I’ll likely start with a cappuccino, I’m guessing with whole milk.

My new Philips 3300 LatteGo (EP3347/90) makes very loud, high-pitched noises when pressing the coffee. Two of my friends have the same machine, but theirs doesn't make this noise at all. Is this normal? What should I do?

Purchase Advice Need advice: Eletta Ultra vs Jura S8

I was using my DeLonghi PrimaDonna Evo S for 8 years now. Never had an issue or repairs. I am mainly drinking Long with a bit of cream, I add to my cup. Wife likes latte. I am in the market for a new machine. Jura s8 is 100€ more expensive than Ultra (some sort of promo). Which one would you recommend? Will I benefit from ultra or will basically have a better UI, but the coffee will taste the same? Or maybe I will only feel any difference with S8? Would appreciate your views on my topic. Thanks

I believe I have it set to three, and this is using Lavazza beans from Costco. As much as I love the ease of use of a super automatic, this is the part that’s frustrating because I’m not very technical when it comes to this machine or a complete manual machine to know great taste. I usually have to press the espresso button twice just to pull a double shot, which takes forever, which is a reason I’m thinking to upgrade to the duo model or maybe give a manual machine a chance again

Troubleshooting & Maintenance TK-02 Not Brewing Correctly

TK-02 sat unused for around 5 months and now it is inoperable. The water comes out fine but even after running a descale, and cleaning cycle- the espresso just empties itself into the waste bin. Is there any recommendations on how I can fix this? I already tried poking the spouts and it seemed to let some through but still will not come out of them on a brew cycle. Thank you for any help!

unit is an oldie but a goodie! the milk no longer froths or even flows. it just sputters. I feel like this happened 6-7 years back and I just slapped 1 or 2 new rings on it. But can't find parts on their site. maybe since the machine is so old. any idea? I feel like there is supposed to be a red or orange one further back there? I would probably just go ahead and replace the black one too if they come as a kit. pic attached. thanks !

Discussion Eletta explore

Anyone having some trouble with the milk to coffee ratios? And overall heat of the drink? I find it to be so lukewarm and milky with every drink I make. I’ve already started using it so don’t think I’ll be able to return but highly disappointed as of now… was wondering if anyone knew of a way I can adjust the heat and how much milk comes out in the lattes!

Discussion I feel kinda dumb, but I found the best way to make a cafe tier iced latte with the DeLonghi Eletta Explore

A while ago I shared a good tip to improve iced lattes that are made with the DeLonghi Eletta Explore. It did help, but the iced lattes were still missing something.

The default iced latte setting uses cold brew which I thought was beneficial as the espresso was cold so it wouldn’t melt the ice and dilute the beverage; but boy was I wrong.

So much flavor is lost when using cold brew instead of brewing the coffee hot.

Here is what I now believe are the definitive steps to make a cafe tier iced latte with this machine:

  1. Add 3 pumps of your desired syrup (if any) to your cup
  2. Brew two separate medium sized strong espresso shots into the cup (coffee shops always do two shots in a latte and this machine does not by default)
  3. Then mix the coffee and syrup to dissolve the syrup into the coffee
  4. Then use the cold milk setting to add 5oz of milk to the cup and mix this in too.
  5. Finally, after the milk has cooled down the drink, add ice.

The taste difference is night and day. This is probably trivial knowledge for most here, but I thought I’d share anyway.

Lavazza La Colombe Nizza, 4.25 grind, 3 aroma, 14 seconds drip to drip. Machines about a year old. Would a 4 grind and 2 aroma be a move in the right direction? Or does it look ok?

It tastes fine enough but wouldn’t mind a smoother finish. ‘I don’t know what I don’t know’ n feel like there’s some go-to setting for this bean and/or machine Im missing… tia for any insight.
