Help My parents don't want me dressing up as Reimu
Hello, I apologize if this isn't exactly the right subreddit to be talking about this.
I'm a guy currently in my University. (will be relevant)
I really wanted to cosplay one of my favorite characters Reimu for a while this Halloween, and already started construction on the Gohei Stick. However my parents refuse to let me.
Mostly my mom, even though I tried convincing her for the past four days, she wouldn't budge. I educated her that she was a iconic character from one of my favorite video game series, and that I would even use my personal money to pay for it. It's not that she was worried about that though, her reasoning for not letting me, is that she's absolutely sure people at my university will bat eyes at me, ruin my reputation, and get bullied, and that I might end up regretting it.
I assured her people at my university are welcoming, and there are many cosplayers, espicially the Art Department, where I reside mostly at. But she still brushed it off thinking Im gonna look silly in person. And she later told me it was only "correct" to wear this if I was born a girl. I dont bother wanting to ask my dad because I know he is gonna yell at me for wearing something like this. I am thinking of sneaking outside the house without him knowing. I had plans for reusing Reimu for Touhoufest next year so it wasn't something gone to waste or just a one time use my mom thought so of. I am a little stuck of how ill go about this now, any form of advice or small suggestions is heavily appreciated. <3
TL;DR My mom is certain I'm gonna get bullied or looked down for cosplaying Reimu or anything feminine looking.
UPDATE: A close friend of mine managed to order the cosplay for me, Thank you all for your advice.
