Photo Nitrous addict apartment hallway

Post image

Some asshat with no braincells left this in the hallway outside their apartment. After some research this is about $2k worth of nitrous. That's a lot of desserts

Had to contact 911 today because some lady was constantly sucking on/hitting a balloon in the drive-thru.

u/HotVeganTacos 3h ago

This crap made my brother’s brain succumb to schizophrenia rapidly. We don’t know if he was always going to become schizophrenic, but this may have exacerbated and contributed to it so quickly.

19

u/VoteForLubo 2h ago

My friend’s son had a schizophrenic break after doing bath salts for the first time. It’s likely he had the genes, but the substance triggered it.

7

u/HotVeganTacos 2h ago

It’s so sad. 😞 I don’t think he will ever get the help he needs- hope her son is okay now 💙

16

u/BizBlondie 3h ago

This crap caused severe paralysis in my sister (subacute combined degeneration (SCD) of the spinal cord) due to it depleting her body of vitamin B12. After a long hospital stay & over a year of intense physical therapy she was able to walk & write again, but not everyone gets this lucky.

How to kill your brain very quickly 101

84

u/Windcastle10 7h ago

So pointless, the high lasts like seconds.

4

u/shberk01 3h ago

At that point, you might as well just get a helium tank from party store and take a few rips

1

u/Windcastle10 2h ago

Is that the same thing as nitrous?

2

u/shberk01 1h ago

No. Nitrous is laughing gas, like you'd get at the dentist (tho for medical use, it's cut with oxygen). Helium will make you super light-headed as well if you take a few good rips and is significantly cheaper by volume than nitrous.

40

u/VanFkingHalen 6h ago

It's okay, at least the stupidity lasts forever.

...wait.

91

u/flylysergic 9h ago edited 7h ago

The ironic part is all of that definitely cost a good bit of money, and when you get a straight up, smaller-sized, medical grade tank of nitrous, its like 300$ lmfao.

30

u/LockOtherwise4362 5h ago

Medical grade is almost impossible to find for a normal person someone has to risk their job for it

7

u/flylysergic 3h ago

You'd be surprised!

7

u/FoxySlyRedHead 3h ago

Not when you work for a large Private Equity dental firm with poor bookkeeping standards 😉

2

u/EverythingIzAwful 1h ago

So risking a job and probably prison lol

69

u/Rainbow_In_The_Dark7 9h ago

That's sad asf. Guy is destroying himself badly.

40

u/Redbullbundy 9h ago

I bet their b12 levels are soooo low.

33

u/McNemo 10h ago

That's just so much

62

u/cubicle_farmer_ 10h ago

That shit will put you in a wheelchair. Imagine not being able to walk again…

43

u/Snoo_64461 10h ago

That part is generally only temporary. it blocks the processing of vitamin B12, which is necessary for the function of your nerves, but as soon as you stop using it and start taking Vitanmin B12, it will reverse these effects. Not saying anyone should get addicted to Nitrous Oxide, but regardless, it won't permenently paralyze you.

6

u/ninjasteve3699 6h ago

I think someone lost feeling in their legs long term after huffing this. I’m sure with prolonged use someone could paralyze themselves

59

u/fakeitguy69 10h ago

Having lost a close friend to this last year. Please just dont.

12

u/inmypanic 9h ago

I’m so worried about this with one of mine….

55

u/please-end-this 10h ago

I’ve honestly been really curious about these and considered trying them, but after reading the comments here…… I think I’ll steer clear. I hope the person who put these out is doing ok.

28

u/LucyferEllysia 10h ago

I did it in my teens. I was never addicted. I was a wildchild. Niyrous is literally the dumbest. Doesnt last long, highs kinda mid, SUPER fkn dangerous.

I passed out a few times and can tell my brain works worse than before, 8 years later (24 now) and its the only drug ive done and REALLY regretted, and i took mdma which caused me to go through mankc depressive episodes for years.

10

u/Ep1cUser 6h ago

Basically same. It would be fun to do at parties in high school while everyone was drinking and smoking. But these didn't exist back then. We had to go to a certain head shop and buy the little metal ones and use a cracker (to open it) and a balloon to fill it.

15

u/TranquilMarmot 9h ago

Same. Tried it a few times in high school and I think it literally made me dumber afterwards.

16

u/greenteathief 10h ago

i have a friend that finally learned how to walk again at the age of 20. he was wheelchair bound and said even though he couldnt move his legs he said they felt like they were on fire 24/7. hes doing better now but its rough to watch someone go down that path. theres sooo many better alternatives!

27

u/Professional-Tea2326 10h ago

Just don't. If you have any type of addictive personality just dont. Dont do whips dont do kratom dont do opiates. They are all addictive and make your life worse. Save your money go on a trip explore the world. Try new food. Anything is better than be stuck in the rut of chasing a high

1

u/Roanoketrees 4h ago

Everything is addictive. Its not just certain things. There are people addicted to eating hair.

2

u/Professional-Tea2326 2h ago

Thats not a physical addiction

11

u/PunchDrunken 10h ago

It's not particularly worth it imo. I guess it's nice for some people but I was a twitcher when I went out and didn't like that feeling. And if you don't use it correctly or got oxygen in between it can kill you, let alone cause long term damage. It reminds me of drinking mouthwash or something. There are better options

82

u/Daddy_Tablecloth 11h ago

Not the same situation at all but I went to a "festival" in upstate NY in the early 00s. One guy had several large 5ft cylinders of nitrous and was selling balloons for like a dollar each. All weekend just the sound of balloons being inflated lol. Anyway, guy left the tank unattended for a few prob to use the bathroom and some moron decided to take a hit off the tank directly. Froze their lungs and died shortly after.

1

u/HotVeganTacos 3h ago

Oh my
Gosh

7

u/FunkSiren 9h ago

Phish?

3

u/Daddy_Tablecloth 8h ago

It was called spring fling or something like that. There used to (might still be) drug and music festivals there. None of the bands were mainstream, all amateur stuff if I remember correctly. It was more a drug swap meet than a music festival

17

u/FrogVolence 11h ago

I think i know what you’re talking about (born and raised in upstate).

That specific situation really changed things and it’s one of the reasons why now, if you went to a similar festival, you wouldn’t be able to take 5 steps without seeing security or a cop.

2

u/CLE-Mosh 7h ago

Still very much a thing around the hippie crowd... Nitrous Mafia in full effect... $35 a balloon, and selling fast... Staties and PoPo stood on the perimeter of Shakedown Street and let it all go... people openly seeling shrooms, etc...

https://www.npr.org/sections/waitwait/2010/07/08/128382603/-hippie-crack-and-the-nitrous-mafia

2

u/Daddy_Tablecloth 1h ago

That is insane. I'm not exaggerating that they were selling them for 3 dollars a balloon at the festival I was at. They also had 2 dollar hits of acid on paper, it was printed with eyeballs on it and was around for a long time. Two friends of mine got 2 full sheets for 200. Had acid for several years and made a bunch of money as well lol. I'm glad I don't mess around like that anymore but it was fun and I'm obviously Glad I never went too far and got hurt, at least not immediately.

1

u/CLE-Mosh 20m ago

Those WERE the daze... a lot of "acid" casualties back then, but I put 2 and 2 together and most of them were also big on hippie crack... not my cup of tea. I watched a dude 'helicopter" a balloon and face plant the concrete, and fracture his skull... not a good scene. Helicopter = squat down> hyperventilate> suck down the entire balloon while standing up...

1

u/Daddy_Tablecloth 18m ago

That's no fun. I didn't eff w nitrous ever, plenty of other things but not that. I just didn't like the idea of it which seems illogical with what my friends and I were doing that weekend lol.

6

u/Daddy_Tablecloth 10h ago

It was the last festival I went to. It sorta ruined it for me. That wasn't even the only person who supposedly passed away at that festival. Waking up and walking around that site (I think it was Afton NY) and seeing state troopers after hearing someone passed away killed the mood and made it too real to continue being fun. I didn't grow up in that area but drove up from the lower Hudson valley. I went to 3 of 4 festivals there over a few years but this one was my last.

3

u/FrogVolence 10h ago

Yeah, it happened in Echo Lake (its literally known as nitrous central there because the nitrous abuse was getting so out of hand).

Never went to one of those festivals due to that specific reason. Its not as bad as it used to be but theres still an issue.

3

u/Daddy_Tablecloth 8h ago

It was a lot of fun until it happened. So were the previous festivals I had been to. The constant live music and weird shit you'd see while totally fucked up was fun in my opinion. But yes I could see why someone would avoid going to such events So I can't blame you there. The weekends I spent at those festivals prob shaved years off my life, no way there won't be consequences for what my friends and I put ourselves through.

69

u/lacifx 12h ago edited 2h ago

i knew someone who was into nitrous and had lost all feeling in his legs. he eventually got to the point where he couldn’t feel his entire lower body and would constantly piss himself. didn’t stop him. addiction is a horrible disease.

80

u/OpiumPhrogg 12h ago

A friend of mine just passed away recently due to this shit. Came back from the hospital after getting skin grafts on the freezer burns all over his arms from these fucking things. Went straight to the shop to buy more, was found in his bed, dead curled up ,holding a tank. He had battled this addiction for years before it finally took him. For anyone who thinks that nitrous/whippits/hippy crack is just a harmless party drug - YOU ARE WRONG THIS SHIT IS HORRIBLY NASTY.

13

u/brodad12 12h ago

I heard a lot of the big risk is taking the rips right off the tank. If you fill a balloon first it alleviates that. That being said not something you want to do often, kills a lot of braincells

12

u/coondingee 11h ago

It also dramatically reduces you vitamin B12 levels.

7

u/dbznzzzz 10h ago

Don’t forget the deep vein thrombosis

62

u/AFallingWall 12h ago

What's trashy is selling this shit, especially in what looks almost like sippy cups for kids.

13

u/trickertreater 12h ago

It is sitting next to a kid's car seat so...

60

u/saor72 13h ago

I had a friend who fell to this. She died this last Summer. Less trashy and more it is just so sad to me. I hope they get the help they need so their people don't experience that.

12

u/Ready_Spinach9711 11h ago

I'm so sorry. 🫂

12

Thank you, kind person. I do appreciate the internet hug, very much. I hope your Fall is bright in color.

65

u/Curticorn 14h ago

addiction is an illness, not trashy

1

u/HotVeganTacos 3h ago

Trashy illness ? 🤷🏾‍♀️

62

u/Mobwmwm 12h ago

This is government housing meant to help people with kids back on their feet. That's a carseat next to the box. Leaving it in the hallway is trashy.

-6

u/Curticorn 12h ago

that part alone I can agree with. While being addicted you are still aware of your surroundings and should absolutely protect children from coming in contact with it.

being addicted in itself isn't trashy tho. it's an illness.

37

u/Joe_Bruce 12h ago

My heroin addiction was trashy

15

u/VisualDot4067 12h ago

Mine too. And I mixed in a side of crack with it

8

u/Joe_Bruce 11h ago

But it sounds like you’re talking past tense, which means we both made it, so air five for sure.

2

u/Psemperviva 8h ago

So close

51

u/virgo911 13h ago

It can be both, a bucket of used drug paraphernalia left in a public hallway is definitely trashy

39

u/NoCardio_ 14h ago

Trash is trash.

46

u/Dleslie213 14h ago

The two aren't mutually exclusive

-12

u/Curticorn 12h ago

imagine saying that about any other illness...

10

u/IronicIntelligence 11h ago

If a diabetic left an open box of used insulin needles in a pile of garbage outside their apartment door, they would rightfully be called trashy.

53

u/xxSpxrklexx 15h ago

when I moved into my apartment I’d find this shit in the trash room on my floor all the time. it stopped after a few months so the galaxy gas gods must have moved out

Neighbors be soundin like satan going WOOOOOOO all day and night😂😂😂😂

12

u/baconbag90 13h ago

Is this what my neighbor was doing? He would scream "YEAH YEAH YEAH" for hours at like 2 AM. I thought he was special at first so I just felt sorry for him and didn't do anything. Once I though it was drugs, I would stomp the floor or pound on his door when he started up

138

u/StrangeShaun83 19h ago

Nitrous is a bitch! I was hooked on ketamine for about a year. When my tolerance got really high for k I started mixing it with nitrous since they work and feel pretty much exactly the same. The nitrous helped kick in the trippy effects of the K. After a few weeks of daily use I started feeling really really shitty. Got blood work and found i was really low on b12. Apparently nitrous depletes b12 in the body.

17

u/deathbyupvotes 13h ago

Heavy users even get b12 shots just so they can keep doing nitrous

79

u/RoIf 19h ago

So many people dont know this. B12 is responsible for healthy nerves so the lack of it can even kill nerves leaving you disabled.

I can’t believe it’s that easily accessible and also as harmful to the respiratory system as it is

That shit is junk and aerosol

-21

u/WakeAndVape 16h ago

It's not harmful to the respiratory system, though...

12

u/kushglo 16h ago

Come on bro.. that's silly talk.

-18

u/WakeAndVape 16h ago

It's literally not, though. There's a ton of misinformation surrounding that drug. Not sure why people have to make stuff up.

11

u/8lbs6ozbabyjesus 16h ago

Mixed with oxygen in a professional setting, maybe. Recreationally, never a good idea.

-19

u/WakeAndVape 15h ago edited 15h ago

You do realize you can never fully exhale, right? Like even if you forcefully exhaled then filled your lungs with 0% oxygen gas, there is still oxygen in your lungs. I guess we should warn kids against holding their breath, though? No, we don't, because that's not directly harmful. And oxygen deprivation is dangerous to the brain, not the respiratory system like they claimed.

If oxygen deprivation truly were the worry though, humans have a great, life-saving reaction: loss of consciousness. You'd pass out and start breathing normal air before any harm was done to your brain.

But how come all of the arguments toward this drug being so dangerous are always from blatant mishandling or abuse? Why not talk about the dangers this drug poses when used normally? Because they're virtually non-existent. It really is such a safe drug that we have to make up pretend horrors.

28

u/jsilva5avilsj 19h ago edited 19h ago

It shouldn’t be anyone’s job or responsibility to govern the availability of a product bc morons use outside of its intended purpose.

The idea that ppl need big brother or some asinine campaign to “keep us safe from ourselves” is a waste of money and time.

24

u/2M4D 19h ago

Right. But these can intended purpose is to be used as drugs. It is sold as a drug. The maker sells it to drug users. The purpose is to be a drug.

0

u/mmmkay938 12h ago

It’s flavored for crying out loud.

-6

u/jsilva5avilsj 19h ago

I know that. You know that. The users, and makers know that. What’s your point? Drugs bad?

6

u/2M4D 18h ago

> It shouldn’t be anyone’s job or responsibility to govern the availability of a product bc morons use outside of its intended purpose.

Idk man it seemed important to you weather it’s being sold as a drug or not. So I’m telling you, this isn’t for whipped cream. This isn’t to clean your computer. This is sold as a drug and used for it’s intended purpose.

Maybe you meant, it shouldn’t be anyone’s job to govern the availability of any product ? Regardless of it’s intended use.

-2

u/jsilva5avilsj 18h ago

That’s a fair distinction, but it doesn’t really change the principle I’m arguing. If the product is actually being sold specifically for recreational drug use, then yes, saying people are using it “outside of its intended purpose” would be inaccurate in that case. My broader point is that the existence of irresponsible users does not automatically justify restricting availability to every competent adult. The relevant question isn’t simply “Is this being used as a drug?” It’s whether the risk and harm are substantial enough to justify limiting everyone else’s access. So I’d revise what I originally said rather than pretend the wording was perfect: people misusing a product, or even using a psychoactive product recreationally, is not by itself enough to prove that restricting its availability is justified.

5

u/2M4D 16h ago

Bro 😂

1

u/jsilva5avilsj 16h ago

Bro indeed.

-2

u/TyRocken 18h ago

Your libertarian rant ....

3

u/jsilva5avilsj 18h ago

Are you flirting with me?

5

u/jarvi123 19h ago

What? Have you never heard of prescription drugs? hahahaha By your logic pharmacies should just allow anyone to buy any medication that they want.

-2

u/jsilva5avilsj 19h ago

Whew! You must be on something really working your prefrontal cortex, bc you can’t possibly have understood my comment and thought that was equivalent to my “logic.”

2

u/jarvi123 18h ago

It's funny how you tell me I'm wrong without telling me how I'm wrong.

-3

u/jsilva5avilsj 18h ago

Ok contrarian, here you go… no self respecting adult would go to a pharmacy for a med that they didn’t need.

6

u/jarvi123 18h ago

Yes they fucking would, people abuse prescription drugs constantly. Have you not heard of what happened to the U.S? Very few people started on heroine, they started on some prescription opiate, but it becomes too expensive due to an increased tolerance and people switch over to heroin.

What about ketamine? Or amphetamines or benzodiazepines or cocaine? All of these are controlled medical drugs and are abused to high hell.

0

u/jsilva5avilsj 18h ago

I’m done after this.

You’re arguing against a position I never took. I didn’t say that nothing should ever be regulated, or that people don’t abuse prescription drugs. Obviously they do.
The distinction you’re missing is why prescription drugs are regulated. They aren’t controlled simply because somebody might use them incorrectly. Their intended use involves powerful pharmacological effects, dosage requirements, contraindications, dependency risks, and potentially serious consequences even when they’re being used for the exact purpose they were made for. That’s why medical oversight exists.
My point is that the mere fact that some people take an otherwise ordinary product and use it for an unintended purpose does not automatically create a responsibility for the government, manufacturer, or retailer to restrict everyone else’s access to it.
Listing opioids, benzos, amphetamines and ketamine just proves that controlled drugs can be abused. Nobody disputed that. What you still haven’t shown is why “some people misuse X” should, by itself, be enough to justify regulating X.
Those are two completely different arguments.

3

u/jarvi123 18h ago

"It shouldn’t be anyone’s job or responsibility to govern the availability of a product bc morons use outside of its intended purpose."

That's what you typed...

0

u/jsilva5avilsj 18h ago

You found a flaw in how broadly I worded my argument, not a flaw in the argument itself. Stop trying so hard to be right and just talk to me.

What is the intended purpose of flavored nitrous outside of getting high?? Lmao

-8

u/jsilva5avilsj 19h ago

Ohhh I absolutely ADORE when ppl “lmao” At their own comments! It shows such reassurance.

8

u/Dilbo_Faggins 19h ago

Lmao, alright bro

3

u/cassidyconor 18h ago

To make flavoured whipped cream. Seriously. You and I both know nobody is making whipped cream with these bottles, if they were they'd probably use those smaller chargers. But there's a popular brand of nitrous called fast gas and on their website they literally advertised it for culinary purposes.

1

u/jsilva5avilsj 18h ago

Not to mention restaurants or food services that have a high volume use the larger cans to replace having to use huge piles of smaller cans. So there most certainly is a use for the bigger canisters.

1

u/jsilva5avilsj 18h ago

Right, and that’s the distinction I was making. The fact that a product is commonly abused doesn’t magically change what the product is or what its legitimate intended use is. These are literally sold as food-grade nitrous oxide cream chargers, including by FastGas themselves. Large cylinders also have legitimate uses in commercial kitchens and bars where using dozens of tiny 8g chargers would be inefficient. Now, are people very obviously buying some of these giant flavored tanks to get high? Of course. I’m not pretending otherwise. But that actually gets us back to my original point: when people take a legitimately available product and use it recreationally or irresponsibly, at what point does their behavior justify restricting access for everyone else? “People abuse it” establishes that there’s a problem. It doesn’t automatically establish that restricting the product is the correct solution.

-43

u/3rdUncleMeatSandwich 20h ago

The problem is the size of the tanks. When it’s little silver cracker things it’s not that dangerous but people are buying these Galaxy gas size containers and asphyxiating. It’s because of the internet. I’ve been doing whip its for twenty years with zero problems and these idiots are ruining it for everybody.

6

u/-DoctorSpaceman- 20h ago

lol why have you been doing them for 20 years. It was fun to try it a couple of times but it’s just like a head rush for a bit. I really don’t see the appeal for sustained usage.

I will never in my life try these. I’ve been around people doing them before and I never felt so uncomfortable. 30 seconds of a high is worth it for killing your brain??

6

u/kuynhxchi 16h ago

There were a lot of balloon bars in Ha Noi in 2018 when I went, where you can buy nitrous balloons and huff them, my boyfriend and I hallucinated a whole life, i was living large in Miami and we had kids and cars everything, I’d never been to Miami at the time, it was all in like 15 seconds and the music banged loud in your head but you don’t care. Our trips ended at the same time and we looked at each other bewildered

-49

u/Hint-Of-Feces 21h ago edited 19h ago

If you do not abuse it, its pretty safe. We give it to kids

A weekend with one of those is pretty fun. Just dont drive and dont continuously use it.

Edit: we as in the medical system. Laughing gas is nitrous

Yall r lame

19

u/particle409 21h ago

It's pretty bad for you, relative to other recreational drugs.

-18

u/Hint-Of-Feces 21h ago

Compared to what? Weed, sure its way worse. Compared to psychedelics yes it has dangers. Ketamine, id say nitrous is safer.

Imo, its on par with prescription opiates for danger

0

u/EnTaroAdunExeggutor 20h ago

Weed is worse? Do you know what hypoxia is?

7

u/Hint-Of-Feces 20h ago

No the other way around

Im giving yall a genuine anecdote from an informed person with a chemical interest.

Its trashy to show your addiction to your neighbors

Its trashy to use that much nitrous

13

u/ComicSansKing 21h ago

Yea and prescription opiates are so extremely bad so comparing them nitrous is also extremely bad. Anything that clearly causes damage to your body is bad and making it out to be slightly less than other recreational drugs makes it seem like you yourself are a child addicted to nitrous.

-3

u/Hint-Of-Feces 20h ago

Addicted? Nah havent had any in years

2

u/Hint-Of-Feces 21h ago

🤷🏼‍♀️ I hallucinated a parisian city with airships

Its trashy to do this much yes, but I refuse to deny how fun nitrous can be. Just dont be fucking stupid yo

27

u/icantreadcat 21h ago

I tried it one time and it just felt like I was about to faint. I am prone to fainting in general sometimes and that is not a feeling I would find pleasurable. I don’t understand why people like it

Same here it NEVER looked appealing to me

2

u/Ressy02 23h ago

Uncomfortable how?

72

u/murpymurp 23h ago

Their lips all turned blue and they all sat there like cavemen for hours huffing these canisters. And they kept saying “you gotta try this!!!” to my friend and I, who kept politely declining. The amount they did was insane.

Nothing like central cyanosis in the lips to really make doing it look appealing!

They look like they are melting when they do it! It's horrifying to watch.

22

u/murpymurp 22h ago

Yes I wish they could have seen how scary it looked from our end of things. I thought eventually one of them would need an ambulance. They were almost in a stupor at the end of the night. Luckily, no one needed medical assistance.

I don't care at all about being wrong. I just think you're annoying.

As a medical professional, I've seen what nitrous oxide toxicity does to a person and it's not good. Last time I encountered it, bro had some sort of demyelinating neurological disorder that was linked to his nitrous usage. He had been using it for pain relief due to other chronic pain issues. He claimed he didn't know that nitrous could be so harmful. He was in his young 40's and couldn't stand. I ended up helping him get into rehabilitation to strengthen and be able to return home. He couldn't manage himself at home and it was causing other issues with his bodily systems. Don't fuck around with that shit, especially in large quantities.

Yes, I’m a neurologist and have seen this several times. Subacute combined degeneration is no joke and often there isn’t a full recovery from it… you just can’t walk anymore. People are always thinking about the hypoxia which is bad, but it is certainly not the only issue that this causes.

1

u/layout420 4h ago

Thanks for the confirmation. I've only seen it a few times in my career and it's pretty debilitating. There really should be a warning lable on the dangers it may cause. Some people are susceptible to making big life altering mistakes if they're not warned.

1

u/peanutbutterandjaymi 18h ago

Not to mention…they can literally explode and kill someone or seriously injure someone to the point of disability if it malfunctions. Theyre so mass produced nowadays theres like no regulations. Never seen one blow up but plenty of people i knew who used to do it would get burnt from them so severely they couldnt talk or eat for weeks.

Yeah I’ve seen some dumbfucks put their mouth directly on to giant medical tanks and then the valve before and I just kinda stood there and watched dumbfounded lol. Your body your choice but that’s a hell of a choice there 🤣

9

u/KhaleesiXev 21h ago

That’s horrifying. I wasn’t interested in this drug anyway, but thank you for affirming my choice to stay away.

u/Darksuit117 1d ago

I was around for the whippets in the 90s, can't imagine doing this much nitrous

8

u/CreepySquirrel6 1d ago

What happens when you inhale it?

7

u/elpollodiablox 23h ago

Ever hear of "laughing gas"? That's nitrous oxide.

2

u/CreepySquirrel6 23h ago

Right, thanks.

11

u/elpollodiablox 23h ago

They used to offer a bit of that stuff at the dentist before going to work on a cavity or a root canal, and it was awesome.

1

u/funkymunky_23 21h ago

You just got to ask now. I used to ask for it all the time, even just for a cleaning 🙃

1

u/Possible_Tiger_5125 22h ago

yes it was great lol

3

u/Thathathatha 22h ago

That stuff didn't do anything for me, maybe at most a little calm? Good thing it didn't matter because usually dental procedures don't phase me.

2

u/elpollodiablox 22h ago

That's mostly what they use it for, to relax people who are anxious about dental procedures. I only ever remember getting any when I was a kid and I had to have a whole bunch of teeth pulled because the baby teeth weren't falling out and the new teeth were starting to become impacted. It was like 15 teeth in total. That was a bummer of a time.

You get really lightheaded and giggly and spacey and feel whimsical tbh. The good part lasts less than a minute and then you just feel braindead and stupid tho. Not really worth it due to the incredible amount of brain cells it kills. Girl from a sketchy school in my small hometown ended up in a wheelchair because every time you do it you lose some braincells, and she just got unlucky that hers were the ones that made her walk.

Edit: another commenter clarified that my explanation wasn’t entirely accurate and it actually depletes vitamins necessary for your body to use its cells and send signals between them.

21

u/comfortablynumb0629 23h ago

That’s not accurate. Nitrous Oxide itself doesn’t kill brain cells, what can kill brain cells is if the user restricts the oxygen to their brain for prolonged periods of time.

Now what excessive use of nitrous oxide can do is cause severe vitamin b12 deficiency, which I suppose could eventually end up leading to paralysis if left untreated.

4

u/scemscem 21h ago

Ah I see my apologies thanks for the explanation. This girl wasn’t entirely paralysed but lost a lot of motor function and could no longer live independently

3

u/Hashtronaut_Mode 23h ago

That didnt happen but ok

5

u/Pure-Chemistry7323 22h ago

I injected some marijuanas once and my ear is permanently orange. Never try drugs, kids!

17

u/sh3ppard 1d ago

Why does this have any upvotes. Factually incorrect and a pretty terrible explanation of the high ngl

2

u/scemscem 21h ago

Sorry my comment wasn’t entirely accurate, apparently it depletes the vitamins needed for your body to send signals to use the cells. My explanation of the high was how it felt for me but everyone is different. I’ve linked the news article of the paralysed girl in another reply above if u think it can’t paralyse you lol

10

u/totallynotAhusky 1d ago

See this is what the side effects are. Not being able to understand basic facts from a lack of brain sells telling them to google

9

u/Fif112 1d ago

It’s at least a warning about how stupid you’ll get if you do this too much.

The commenter is clearly missing a ton of brain cells

1

u/scemscem 21h ago

? That’s not very nice. Someone has clarified that it depletes the vitamins your cells need to function which seems like somewhat of a thin hair to split, though I’ve since added my explanation wasn’t entirely accurate. I’ve linked the news article in a reply above if you don’t believe me lol.

-13

u/AussieDaz 1d ago

This is just bullshit. They use nitrous in medical settings.

4

u/scemscem 21h ago

Yeah mate they use fentanyl in medical settings too but it’s pretty fucking suboptimal for your health to inject it in your apartment every night

7

u/MuchoManSandyRavage 1d ago

So is morphine, that doesn’t mean when it’s administered improperly it can’t be harmful.

14

u/Yohgella 1d ago edited 1d ago

Continued heavy nitrous use depletes vitamin b which is essential for your central nervous system (brain, spine) to use its cells correctly, this damages neurons and your body's ability to send signals, which leads to paralysis, not being able to control your urine or bowels ( among other issues).

Medical setting it is precisely administered in both dose and time which doesn't cause any long term issues. It's why drugs like ketamine can be used in medical settings but cause awful damage if used recreationally and incorrectly.

Also - google is free

13

u/celestier 1d ago

Had a phase in the early 2010s, can't even imagine how many brain cells I lost lol. Not as much as this though, because now they're flavored????

11

u/Mulemcgruffjr 1d ago

Probably not the many as it mainly depleted b12, but it can kill some cells due to it replacing the oxygen in your lungs with nitrous.
