DISCUSSIONS VEEP is the best Sitcom released ever.
Veep is a comedic triumph, and its appeal extends beyond political interest.
The series feels authentic and has secured 17 Emmy Awards from 68 nominations.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus delivers an exceptional performance, reinforcing its standing among the finest television comedies.
VEEP is that show and I think everyone should watch it

Isn't it just a American remake of the thick of it? Now that was hilarious!

Sitcom?

Do you not know what that word means?
1
u/Fuzzy-Accident-3138 3h ago
No, I guess not. I think of Everybody Loves Raymond, Cheers, Friends, etc. as a “sitcom.”
Multi-cam, live audience, distinct episode plot (limited overall narrative).

u/Commercial_Fox5549 3h ago
It’s literally just a portmanteau of the words situational and comedy
1
u/Fuzzy-Accident-3138 2h ago
I think there’s more to it than that. Unless you agree that Barry, Silicon Valley, White Lotus, Succession, etc. are all sitcoms.
1
u/Commercial_Fox5549 2h ago
I don’t. Silicon Valley is indeed a sitcom, but your other examples range from black comedy to dramedy. You listed far too many genre-blended shows.
The key element of a sitcom is that it is 99% comedy.

So the “comedy” portion of “situational comedy” can’t include dark comedy or dramatic comedy. You just making this stuff up or have a source?
1
u/Commercial_Fox5549 2h ago
I’m not the confused one here, my friend. These are very common terms that have been used industry-wide for decades.
0
u/Fuzzy-Accident-3138 2h ago
Not confused, just overconfident. The definition is subjective, and you can’t point to a single source of truth that defines these things objectively. It could be a fun debate, but not with black and white people.
One last thing for you to noodle on: Bojack Horseman. Sitcom?
1
u/Commercial_Fox5549 2h ago
No, it’s not.
Bojack Horseman is heavily serialized and is filled with tragedy. Sitcoms are almost always reset to a general status quo every episode, with very little character growth.

Never heard of it

u/Commercial_Fox5549 5h ago
That’s impressive, considering it was very well loved, popular, and award winning

I love Veep, but for me, the best (or at least most consistently great from start to finish) is The Good Place.

You’re just going to get people listing their personal favourite sitcoms and belittling your view with posts like this! The thick of it was great to be honest! Not seen veep but I should

It can be a difficult watch for a non-American. The setup, terminology and workings of the us system are pretty dense to wade through if you haven’t been educated in it from an early age.

Hey if I could understand The Thick of It first...
Actually I think The Thick of It is a little better. But Veep is very good.

Its always sunny, curb, arrested, etc etc. I do have to give veep a chance tho. I started it but only watched an episode

None compare, it’s so much better, way denser and more intelligent. It’s even funnier if you follow current events.

You seen one season you’ve seen em all. Same shit for like seven years. If it’s gonna be like that I’ll watch Curb your enthusiasm.

I like it.
It's not that funny, though. Witty, but not laugh out loud comedy.
0
u/Commercial_Fox5549 2h ago
True. It only won 17 Emmy awards from its 68 nominations. Must not be funny.

Yes, that is how opinions work

Here’s an additional 82 wins and 256 nominations from across the entertainment industry, but [u/untakenu](u/untakenu) is of the opinion that the show isn’t funny, so don’t bother watching, guys.

Edit: contrary to what is stated below, no, OP did not ask for opinions. Blocking me isn’t going to change that fact.

And what's your sample size of sitcoms actively watched to come to this conclusion?
