I’m with U District Advocates. Last Saturday we closed University Way NE between NE 42nd and NE 43rd to cars as a pilot, and I wanted to share a short video of how it looked.
Tomorrow, Saturday, October 17, is the second and final day, 11am to 8pm. It’s free. There are games, a giant chess board, live music, and cafe seating, and the farmers market is nearby until 2pm. The U District light rail station is a block away.
We’re counting how people use the block with SDOT’s Public Life Data Protocol, so the results can be compared with the city’s existing data. If you stop by, I’d like honest feedback, including what didn’t work. I’ll answer questions in the comments.

I just paid my tuition in full a day after the due date for the autumn quarter. I was not given a late fee and I do not owe any money, but will I likely still receive one? I'm freaking out since I forgot about it.

So I am student who are looking for stem undergraduate research opportunities, and I just got rejected!(yay?) Tbh, I’m almost gonna burn out because I went through interview… To those who have undergraduate research position, how many interview/meetings you went through until you get research positions? I know many people sent 20-30 cold emails but I wanted to know how many interviews people go through in UW.

Genuine question—how do people land undergrad research positions like this? I’ve been emailing professors (specifically looking to get into plasma science) and sending polite follow-ups, but I’m getting completely ghosted.
For those of you who managed to get into a lab, what actually worked? Should I be showing up to office hours, reaching out to grad students instead, or changing how I write my emails? Any advice on breaking the silence would be hugely appreciated.

Looking to hear how other commuters have been affected by the Fast Ferry reduction in sailings. I know there aren't many of us, but would love some data to share with the UPASS advisory board.
Are you having to take the WDOT ferry home? How much is it adding to your monthly expenses? Are you leaving earlier to catch the morning fast ferries or taking a later WDOT?
Would it be helpful if your UPASS included the state ferry?

Im a third year anthropology major. I genuinely really am interested anthropology but I’m considering switching majors to something else because the department seems so disorganized, sporadic class offerings that are mostly hyperspecialized and so many classes in the catalog that are never offered, and lack of concern for quality undergraduate teaching. How can an anthropology department at a major university skip over religious, economic, political anth? And some of the classes are so unserious. They have 200/300 level courses with final projects like “make a zine”. I see other departments including in the humanities and social sciences that have rigor, special programs, events, seminar series, structure to the courses, while the anthro department is so inactive. This is a stupid complaint but it reflects the overall state of the department: the department offices are totally blank and featureless. It doesn’t help that I’m abroad rn taking anthropology classes and can see the potential for what a great department looks like. Yeah we have the Burke and some profs who do cool research but being an undergraduate in the department feels dead-end (the exception is the archaeology major which I am not doing, I worked in a profs archy lab and didn’t enjoy it). I’ve had a couple good classes but I don’t know if I can see myself sticking out anthro thru graduation. Anyone else have similar experiences?

Hi guys
Idk why post RN but it's not even midterms and I'm already burnt out. Everything's changing and my credits keep digging into my butt yo.
Like it's easy ahh credits is the worst part
And it's not even me not knowing it it's me not doing it. And Ive been working on it and trying and I'm locking in this weekend to save my grade but i don't even know if it's gonna be enough to retain a solid grade
Also the social scene sucks but I'm glad to have met a few cool people on campus

Idk who's in charge of it, but can we reopen this? It's been 3 weeks and soundlab hasn't opened. I heard there isn't much work left to do. If you're in charge and you're reading this let's get to work; dorm fees are high for a reason.

I plan on declaring a finance major, I learn best in class during lectures and rarely skip them.
Mark fits my schedule so much better but really grasping the concepts and being set up well for the rest of my Fin upper divisions is my goal.
Looking for as much advice as possible.

Hii, I applied to SARP like a week ago, and I was just wondering if anyone knows if they've already gotten back to everyone who got in. I haven't recieved a response yet and was wondering if I should just assume I didn't get in

This is my favorite study spot on campus. One plug gives you a second screen, a mouse, AND charges your laptop. I've only seen a couple of them in Suzallo tho, is there another one somewhere else?

Hello,
I (m, mid 20s) transferred to UW in winter term of 2026. I'm not the most outgoing person and I feel a bit awkward being older than most undergraduate students, but I would like to get involved in more activities and hopefully make some friends. Does anyone have any recommendations of clubs, RSOs, or other activities to get involved in?
Thanks.

Webcheck payment is down, and I cannot pay my tuition fees. Has anyone experienced the same thing?

Last night at approximately 8:30pm, I was waiting for my bus stop when I heard a man yelling. He jaywalked across the street, removed his shirt and charged at a woman. She evaded him. I yelled at the man from across the street but I had to wait for traffic to die down before crossing. He continued this behavior causing another woman to run across the street to get away from him. Once again he crossed the street still yelling and charging at women. He eventually ended up on NE Pacific St, where after yelling at a seated man and later a group of girls, I confronted him. He became docile and it was very apparent he was intoxicated. He crossed to the opposite side of the street as me so I called the SPD, being the UW police building was closed at the time. I lost track of him but after talking to lightrail security, they informed me they also had a confrontation with him. He ended up riding the light rail southbound at around 8:50pm. SPD never asked for any updates nor did I see them arrive on the scene.
He was specifically targeting women by themselves. When it came to the seated man and the group of girls, he was much more tame likely because he felt intimidated. In the other cases, he was less than a foot of away from his targets while charging. He knew his way around campus so he’s likely been before.
Stay safe yall.
somebody pls drop their workout routine im trying to get buff asf with abs. I just started going and I need help

Hey! I'm putting together casual weekend bike rides through downtown Seattle and other parts of the city. Each ride is about 2-3 hours (maybe more), with routes from Komoot. If you're interested, comment or DM me and I'll share details on timing and meeting spots.

Just moved to Seattle for my engineering grad program. I’ve made some friends through work, pickleball, gym, and so on. But I’ve yet to make proper UW friends, esp because campus was pretty quiet this summer.
