OC Hikikomori flag
I have designed a flag and a symbol for hikikomori - people who live in social isolation.
The color black signifies a rejection of participation in society.
The color white represents purity and a commitment to the hikikomori way of life.
The black circle is a reference to the red circle on the flag of Japan.

the black bars look like walls literally closing the person in to me, not sure if that was intended but i like the design :)

Why would people who reject society want a flag which is purely a social concept?

That’s a good question. But it seems to me that symbolism can also be a personal matter.

For example, I have two flags hanging in my room, but I hardly ever talk to anyone.

because it's pretty and flags don't cast judgement unlike people

Hikikomories don’t entirely reject society. Isolation is more abstaining from society, often there is a rejection of certain aspects of society though.

IMO, the design would be stronger without the black bars at the top and bottom.

I think it would be better with the same width black bars on the left and right as well, to make it look like the black circle is in a room with no exit.

That’s actually a brilliant idea

I agree with you

I’m not sure whether any changes should be made; I proposed a concept—an idea or phenomenon—in the form of a flag that embodies *hikikomori*.

In that case, it would just be the Japanese flag, but with a black circle instead—whereas what I did was include a reference.

You’re right, but I just feel that the stripes give the flag a slightly more "official" or "state-like" feeling. I think a plain white flag with a black circle would work better as a grassroots symbol for the people.

This thing isn't limited to just Japan, in China they have a thing called laying flat which is basically the same thing, and I think South Korea as well has a similar phenomenon, but yeah can't really blame them when you either live in both ideological dystopias.
