Dude, I have been saying this for YEARS!!! When they cast Marky Mark as Max Payne when the actor that did his voice WAS ALREADY AN AWESOME ACTOR and looked SO COOL. Tell me this guy wouldn't have BLOWN Wahlberg out of the water!!! But these hack writers and directors all think they know more than the creators and actors from the games. And the results are trash.
Yeah man, it was the other way around for me funny enough. I grew up loving Max Payne 1 and 2 as a kid. Started watching Rescue Me when it came out, I was a teen by then and I was like "this dudes voice sounds so familiar" lmao blew my mind.
James also has roles in Control and Alan Wake 1 and 2, Remedys more recent games. I highly reccomend checking those out if you want to hear more of his work. Alan Wake 2 is my favorite horror game of all time.
Dude, such a massive loss. I was really sad when it happened. One of my favorites. The thing that baffles me most is, how did he NEVER get cast as batman, animated or live action???
Reminds me of Rocky 1. Sylvester Stallone wrote the script and wanted to be in the movie himself, since he felt no one could do a better job than him. Hollywood loved the script, but hated the idea of having Stallone star in his own film. Hollywood wanted to star more recognizable faces.
Stallone had to negotiate down to become the star, so execs settled on making it a film with a "small" budget of $1 million that debuted in select test theaters and Stallone was only paid a flat fee of just $35,000 upfront to cover both writing the script and starring as Rocky. Thankfully, Stallone negotiated a 10% net profit contract clause for the film.
Anyways, my point is we might not even be talking about Rocky as a franchise today if Stallone had simply sold the script. Hollywood is too afraid to take chances. That's why Pedro Pascal is in so many films.
There really isn't.
It bears no resemblance to the game in any form.
It's not even Shyamalavatar level of bad adaptation. It's like they just made a generic cop movie and later decided to slap the Max Payne name on it, like 2012's Total Recall.
Is that really a fair comparison, though? Both Total Recalls are spy thrillers about class warfare. The difference between them was the location in how the theme was expressed with the 2012 being a more modern (see: more immediate relevant possible future) take.
Maybe not. To be fair I just thought the movie sucked.
I don't actually remember anything about it, but I remember thinking it was just a generic sci-fi movie at the time.
On a related note, it's worth pointing out that Rockstar did kind of an "adaption" with Max Payne 3 when they took it over from Remedy; and showed how to treat your source material with respect while still getting your own ideas in. That game was an alround improvement, the changes they made worked in the context, and they FINALLY had Jim -in his absolute prime- do a full performance rather than just the voice.
TBF it could've happen but the rights on the Max Payne were given to Rockstar games and they do not much care about games as an art but easy money from microtransactions.
I 100% agree. That would’ve been incredible. They missed out big time. We all did. RIP James McCaffrey.
I still feel the loss as a fan but I’m glad I got to experience his work from childhood to adulthood. I was a sad kid who was left alone a lot. I got to be Max Payne for hours and idolised him. Such a great character. He was flawed & deep. I was never alone when running around run down apartments with Max Payne! “Something wicked which way comes. Max Payne at large.”
