Recommendations Y’all give me the Worst WEBTOON you have read
I’m kinda bored that number one
Two…it’s to show how glad I’m to have discovered the good ones
Three I want to challenge myself to see how long I will continue reading, so GIVE ME YOUR WORST
P.S I may update that’s if you want one.

"A life through selfies", it's trying to be a thriller and a slice of life at the same time but it does neither of them well. The characters are nonexistant, i am not interested in the MC's life, i can't even name a single one of her character traits. and the thriller aspects only show up once in a Blue moon. This webtoon has somehow managed to do nothing in 300+ chapters

I was surprised to see Webtoon have advertising for it. It uploads so slowly now after the author addressed the hate the comic gets a couple years ago.
And the description of the story has changed too, where it said something along the lines of watch Arianna (MC) and try to piece together who killed her. Now the whole main premise isn’t in the comic description.
9
u/Dumber-Sleepy-Artist Aug 02 '26
I didn't notice that actually. Maybe that's why the story feels like it's floating in a void now. It always kind of felt like that but it feels like nothing has happend since new years when they arrested the stalker(???)

u/YodellingSeal Aug 02 '26
13
u/Dumber-Sleepy-Artist Aug 02 '26
I feel like they're trying to be a slice of life. But that genre heavily relies on it's characters. And This series just straight up doesn't have those. The only things i know about Arianna is that she wants to be a model and posts too much of her life on social media

u/medli20 Aug 03 '26
Tbh I grew up on loooooong old-school webcomics that do like one page a week over the course of 10-15 years, so I’m pretty patient about high episode counts and slower-paced work.
But like. This was on another level. Two weeks for one (1) panel is already pushing it, and then having like 20 updates in a row (40 weeks!!!) that don’t advance the plot, build up to anything meaningful, or tell us anything about the world or characters is wild. I don’t really follow it anymore but I’m shocked they decided to continue the comic after the primary conflict wrapped up. I’m even more shocked that there are people who stick around for it.
4
u/Dumber-Sleepy-Artist Aug 03 '26
I kinda stick around for it only because i've spent too much time reading it to not see the ending. A part of me hopes the killer is coming back to kill her one day. But i mostly just forget about the series until i'm reminded about it months later
3
u/medli20 Aug 03 '26
Honestly that's probably one of the healthier ways to engage with it-- I was mostly referring to the readers who have less healthy relationships with the work they read.
I took a look at it not too long ago after forgetting about it for a couple years and the number of people who were still leaving really vitriolic hate in the comments was surprising (...but also pretty expected tbh). Maybe I'm biased because I've gotten similar comments on my own work from time to time, but I think if it gets to that point it might just be time to stop reading instead of browbeating the author into changing their comic into a work that they're clearly not interested in making. 😅
That said it'll be nice to see if it ever reaches a conclusion.
8
u/MouseDriverYYC Aug 02 '26
I'm convinced that I'm just reading it for the pain. Like everyone else who embraces the pain of 'A life through selfies'... we're waiting for a reason that we stay.
I don't know how long it's been since I actually started reading it, but I was shocked to be reminded that it actually started in February 2017... Nine friggin' years for it to cover 13 months. The pain continues...
5
u/CryptographerNo7608 Aug 04 '26
It honestly wouldnt be an awful premise it's just poorly executed, I also wouldn't make it a webtoon but rather an actual Instagram page

I cringed after the comment a coach made about an 8-year old girl, discussing her potential sex with his son, who was also just a child. I think the police should have checked the PC of its writer. :/ Stopped reading after that, if there's more cringe underway I am not sure I want to know.

Spoiler "Female lead has 2 daughters who develope romantic feelings for their mothers failed romantic options. Since they are grown men they won't cross that line since the girls are teenagers. The girls arrange to get themselves cast into the past so now they are closer in age with these men...so then they can be in a romantic relationship with them..."
13
u/NeonFraction Aug 03 '26
…I’m sorry what?
…
WHY?!?!
11
u/Rubix_Qb Aug 03 '26
Exactly. Reading that ruined the whole thing. These men are old enough to be their father and these teenage girls are in love with them, but they won't take their flirting and romantic gestures seriously because the girls are teenagers and they are grown men. So they arrange with a mage to cast them into the past so they can be closer in age with these guys.

I cant remember his name, but the one with brown hair, the female leads fiance was my favorite. He was so sweet with her and he actually loved her, but since he was always away because he was a soldier, she didnt really know him and didnt like him...i screamed at her to take 2 seconds to talk to him, to actually take the time to know him...however he lost points with me for getting with her daughter...

Omg I don't remember the name since it's been a while but there was webtoon around 2021 about a rainbow haired boy(?) and a chubby mean goth girl which was supposed to be this super LGBT+ inclusive story but its execution was rather offensive and super cringy, and I hated it's main characters so much haha
Edit : I remembered the title it's called Acception

I feel attacked lmao, read all 300+ episodes currently out yesterday. Is it cringe? Yeah, but I think that’s the point? They’re intentionally over exaggerated, at least the main two are. I think the side cast is much more realistic and I actually really like how the story shifts focus over to them pretty often, it really lets them become fleshed out as characters.
The dialogue is the only thing that I don’t think improved over the many years it’s been out, it’s not even that bad but every once in a while some characters will have a really deep conversation and it just doesn’t feel like them talking anymore. It’s easy enough for me to get past it though.
Anyways, TLDR Acception is actually a pretty funny slice of life story and you should read it for the side characters if nothing else I LOVE YOU LOLA

Honestly I pretty much completely dropped it after almost all of Delilah’s actions were explained by “oh she had abusive parents”, meanwhile we are never shown the actual harm she did to Kade, despite having been teased the entire story about how traumatised she made him. But NOPE, she had a bad childhood so it’s okay to abuse her partner, all is forgiven. Could’ve had a great story about a male abuse victim learning to love again but no the entire season finale was spent on Delilah’s childhood because out of all the characters, she was the most deserving of a “redemption arc”

True Beauty, Lore Olympus, Subzero. These all started out so well and then took a nose dive.
35
u/TamblynRosendahl Aug 03 '26
I know, such a shame about subzero! It was my favorite for a while, and then it became clear that the series was going to rely on misunderstandings and a dragged out "evil enemy" plotline. I don't need 400 episodes for this. Give me the story in 200 or less or it's just too messy.
16
u/BaronessPuka Aug 03 '26
I feel like you had to read these in real time to be in on the hype bc i did a reread without the fanfare for both and it did not hit the same
12
u/vxfnt Aug 03 '26
I was there for the hype. I read them all in like 2020 and dropped them like a year later because they dragged on with nothing interesting.
And I don’t mind long running comics. I still read unOrdinary and Castle Swimmer.
3
u/poisonedkiwi Aug 04 '26
I was there when Lore Olympus got picked up off Discover (Canvas). The hype around it was so massive, but I didn't actually pick it up until late 2018 because I wanted to know what all the hubbub was about. It wasn't really my thing and I dropped it after about a month, but the hype definitely helped I would say. Probably wouldn't have read as much of it, without it.
18
u/Training_Door5054 Aug 03 '26
true beauty isn’t that bad in my opinion. the story hella drags but it’s fun to read when i just want to enjoy a story without thinking too much
13
u/vxfnt Aug 03 '26
Tbh that can be said about any of the “bad” webtoons. They can be good for low energy reads.
But I also disagree. It gets pretty boring. The MC loses personality. And it doesn’t really make much of a statement about beauty standards anymore.

3
u/CryptographerNo7608 Aug 04 '26
I think the drama in the beginning was very intriguing though I couldn't stand how it treated Navier as if she was perfect, she would've been a cool immoral protagonist.

11
u/StatisticianOk8410 Aug 03 '26
I remember reading a comment saying that the divorce was going to happen in Chapter 50 or something. So I literally watched ads and spent coins to get to those chapters.
After being disappointed, I dropped the webtoon.
Years after, I suddenly remembered about the webtoon. I checked fir spoilers for the plot after Chapter 50*.
Oh boy, I was first confused, then outraged about Heinrey. Now, even when I was reading the story, I never really had a positive view about Heinrey – I just read webtoons for the entertainment – especially with the bird scenes.
But the spoilers made him look even worse. Like, arranging Rashta's spy to get Navier, taking away children's magic from the enemy nation, the magic bed that overrides induced infertility, etc.
Now the last part is just an annoying plot point that lacks characterization and organic character development.
I grew to dislike The Remarried Empress solely because of Heinrey. Sovieshu and him are at the same level of disgust for their actions.
Now, I agree Rashta did terrible things, but Heinrey was literally the mastermind of pushing her into her villian role.

It’s the fact that it tries to deliver feminist messages but ultimately defeats it’s purpose cause eventually the misogynistic writing got out of hand
7
u/Relevant-Rub2816 Aug 03 '26
Calling TRE feminist which a lot do, is the same as Calling cry or better yet beg as a healthy romance story.
A pro woman story wouldn't have a raped slave as an antagonist and blame her for getting raped.

What did she do? I read this so long ago I forgot
37
u/Specialist-Owl2660 Aug 03 '26
Ok I'm putting tons of space for spoilers. . . . . . . . . . . . . . Okay that should be enough. So once her real identity was revealed and the big conflict resolved, the male lead felt super guilty for basically tormenting and torturing her for years. Mainly only because she turned out to be the secret girl that he was looking for all those years. Mind, you had she not been that secret girl. He would have felt zero guilt for torturing her. This is like really established. He felt no guilt for the what he put her through until the second he found out her true identity.
She chooses to leave and starts healing. But he starts falling into depression because he can't "live without her" and basically, she gets back together with him, because he's going to literally himself if she doesn't decide to be with him. And she decides that she wants to be with him after all.
It's a horrible message about letting somebody gaslight, you, mentally abuse you and then continue to abuse you by threatening to kill themselves to ensure you act and do what they want.

SHE GOES BACK?!😭🤣
12
u/Specialist-Owl2660 Aug 03 '26
Yeah, not because she's not able to heal and be healthy, but because he literally threatens to off himself if she's not with him.
5
u/Just-College1491 Aug 03 '26
Yeah because she thinks that it’ll be very selfish of her if she let Karloi rot in his misery and if he decides to off himself she’ll never forgive herself for that.. also she couldn’t fathom the idea that the kingdom will be left without a king/heir so she reclaimed her queen status/ role
5
u/Successful_Seat_7173 Aug 03 '26
Lmaoooo you can just tell the author thought this was the FL's kind heart or some bs like that..I honestly hate how much authors will push the 2 characters together because they want "a happy ending" like what how on earth is her returning to an abusive husband happy???
4
u/Just-College1491 Aug 03 '26
Author deciding to make Rue in the end a baby making machine for Karloi fried me af Wdym you’re going back to your abuser.. the message was so wrong.. I get it that they wanted to deliver a romance story but sometimes just because characters have feelings for each other doesn’t necessarily mean that they should end up together. She should have embraced the fact that she loved him and breaking free from him. Also the baby’s appearance, her genes didn’t even try 😭😭

u/SwimminglySpunky Aug 26 '26
I hate how infantalized Sam was. Instead of it being a game dev standing up for herself with a side story of her journey in building confidence and sexual discovery, it just turned Sam, THE MAIN CHARACTER into a plot device to help male characters have their arcs.
She acted like such a fawn the whole time, and everyone around her was set to treat her like an infant. Disgusting.
12
u/MinaWearsGold Aug 02 '26
I can’t really think of any that were complete garbage. There were plenty I didn’t like for various reasons but even those had their good points.
If I had to pick I guess I’d go with True Beauty. The main character became so bland and the second male lead was clearly the superior of the two and the only one with character growth but of course she didn’t end up with him.
5
u/Consistent_Look3397 Aug 03 '26
This!!! It's like after Suho came back she just...turned into a doormat, and everything she had going with Seojun was like it never even happened.
It's like Yaongyi started falling for Seojun herself, remembered Suho was supposed to be endgame, and then did a hard 180 and forced Seojun out of the picture. As a writer I know that feeling but guess what? It means the story is writing itself and I LET it.
2
u/MinaWearsGold Aug 03 '26
Yeah I had to quit the story out of frustration because Seojun was there for her and he worked hard to grow as a person and move forward and improve his life. All Suho did was leave without contact and then act sad the whole time. He was boring and stagnant. Jugyeong losing all drive and personality just to be someone the boys could react to was so lame.
2
u/Consistent_Look3397 Aug 06 '26
I liked Suho before he left. But after he came back it's like you said, he got boring. It's like whatever personality he had before was gone. Jugyeong too. I stopped reading for a year, right after Suho came back and I realized he really was going to be endgame in the most boring way possible. I read the last few episodes just so I could close that chapter of my life for good and was SO disappointed that Seojun didn't even get a proper ending for himself. For something so dragged out, the ending was so rushed.

The princess's jewels. The author wants us to see the main character as an amazing girlboss when she uses her position of power to enslave a harem. including dark-skinned men.
Like, okay. Have the horny power fantasy thing but don't try to make the girl seem like she's a girl boss.

Definitely "Blood Reverie". I love the premise and the first season was a really fun read. But season 2 starts with a lot of info dumps (walls of text in word balloons!) & the author started using AI for their artwork.

And knowing that she was dating him keyin cheats by getting with the Ethan dude while he was still with Marcella and apparently the reason why both Ethan and keyin decided to cheat and hurt Marcella was because Ethan apparently had an "alpha complex" or whatever bullshit?? u/Reesirie Aug 03 '26
I don’t like reading bad webtoons but there was one manhwa I hated, I believe it was called, “Like a Fox.”
So the basic premise of the series actually starts off pretty interesting. The mc is part of the royal family and all the children have to participate in a game where they have to murder one another if they want to get on the throne. Cool concept right?
The mc makes it to the final 4, it being her and 3 of her brothers. She ends up dying of poison, but gets reincarnated like 10 years in the past. Now you’d think this would be some sort of set up so she can either win the game or stop it?
Well stopping the game pretty much IMMEDIATELY gets taken off the table because instead of actually doing anything interesting or fun with the concept of being reincarnated, the mc just pretends to be insane for like 10 years.
Apparently this is supposed to make her feel less threatening to her siblings? (Personally if I was one of her siblings I’d just think of her as a free space on a bingo card, but whatever.)
So somehow she gets away with act for years and years to the point where it’s just 3 of them left now. Her and 2 of her brothers. I’m not sure how she survived that long because at least one of said brothers doesn’t believe her act.
Anyway it’s down to the final 3 and you know what happens instead of the mc doing anything interesting or using her intellect? She gains random powers.
I honestly couldn’t believe my eyes. I couldn’t get past this. It’s like they picked every option to make the beginning of the story less interesting than its actual premise.

Love me to death had a really interesting setup at the start. Victor and Mercedes growing closer while Enrique was trying to get her back was a good dynamic, but the later direction felt kinda messy. The love triangle turning into something else didn’t feel natural, and that’s where I lost interest.

honestly its not too bad in my perspective. i always see pins that title it bad poly rep. it just gets really overhated. it's not amazing and 100% my taste but it's not the worst thing ever that people make it out to be either

u/Latter-Syllabub-5560 Aug 03 '26
Yeah, i'm not polyamorous but imo it is Bad Poly Rep purely because The start is basically just cheating
But the whole Word it's just pastel, happines and wholesomeness of course it's just going to be overtoo cutesy and does'nt try to come off as anything more deep or nuanced

2020 reddit definitely hated it too. I remember there was a time when there was a ban on speaking about boyfriends lol

u/Strict-Radio9051 Aug 02 '26
It's not bad it's just a comedy webtoon about a polycule. It's very camp and while it's not for me I feel like the fact that people hate it is more so because people are 1) queer phobic 2) so scared of being cringe
3
u/ShinYoo-Yeonggi Aug 02 '26
Why ? Just curious, I saw that on webtoon.
18
u/glitchygirly Aug 02 '26
I personally have no issue with it. Its just a product of its time. It didn't help that it was released and became very popular when webtoon started releasing ads so it was heavily pushed to a demographic that didn't care for it. Its kinda cringe, and its about a polycue

I really liked Prep and Goth. I would have read a whole story woth just those two. Nerd is the worst
2
u/Playlist_DJ Aug 03 '26
I never finished it (read about 60 chapters) but omfg I hated that Nerd was constantly treated (and drawn) as some cute smol bean while also acting the most hypersexual out of the four ://

The wrath and the dawn. Its so popular abd I hate it. It romanticizes sexual assault. The king kills his brides every and the MC marries him to avenge her dead bsf. She doesnt want to but sleeps w him so he can like her so she lives. He did that BELIEVING HE'D KILL HER THE NEXT DAY. HE KNOWS SHES SCARED & PROB DID THAT TO LIVE BC OF THE POWER IMBALANCE. yeah they fall in love and him killing gets explained away by llot or smth idk i dropped it.

Hmm idk. I didn't get that impression from them once they got to that point. It's also an adaptation of a very old story.

Divorcing my tyrant husband. Cant remember much and dropped it early but basically its a transmigrater story. The empress, the transmigrator, tries divorcing the abusive cheating tyrant emperor. It ofc makes him want her more. Dropped it when she started falling for him im pretty sure they end up together.

Twilight Poem, and I'm gonna spoil that shit idc.
"Main" love interest fluctuates between abusive, possessive, caring. No in between.
The REAL love interest and end game guy??? Is the reanimated/possessed corpse of Soru's (MC) DAD.
The story started so interesting, leaving aside Jahyeon's constant changes and him just seeing Soru as an inconvenience then as STONKS cuz she can heal any wound and bring people back from the brink of death, cuz she's a Celestial being, mixing demons and political intrigue and then the author of the light novel and manwha went "It's time to forget about all this and pull the ace up out sleeves"
WHAM! The sexy human mecha demon that's been trying to bag Soru? Her dad is the mecha suit, she loves the demon, Yato, and leaves Jahyeon who was beginning to get BETTER at being a good husband, for Yato.

I don’t share your opinion at all, this manhwa "Twilight Poem" is definitely worth reading.
This series was adapted from a novel, and the studio in charge mistreated its artists, so they left the project and the ending was rushed and botched. Many elements of the novel, particularly those concerning Yato and Soru’s relationship and daily life, were omitted. In fact, readers of the novel recommend reading the novel to better appreciate the story and the relationship between Yato (ML) and Soru (FL).
Jahyeon, Soru’s husband, was a proper arshle, and if I were to list everything he did wrong, the list would be a long one… He treated her poorly, never listened to her and was constantly making her cry… In the manhwa, there was apparently an attempt to whitewash him, since in the novel his behaviour is even worse and he cheats on Soru with Garan, the woman he originally wanted to marry.
Given everything he did in the manhwa, Jahyeon deserved to be dumped by the FL and for her to end up with Yato, who was always there for her and always treated her well.
As for Yato, the ML, you’ve forgotten to mention that Yato killed Soru’s father because the father tried to kill his daughter, Soru, when she was a baby. Yato killed the father to protect Soru, so she never knew her father and didn’t even know what he looked like!
In the novel, at the end when Soru and Yato end up together, Yato physically looks different from her father. He’s described as a handsome man but no longer resembles her father. However, this change didn’t happen in the manhwa, most likely due to the fact that the mistreated artists left the project.
That said, this manhwa was a huge success in 2023, and Yato was much loved. He deserved to be the ML and to have a happy ending with Soru 💕!

u/Specialist-Owl2660 Aug 03 '26
Oh man was it recent? I don't remember when I checked in last but she still hadn't when I checked in. What chapter? It doesn't really matter as I got bored of the entire story, but I still wanted to see her finally transform.

The one where the fl starts out fat and loses all her weight in a magic bath with the power of positive thought or some bs like that. I couldn't even finish the episode.
There was another one where the fl is betrothed to the underage sociopathic son of the eventual ml (who looks about 20 years old because ✨️magic✨️) and she goes on an anti-corset tirade where she rips her clothes off and flashes all her "evil" maids in like the first or second episode. Couldn't get past that one, either.
Beloved by the Male Lead's Nephew started out cute but towards the end went suddenly, completely, and very confusingly off the rails. I'm still annoyed by it.
And of course, The Blood of Lady Giselle, for obvious reasons.

I fought my way through many awfull stories, but the one i couldn't finish was As if love doesn't exist. Imagine going back in time and getting a second chance, but you do NOTHIBGN BUt WHINE AHZHSBEKZB. I hate her i hate the story i wish her new fate was worse than the first. the baddies are also comically stupid, of course they had to be, our do nothing heroine wouldn't have been able to change her fate without those idiots doing all the work for her. Just thinking about it pisses me off.

Red hot revenge I think it’s called ?
FL’s husband is a p*dophile he basically raises the Princess and wants to impregnate her to take the throne
2nd male lead is the duke who is the most well written character and antagonist
Male lead a mere knight who only serves as a boy toy/gigolo for the FL
