Discussion This is RIDICULOUS
This series was finished YESTERDAY, I stopped halfway the last episode, and when I came back to it later today, it was already ad locked?! And every time I tried to click on the screen, it kept redirecting me to shoppee, I HATE THIS WITH A PASSION 🔥👄🔥 EVEN THE AFTERWORD IS AD LOCKED, THIS IS HORRIBLE

just keep an eye out for independent webcomic artists floating around the internet. some have their own websites and I have had the best time reading from them! its not one big collective, sure, but at least its not ruled by a money hungry pig

Keyword “indie”. Tapas just like Webtoon is mostly promoting their licensed Korean manhwa that you need coins/ink you need to buy to read but Tapas still has a selection of people independently posting their comics so there’s still an option to see and read them for free.

Imo, you should read the still free comics on Webtoon (since it supports the artists) but piracy is understandable once it stops being free

Mihon is pretty good, setup part is a bit tricky but there are detailed guides and after your first setup it's really easy to use. No adds too

Are they no longer announcing series locks now? I know there’s a super kind redditor who always posts updates of locking series, and I follow his posts religiously and yet there hasn’t been any announcement of intended lock for this one at all. What a bummer, I hate this direction for webtoon.

And after not being on this app for years and coming back to all these money hungry changes is so depressing 🥲 I remember being so happy to even see webtoons first commercial.. I was genuinely happy to see this app getting more attention all for it to go downhill like all the other apps sigh. That’s capitalism for you I guess ):

I am finding fewer and fewer comics I like there lately. I feel like most of the good ones they have/had I've already read or can find elsewhere. I used to like some of the ones on canvas a lot but so many if those just sort of faded away.

This. I can name at least 5 comics that I’m reading right now only because they’re on WEBTOON. I have dozens of series I’m subscribed to and I haves touched them in forever. The app sucks. Even the comment section is bs now on most series.

The fact that they didn’t even bother to leave any time because they knew people would be saving up chapters to binge.
I honestly feel bad for all the individual creators they’re shafting by pushing people to pirate.
I hope that every smart appliance and every service whoever was involved in this decision uses switches to being subscription based. And if it’s already subscription based, I hope it also adds 30s unskippable ads before they can do any task.

They have been paywalling the last episode of one I was reading for a while. Not even ads, just you pay or you don’t get it. Once I actually care enough I will definitely just be pirating.
Also saw a ridiculous one the other day where everything except the first episode is paywalled and I don’t even think it’s finished at least on webtoon. They are getting so freaking greedy.

But that’s why it’s important to go to your local library. Taking advantage of their services gives them more funding.
You can support the artist by requesting the book at your local library 📚 ✌️ I have read several WEBTOON series at mine.

Ouhh shi, that's too bad, ever tried checking your internet or uninstalling and reinstalling the app? That happens to be once before of the ads failing to load and i uninstalled and reinstalled and it started working fine again

Especially when you consider so many sc*ns choose to charge for the chapters and don’t even bother translating the onomatopoeias lmaoo not saying webtoon translation doesn’t have any issues but yeah.

Disclosing specific sites gets them taken down. Because people can't keep their mouths shut and blast ways to circumvent systems in place.

It’s really not. Unfortunately a lot of decent community run platforms will get taken down by receiving too much unwanted attention. These are conversations that have to be held in private and not putting these platforms on blast on public accessible forums.

I feel the exact same way!! I had this set back for months waiting for early access episodes to come free T^T
I literally was so happy to learn they were developing an epilogue and it just bums me out that it’s locked so quickly, literally they gaslit me into thinking maybe it was completely released a week ago without me realizing?? But it really just finished yesterday??? Bruhh T^T
I just saw it yesterday too and planned to read it soon since I was already reading something else and I was going to re-read the complete story since it’s been a long while only to see it’s ad locked today T^T
I wasn’t even worried because I remember WEBTOON used to give a notice up top of the story page to say when the series will become ad locked? When did they stop giving notices of this?? T^T
I’m literally so upset and mad at myself because I had the chance to read it but thought there would be time T^T
I will be reading this in other ways but I’m still upset >^>

I think this is part of why it was locked so quickly. It’s going to English print and it’s already got its Korean print. So as soon as it’s over there’s no more money to be made by Webtoon. It’s so upsetting for readers who didn’t get to finish.
It also looks like the cost of buying an entire series is more than I remember. It used to be 199 coins.

At least you have ad pass. I was just 8 episodes before the finale because it was going to be locked in three days. I was just going to finish it yesterday and it was blocked without ad passes 😭. I uninstalled that damn app with full rage.

Maybe it's cuz like versus watching ads and not needing ads at all 🤔, though if i really like a series, i wouldn't really mind watching ads (though not coins, im f2p type of person 😭) since it maybe supports the series too, but i think they're more complaining about how quick it was?

Not only that. My self started reading on webtoon a few months ago. Was fine at first. But then i started see series locked behind coin and ads. Series saying, free to read in 1 year etc. Love the comment section of webtoon. But man... its just not worth it.. Even my fav webtoon, the gamer. The whole series is coin locked cause its completed. And not even cheap to, pay about 40 euro to unlock it all, or just read on the big sea... what a choise...

Honestly, for a story as large as The Gamer, its not actually that expensive.
Getting it in print would be far more of a cost.
I mean, I personally wouldnt pay it, because of the writing and the ending, but, if another project went on for that long and was that cheap digitally... yeah forget waiting for all the physical volumes to finally drop at quadruple the price...

When i signed up for the subscription... I was pretty sure it bypassed the ads and let me read for free, up to a certain point. Now everything seems to be ad locked? Did it change while i was letting some series get ahead of me?

I miss the good old times where you could find entire series for free. No ads or paywalls. There are some really old webtoons that are still untouched that I keep re-reading fro tome to time, and I hope webtoon never realizes that they are still free.

That's the rights of use of Webtoon.
Like one series I follow at the begening when they finish the story, Webtoon put an add to reed fast until that story pass to be unlock

I thought there was a mandatory grace period before doing this to completed comics. Are you free only? Bc my last couple only locked up two days after the final episode released for free, not paid. I don’t mind paying and supporting the creators and all but at least give people a chance to finish what they are already reading for chrissakes.
