Discussion It’s over for Tapas

Welp. The announcement says no more ink for purchase but you can keep using it till you run out. And of course there was no warning. I didnt top up on ink so now any new chapters I won’t be able to read. My last 100 inks are just going to sit there I guess. Also no news on what will happen to already purchased chapters.

Wow, they really gave no warning for no longer being able to buy ink, it’s just effective immediately. Looks like I won’t get to finish my series after all. Love how they acknowledge that this is a surprise, and also that creators trusted them, while blatantly going out of their way to make this announcement as abrupt, shocking, and non-transparent as possible.

Edit: also ad pass is ended too.

I'm a creator on there and I've still not been contacted by them about them shutting down. I haven't checked my account in a bit (I'm currently in between series so I haven't checked it), so maybe there's something there but there has been no reach out via email or anything to us.

you’ll want to reach out, it sounds like Kakao only wants to deal with creator rights on an opt-in basis. it’s unclear to me whether this is a genuine attempt to take responsibility or if it’s a last ditch effort from good-hearted staff to hold Kakao accountable, so it’s worth making some noise on social media too. the US office has been totally hollowed out by Kakao’s constant layoffs, so as much as they’d like to help, their limited capacity is focused on the bigger (and the cynical side of me says more likely to sue) partners atm.
