Realistically the joke shouldn't be lack of flavour, but how brown everything is and that this abomination exists at all. I don't care that it's barely ever actually made, it shouldn't have been made at all

Is that fucking stargazy pie?? My dear sweet granny made it one (1) single time, and it turned me vegetarian.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big defender of British food (medieval food was genuinely lit, we don't make half the stuff nowadays that we used to back then), but I still have strong feelings about stargazy pie lmfao

There's a reason I singled it out, yup. Literally second picture from its Wikipedia page

Yeah. It’s colour we lack not flavour.

Of course it was Cornwall that made that. I don't know what they're doing in Cornwall but it's not what really anyone in Britain eats

They also make a type of Raisin cake made with lard and butter

It's not even eaten in cornwall that much. It's traditional in one tiny village to eat it one day a year and that's about it.

Yeah no one north of the river Tamar has ever even heard of a Cornish pastie.

Wait isn’t that where the Cornish pasties are made?

How did they manage to make a food that’s great

And decapitated fish head pie

Venom Snake type pie

It is all just various shades of brown come to think of it, a roast is just a plate of assorted browns with a bit of orange and green depending on you choice of vegetables

I'm more so talking about how almost everything is either turned into a pie, coated in brown sauces or both. Even Welsh rarebit is brown depending on beer selection.

Gotta add more fresh greens, paprika and tomato sauces to liven things up.

Yeah they really should have thought about that, if only there were a whole bunch of vegetables Brits used as a side dish...

what next, "Asians eat a lot of rice", "curries all look like slop", I don't see why people get up in arms about it at all, a pie is a perfectly good way to serve food, just like how rice works with a lot of stuff.

also just saying that almost everything is a pie or brown is just flat out ignorance.

My 3 most active contacts are 2 Welsh creatures and an English bloke, I am yet to see them post anything that isn't instant noodles or brown over the course of the decade

As to why? Because unlike claim of the food being flavourless/spiceless it actually holds water, isn't an insult and yet conveniently people still get their fannies in a twist about it.

Are you implying rarebit needs anything else? That shits fine as its basically grilled cheese on crack.

personally I like my browns, I don't want any other colours on my roast dinner

You need some greens, love some mint sauce

I'm going to be the contrarian here, and say that the pie is actually pretty nice. Having hard boiled eggs in a fish pie is definitely unorthodox, but otherwise, it's a pretty standard fish pie. The heads are cosmetic.

I mean there is plenty that isn't brown, but either way who the hell cares, if it tastes good it tastes good, what next "curries all look like wet slop" "rice dishes all have lots of rice"

I don't get the hate for stargazy pie either, yeah it looks a little funny but it's just some fish, people eat fish head on all the time, like I promise you if this was a Chinese dish no one when talking about Chinese food would be ranting and raving at it the same way people do about this pie or mushy peas.

Like every culture and region has bucket loads of 'strange' dishes but when other countries get brought up it's not just 24/7 talk about maggoty cheese, duck blood soup or eating bull balls.
