FOOTBALL Top 25 rankings

• Upvotes

The AP voters will be going nuts later today to come up with their top 25.

Where do you think Kentucky should be ranked?

What teams make up your top 5?

I think Kentucky has earned a top 10 ranking.

My top 5 are Miami, BYU, Ohio St, Ole Miss, UCLA

What say you?

GAME THREAD My take after one half of basketball

I LOVE watching Big Franck play! He is a tank! Ousman is also going to be my favorite for this year.

We looked scared coming out of the tunnel tonight so I’m not going all in on my takes. I feel like nerves are playing a big part in tonight’s performance so far. And we are shooting 25% from three because of it.

I saw some changes in the IB plays. We are not guarding the man inbounding the ball. We also have a new play to get the ball in that isn’t just stack em up and somebody pop out behind half court. So there is hope.

We still can’t fight through screens. Can’t we hire a coach for that?? Geez! It’s been years of the same issue…and it’s a big one. Speaking of ongoing issues-we aren’t defending the pick and roll any better than last year.

All that being said, it feels good to be back in Rupp for another season. Here’s to #9.

FOOTBALL Stein will not leave Kentucky

Now that Will Stein has shown early success at UK, inevitably the narrative he will jump at the first chance to leave for a big school has grown. I genuinely dont believe this narrative. In today’s day and age, the ability to take a program to the top is more doable and going to a Texas, Alabama, Michigan, etc isn’t necessary. Sure the allure is still there, but for how long?

2 examples nobody ever brings up: Cignetti at Indiana and Hurley coaching UConn hoops. Both of which had the exact same narrative surrounding them and both literally said they didn’t want to leave bc they want to build the program where they are. They turned down deals to leave, extended at their current program and have continued the success. Will they always stay put? Not sure, but the fact they chose to stay put for a bit longer says something.

I really don’t think people give enough credit to the fact Stein is from Kentucky and grew up a part of BBN. This kind of thing really does matter to people you know. When he is at the podium borderline in tears talking about the program and people of Kentucky, that matters. I genuinely don’t see him leaving this place anytime soon. Certainly not short of some serious success here.

FOOTBALL [No Paywall] Kentucky scored a monumental win. A father and daughter recaptured something more

Tony Fink scaled the 8-foot wall lining Kentucky’s football field, then reached up and grasped his 12-year-old daughter, Kaitlyn, to help her down. His two sons ran wild with the thousands of other crazed fans. His wife stayed in the stands.

It was Oct. 13, 2007, and Kentucky had just knocked off No. 1 LSU in triple overtime. Fink, then 48, was exhausted, and he settled on his back on the grass, a white-and-blue pompom in his right hand. He was dressed in blue from head to toe, down to his Kentucky blue lizard-skin shoes.

Kaitlyn sat beside him, keeping an eye on the football-fueled madness unfolding in Bluegrass country. He closed his eyes and smiled.

ā€œI thought, ā€˜Man, there can’t be anything better than this,ā€™ā€ Fink said.

Then he heard a rush of clicks. He opened his eyes. An Associated Press photographer hovered over him.

The image went as viral as an image could in 2007, the earliest days of social media. It became part of Kentucky football history. His kids blew it up and framed it. He can look at a wall in his home and remember one of the happiest days of his life.

He never imagined he would get to experience it again.

Until Kentucky stunned a ranked LSU team in overtime again on Saturday and presented an opportunity.

When March Madness comes around, Fink will tune in. He pays attention to Kentucky basketball, but the difference is clear.

POST GAME L Update from LSU fan after the game

Thank you Lexington, for the great experience. The town is amazing, very good people and had zero issues with anyone except for the blonde who screamed in my ear as she was running onto the field. My seats were great and I loved the Kroger field atmosphere. No, it’s not as good as Death Valley šŸ˜‰ but it was good nonetheless. I would highly recommend anyone, as an out of town fan to come to a game here and there is not a bad seat in the house. I appreciate the people here who commented on my other post, and y’all have a good football team. Minchey can play. Sucks Lane told Darby he wasn’t good enough, he clearly is.

Update: I am also planning on returning sometime this winter for a game at Rupp. Talked to a lot of people who highly recommended.

FOOTBALL The disrespect we get in football is crazy

The AP dropping us out after a win is obvious, but the train of ā€œLSU is a monster this year, of nvm ole miss is a monster, oh wait nvm Florida is a monster, oh wait I think Mizzou is a monsterā€ then we beat one of them and ā€œoh man they just ain’t who we thought they wereā€. Excuse tf outta me?! Look at the SEC standings son, we’re 5-1, dropped two top 10 teams and pulled one of the biggest comebacks of the year in one of the most intense settings in the nation. Right now it’s ā€œOklahoma is real again!ā€ If we come out with the win it’s going straight back to ā€œope, nope, wait a minute Oklahoma does just suckā€. The Stein era is just getting started.

FOOTBALL By the Numbers, Minchey's Heisman Campaign

Just so we're clear, I'm not saying Minchey should or shouldn't win the Heisman (lies, he should!), BUT...

through 6 games on the 5th hardest schedule in the country (ESPN FPI), here are Minchey's stats:

-120/178, 1394 yards, 11 TDs, 1 interception.

-Averages: 20/30, 232 yards, 1.8 TDs, 0.17 INT

Last year's Heisman winner (Fernando Mendoza), through 16 games averaged 17/24, 221 yards, 2.5 TDs, 0.4 INT on the 10th hardest schedule in the country (ESPN FPI again)

FOOTBALL Genuine question: What do you think was the playcall on the original 2 point conversation attempt with 8 o-lineman and 3 TEs?

Before the GW QB draw, Stein had 8 o-lineman and 3 TEs on the field. What do you think his plan was?

FOOTBALL Most fun as a fan in over a decade

always been ā€œbasketball-firstā€œ fan. I grew up in Kentuckiana, in a time where everyone’s teams sucked in football and were good in basketball. it’s also my favorite sport so I’m biased.

but this football season has been infinitely more fun than anything basketball has done in over a decade and it’s not even close.

in the last 5 years, CFB has continued to skyrocket in viewership. CBB has struggled beyond march madness.

with NIL, and conference realignment, anyone can be good in football, not just a fluke year. And now finally getting a taste of what it’s like to have a smart coach, good team, and big wins.

the end of the Cal-era sucked. And Pope has had a few good moments, but overall my fandom for MBB seems to be rapidly changing. things like ā€œBig Blue Madnessā€ used to be the biggest thing ever, and now I don’t watch because it’s just really boring to me, and although i watch every game, I’m just becoming more numb to [double digit loss column - not winning SEC - mediocre post season - repeat]. paying $$ to go to a shitty cupcake game in Rupp ain’t appealing like 10 years ago. And To top it all off, none of it matters until march anyway, for fans and national attention. My wife was a convert-fan, but stopped watching for those very reasons. Maybe I’m just super pessimistic about our future and how CBB is going to matter a lot less while CFB matters so much more nationally. I deep down don’t believe Kentucky BB will ever get back to ā€œthe glory daysā€, whether our own doing or due to NIL.

but this football season is electric And why I watch sports.

every game is a SEC opponent with talent and a big fan base. ā€œbad footballā€ is more exciting than ā€œbad basketballā€ As it leads to electric plays and is part of the game.

The game environments home and away are insane and so much fun. And now we have a competitive team and smart coach. only 12-games so I’m not numb to ā€œgreat a Tuesday 9pm game against Grambling state… what a doozyā€

And everyone watches it. it’s not just our bubble after a big win. all of CFB is talking about it. now living in the South, it’s just so much more fun.

i still watch every CBB and CFB game, but this season was the juice i needed to pay off for continuing to watch every game from September to March
