Tough Procedure

Hi all, new here & wanted to share my story and see if anyone had similar. 36/F

I got my upper right wisdom tooth pulled yesterday With help of nitrous. It had not erupted at all and was in my sinus cavity. The procedure took two attempts and resulted in more of a manual removal I’m told. My OS said they had to remove quite a lot of bone to get it out and that my face would likely bruise and swelll up to my eye. This was physically a very tough thing to go through.

I am on a soft food diet/sipping water and resting. I just started a Z pack today as well. Has anyone ever gone through this? I’ve had all the others removed but never this severe of procedure And not sure what to think about the bone aspect. What is my recovery going to be like honestly? This is the most pain I’ve ever been in my whole life. My eye/ears/jaw, everything is so sore.

i am using arnica gel for swelling/bruising. As well as hydrocodone/tylenol and I have a muscle relaxer for my TMD. 😔

Hey! I’ve never been through this, however, most places have a 24/7 on-call surgeon/doctor for questions/concerns free of charge. I’d recommend doing that, I know you probably want to avoid doing that as I would too but I feel like ur bones is nothing to hope and pray on Reddit users giving the best advice.

I appreciate your response. I’ve been in contact with the surgeon- I’m doing everything she’s recommended and she knows my status. I was just looking for more personal experience.

That’s good, I was just thinking they could give you more insight on what to expect as most go through the recovery process with others. When I had my check up they asked me EVERY part of recovery, including the good the bad and the ugly. If no one responds on here you can always ask them what other patents had similar surgery and what their recovery was like. My clinic told me other patents stories without me even asking 😂

Agreed with this. Calling the on call line is the safest move, they would much rather hear from you than have you worry alone. Hope you feel better soon!

You poor thing. The next few days may be a bit rough but it sounds like you are prepared with meds and soft foods. Take it easy, rest and let your body heal and try not to get discouraged if it takes a little longer than you’re used to. Hang in there! If you get tired of eating the same soft foods in a few days let me know, I have a few faves that got me through.

Plain yogurt with pear or plum baby food mixed in (or applesauce)
Butter flavor Idahoan mashed potatoes from the packet (add a little extra water to make them creamy). Stir in butter/cheese/sour cream
Hot cereal served room temp (cream of wheat, cream of rice, or oat bran)
Butternut squash or sweet potato pureed soup (homemade or from a can)
Very soft scrambled eggs (cook over low-medium heat and don’t overcook)
Vanilla ice cream, jello pudding, flan
At about day 3 I mashed hard boiled egg into a puree with half an avocado and added mayo or sour cream and salt, ate with a spoon. It’s actually delicious!
