Hey all. I know we've had a few posts already that outlined handy rules for roleplay etiquette. Here are some:
https://www.reddit.com/r/wizardposting/s/hDv5wbuOF7
https://www.reddit.com/r/wizardposting/s/7RX9Zwmp8H
https://www.reddit.com/r/wizardposting/s/MuYKwuy2Ef
...
But it has come to my attention that we might want a guide specifically focusing on the more villainous side of wizardposting. This is partially because matters concerning ethics have a way of getting more heated and partially because playing a villain (or even a morally questionable character) can present unique challenges. Conflict is the driving force behind story, after all, and we want to make sure we do it in a way that's fun for all parties.
This post is targeted at the subreddit villains primarily, but I think anyone engaging in roleplay could benefit.
Anyway, here we go:
1. None of this is personal.
This probably seems obvious, but I'd like to stress it because the kinds of in-character clashes that a straight-up villain gets into can sometimes create high tensions. Remember that the person on the other side of the screen is almost certainly not seriously evil. And they almost certainly do not think that you are either. We might write about doing evil things. We might roleplay evil things. But none of this means anything in regard to the real-life ethics of the flesh and blood person you are interacting with.
2. If it does become personal, be careful.
Ideally, we would be rational actors all the time, but unfortunately we are all mere humans (probably). Even when you know perfectly well that none of this is personal, it can still be hard to fully keep your emotions separate. This is understandable. We all get attached to our wizard characters, we all take moral stances, and we all get invested in plotlines. I mean, hey, if we aren't personally invested in our wizard roleplay, why are we even here?
When this happens, just be sure to proceed with caution. Try not to let out-of-character feelings influence what you do in-character. And, of course, it's basically never a bad idea to be open with people about it.
3. Get permission.
Another one that's been thoroughly covered before. But I bring it up because, as a villain, whatever evil thing you're doing is probably quite a bit more distressing than your run of the mill wizard shenanigans. Perhaps unsurprisingly, stepping on another roleplayer's toes is a bit more severe when you do it by burning their tower and kidnapping their apprentice. And if it's something particularly bad that you're planning, you should make sure to be very clear about your intentions and the potential consequences so the other person isn't taken by surprise.
4. It will probably feel a little unfair sometimes.
I will make no bones about it. Playing a villain will make people hostile to you. Do not take it personally.(see rule 1) But I will not deny that it can feel overwhelming sometimes to attract a lot of hate, even if it is all in-character. Further, as a villain, you will probably need to be more gracious about losing fights. While it's true that every character has to accept losses sometimes, playing a heel means you can generally expect to 'hit the mat' more often and more definitively.
It's not all bad though. Villains are empowered to behave badly in creative ways. And sometimes even losing can be fun.
5. Consider content warnings.
This is not a hard rule, but if you are writing something particularly upsetting, it might be wise to provide a content warning. This is not a condemnation of the presence of dark or serious content. It's just nice to give people the opportunity to decide if they want to deal with it.
6. Morally ambiguous characters.
Not all characters fit neatly into the villain/hero dichotomy. Much of the advice here will apply to anyone who's character steps outside the category of 'good guy'. But it's still important to remember that explicitly and intentionally playing a villain is very different than playing a morally ambiguous character (even if you personally do not find their actions ambiguous). Condemning actions in-character is absolutely fine, but it's still up to the person writing the character to define that characters morality. I understand that this gets messy in a community with a lot of differing views, so if it becomes clear that you are at an impasse, it might be best to back off.
That said, for any morally ambiguous characters, if you do something bad, you should expect people to react realistically in-character. You can't really be shocked that other characters don't like your cool new murder spell.
7. Note for heroes and other non-villains.
Lastly, I just want to address the protagonist types. Cut villains a little slack sometimes. Setting aside that it's more fun for us if we occasionally get a win, it also generally makes a better story.
And keep in mind that the person saying and doing horrible things in-character is there to have fun too. This is a cooperative activity, after all.
...
With all that said, I'm off to do some evil scheming. Have fun. Be good to each other.

Welcome to r/wizardposting! Assuming you just wandered in and have no idea what the hell you're looking at, this is a place people pretend to be are wizards and other magical things. That can range anywhere from just posting a meme while ranting about the Council and casting testicular torsion, to our more niche subcommunity of full-blown roleplay, creative writing, and interactive fiction.
When commenting:
/uw means unwiz
/rw means rewiz
We have an official DISCORD if you're into that kind of thing.
Other than that? Have fun, drink water, and remember to step away from the orb every once in a while. Be sure to review the rules in the sidebar before posting, and have fun.
Thanks for stopping by!

I cast eye of the Dragonfly to gain near 360 degree vision and predictive interception shooting skills (PISS), to shoot not where you are but where you’re going to be.

It's that time of year again. The grand harvest has come and gone, and the druids have returned to reinvigorate the fields for the next crop sowing.
Please be kind and let your local circle carry out their rituals without arcane interference if possible.

Just now, at the Council Citadel, an airship appeared out of the portal and struck the Citadel's central spire, which is currently collapsing. Sources state this is a passenger airship dubbed the “Nautilon”, but why it's doing this is unknown.
…This just in, the airship was piloted by old councillor Koranth, returning from the plane of endless parties seemingly to enact revenge upon the Council for her replacement. The spire has collapsed with significant casualties ensuing. Teams are currently on the scene to capture her and her crew.

The winds howled across the plains of the chaotic wasteland with a ferocity that would tear appart anyone unprotected by magic or the gifts of the dark gods, Chicken strode forward carrying his warhammer from the old days, his fur cape struggling furiously against the bitting winds, the snow compressing beneath his heavy black boots, behind him a small host of trusted warriors and aspiring champions followed.
With each step north, the cold seemed to grow frail, in the distance there could be seen a pack of warm red lights, deep down Chicken was unsure whether he was on the right track, closing the distance between the dark host and their target took longer than expected, the minutes turned to hours then at last the site was within 100 yards.
The encampment of the marauders and demons of the blood god was messy to say the least, displays of things too gruesome to describe were plenty, the presence of Chicken and his host alerted them, demons came forth rushing towards the host stopping only a few meters away, warriors of Khorne picked up their weapons ready for battle but from within the greatest tent of the emcampment came forth Ka'Bandha one of the blood god's greatest bloodthirsters.
Ka'Bandha raised his great axe and spoke in a voice that would shake untested men to their core
"Who among you had such a death wish to even consider coming knocking?"
Chicken raised his warhammer with his right hand in his left he began to conjure magical lightning
"I did, I shall fell you and come one step closer to ascend as the new Everchosen, surrender now or face me."
Ka'Bandha laughed not taking the threat seriously but the lack of fighting in the last hours had him craving it thus he sprung forward attempting a sideways slash at Chicken who dodged it
Chicken counter attacked with magical lightning to the greater demon's face, only making it angrier, causing the demon to swing it's axe wildly in rage, chicken avoided most of the swings but the last connected with his armor, although the wards protected him he was sent flying a dozen meters back, his men were stunned in silence until Ka'Bandha's minnions smelling blood in the figurative water began launching themselfs at them, a vicious scamble ensued between both sides.
As the bloodthirster approached, Chicken got onto his feet and used a quickspell to teleport right into the demon's back, for a split Chicken stabbed Ka'Bandha between the ribs with a cursed dagger causing the greater demon much pain, before the demon could get his hands on Chicken he used another teleport quickspell to appear two doen yards away.
The bloodthirster's pride was definitively hurt and it raised it's great axe once more swinging it down which Chicken dodged, Ka'Bandha continued swinging his weapon ferociously while Chicken kept his distance until he baited the demon into stricking a nearby pile of skulls causing hundreds of skulls to split into shards to Ka'Bandha's inconvenience.
Chicken used a spell to summon a smoke cloud, amidst the smoke a fireball stroke the demon's face, then another followed by a few more, before the demon could properly react to the change of tactics Chicken quickly closed the distance and jumped swinging his warhammer into the demon's face with a sickening crunch.
As the smoke cleared the bloodthirster was face first into the ground, before the demon could rise again Chicken conjured magical chains to bind it.
From within his pouch he revealed a hidden scroll containing a spell to trasform a demon into a weapon, upon consuming the scroll the demon roared in anger as it's form and turned with sickening cracking sounds as it twisted into that of a demonic sword.
Chicken picked up the demonic weapon, it's desperate words of rage and insults echoing through his head to no avail and raised it at the sky in triumph.
Among Chicken's followers many had perished during the melee, the few that remained looked onward in expectation at their lord as did all of the remaining minnions of Ka'Bandha both mortal and neverborn seeing their master defeated who one by one knelt before the Lord of Chaos.
/uw This is one of the trials and quest that my character will embark on before ascending as the Everchosen in a form of build up for the coming storm

Hello brothers, today I went to a party organizated by a biomancer spider, there were very interesting things at the party, like a evil talking horse, A #$%$#$% TALKING HORSE.
If you don't remember, I was in a journey to the citrus citadel because I wanted to turn some lemons back to humans, but in the way I lost the lemons and the guys who were with me, however, that doesn't matter, there was an atraction that was the same conscious lemons that I lost, so I did the most responsible action I could take: steal the lemons.
I hide in the building next door, there was cult to u/Imurderbeets that gave me a seashell (They say that it had an answer for everything), so I asked: How can I found my friends? The object told me to give a cold lemonade to a demon that will help me find them.
How can I find a demon?
(Unwiz: this is a continuation of Trying to turn lemons back to humans 6, and I changed the name because I think the new is better)

I have left the dungeons thank to the help of multiple people here, and also the staff I order is finally done how's we feeling about it? It's an elemental type staff with a dull orb so I won't shine unless I used magic.
