For eight months, she was the only cat left on that shelf. Every time someone walked into the shelter, they breezed right past her. She was a senior, and her file was thick with red flags, maltreated by previous owner, severe anxiety, requires extreme patience.

They looked at her and saw a broken animal with too much baggage and not enough time left. I won't lie and say it was love at first sight. When i brought her, she spent the first three weeks hiding in the darkest corner of my closet, only coming out at night to eat. If i moved too fast, she would flinch and press herself into the floor. The trauma of her past was a physical weight in my house. There were days i cried because i felt like i was failing her, like maybe the damage was too deep and she would never feel safe.

But i stopped trying to force her to be a normal cat. I just existed in the same room as her. I sat on the floor and read out loud so she could get used to my voice. I let her come to me on her own terms.

It happened slowly. First, it was just her sitting a few feet away. Then, it was a hesitant sniff of my hand. Then, one night, she jumped onto the bed and curled up against my legs.

Now she the most loyal, gentle soul i have ever known. She follows me from room to room. She doesn't need toys, she just needs to know where i am. She trust me completely, and that trust feels like the greatest. Price in the world.

Everyone wants the easy cats, but they miss out on the profound beauty of earning the trust of broken one. She was not damaged goods. She was just waiting for someone to show her that the world wasn't entirely cruel. I am so glad i didn't leave her on that shelf

First time girl-moding! Went out for breakfast with my wife. Was nervous but euphoric!

Last night we had family over to help prepare things for our wedding next Saturday. Someone opened a window that doesnt have a screen and no one noticed. We all went to bed and I said goodnight to Puffy at 10pm.

We didn’t see Puffy all morning and at 11am when I still could not find him I started to get worried. We had me, my fiance, his parents, my aunt and cousin all searching. I finally saw that the window was open and I lost it. I called the police, animal shelters and rescues. We were going all over the neighborhood with posters and posting on lost pet groups.

I had to leave to go pick up my wedding dress while my fiance stayed behind to keep looking 😞. We were 5 minutes from getting my dress when I got the call that a woman found him 😭he followed her daughter home and stayed by her but was too afraid to go inside or let anyone near him. My fiance went to pick him up right away and he is home sleeping now 😭😭😭

It was the scariest day of my life. I’m so thankful to the woman and her daughter!! I’m going to bring them flowers and a gift card tomorrow. He was a mile away and crossed a busy road by himself 😭.
