Review Digger is good

I joined to make this post (and because I love movies)

I went to watch Digger yesterday and it was good, it deserves to be seen and I think a lot of people could get something from it.

The trailers I watched made it look like a goofy movie about a quirky character and filled with dumb jokes but it has a lot more to offer than that. It's not quirky and dumb, that's just an appearance that has a place and explanation inside the movie universe.

The movie has substance but it's not preachy. It can be understood in a lot of ways depending on your views.

I don't feel it's about or against climate change, corporations, politics and all of that.

It certainly contains those elements and makes a parody of them, showing their dark side but it's not just a social critique.

I feel the movie is about people and our role in the shape of humanity and the World, about society and why it works the way it does. About our present and our likely future.

Give it a chance and go watch it. Not everybody will like it but it has something to say to most people.

Discussion Plot hole : ‘Heat’ (Michael Mann)?

I’m not alone in loving this film but there’s a significant part of the storyline which bugs me. Neil Macaulay is a professional thief and very meticulous and cautious about planning and executing jobs. He aborts one heist when he hears a clunk that might indicate Police presence. He buys books on the tensile strength of metals to aid him in blowing up bank trucks and safes. So how does he end up hiring a loser like Waingro and using him on a job as a first timer, none of his crew had met or worked with him before, he executes a guard without cause putting them at risk of worse prison time and <checks notes> he is a serial killer. If a crew member dropped out last minute wouldn’t the cautious MCaulay have passed on the job or that time around? Make it make sense to me.

New Release I love this Street Fighter movie - starring Callina Liang

I dont give two shits if this movie doesnt age well, this is exactly how you should make a street fighter movie.

When you think about it, this is a pretty hard game to adapt. And the way they did it, they embraced the absurdity of the game, which was just perfect. This movie feels like an 80s movie released in 2026.

Now I know what you're thinking, Callina Liang is not the star of this movie, and Im here to tell you you're wrong. I forgot all about this hadouken stuff when she came on screen.

Only 2 things I didnt like, one I didnt need this much fucking animation, the first one was all that was needed. And two, maybe just a little more fighting than story.

Well thats it. I dont feel like I gave much in terms of spoilers, but its out so you should take your ass to the theater and enjoy a good time.

Discussion The Narnia Trailer Looks Bad, And...

I'm writing this after watching the recent trailer for Netflix's Narnia, and my gut feeling is telling me it's going to be a bad film.

Why? It's not the reasons you think it would be. I personally do not think fantasy book adaptations need to be 100% accurate to be enjoyable. But this looks so misguided. For the most part, I think the casting is great. Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew checks out. Same for Emma Mackery as Jadis. The child actors playing Digory and Polly are great. The 1950s London Set does not look bad. When I read the articles about the conceptual inspirations, it did not seem bad. I thought it was going to invoke the vibes of the 80s dark fantasy movies (ie. Labyrinth, Return to Oz). I was wrong.

After I saw the trailer, my hopes for this movie being any good went out the window. It seemed like it was a mishmash of elements that didn't go together. The characterizations of Polly and Diggory seemed fine. They are probably the most book-accurate aspect of the trailer. The lighting looks off which is uncharacteristic of a Gerwig film. And it seems like the mere references of British rock are doing the heavy lifting in making the project seem "edgy." Like, Stairway to Heaven plays in the background, but that song would have worked with scenes of actual scary imagery?

Look, Gerwig can make a bad film and still survive, but seriously, who is this movie for? Obviously not the Narnia fans because it is quite offbeat with the source material. It's not for children, because Gen Alpha didn't ask for this. Definitely not general audiences because this is not generally what audiences expect of fantasy films.

I will wait till it is released on Netflix, and if a pretty mainstream reviewer says it's bad, then my time is saved. This overall seems like a Snow White remake situation in which the movie is marketed to bait outrage but is in actuality just...bad.

Question Name 10 great movies that you can watch right now if you have netflix.

What are 10 great movies that I could watch that are on there right this moment?

Edit: 10 that aren't connected to each other, and aren't kids movies. Just noticed that the Ice Age movies are on their 10 most watched movies right now, don't care about Ice Age.

Question What was the meaning of Roger’s ‘snail’ joke in Training Day (2001)?

Roger: “Here's a joke, boy. One day this man walks out of his house to go to work. He sees this snail on his porch. So he picks it up and chucks it over his roof, into the back yard. Snail bounces off a rock, cracks its shell all to shit, and lands in the grass. Snail lies there dying. But it doesn't die. It eats some grass. Slowly heals. Grows a new shell. And after a while it can crawl again. One day the snail up and heads back to the front of the house. Finally, after a year, the little guy crawls back on the porch. Right then, the man walks out to go to work and sees this snail again. So he looks at it and says, 'WHAT THE FUCK’S YOUR PROBLEM?’”

Jake Hoyt: *Laughs* “That’s not funny, that’s not funny.”

Alonzo: “Then whatchu laughing for if it ain’t funny?”

Roger: “You figure that joke out, you’ll figure the streets out.”

Discussion Blue Jasmine (2013)

Post image

One of my favourite films is Blue Jasmine and I’m doing a rewatch. I have to say Sally Hawkins and Bobby Cannavale do a phenomenal job playing their characters. Their supporting roles really paint the environment of everyday people being terrorized by a woman shattered by her pride and mental illness deteriorating everything around her. A brilliant film if it’s not too triggering for people.

Question does anyone have any film recommendations for when you’re feeling really lonely and a bit hopeless?

Hey,
I’ve been feeling pretty down lately. I recently moved away for college and don’t have contact with either of my parents, so I’ve been feeling quite alone.
I watched Practical Magic the other night and found it surprisingly comforting. I loved the cosy atmosphere, the house, the little bit of magic and just how warm everything felt. I’m looking for something with a similar vibe, if that makes sense.
Preferably something from the ‘80s, ‘90s or 2000s, not too romance-focused, and not coming-of-age. It doesn’t have to be witchy or anything, I just want something cosy and hopeful that makes you feel a little better about life. Nothing too sad or bittersweet, please I’ve had enough of that lately lol 😂
I’d really appreciate any recommendations. Thank you !! ❤️

Discussion Does anyone know why this happens? I’m dying to see The Batman Part II, so I can’t even imagine how The Godfather fans felt having to wait 15 years for its epilogue.

And Sicario 3 will come out exactly 10 years after the last one. I was in 5th grade when Into the Spider-Verse came out, then in my first year of high school when the sequel came out, and I’ll be in my second year of college when Beyond the Spider-Verse comes out. The Batman started when I was 16, in my first year of high school, and now I’ll be 21 when its sequel comes out. Like, holy shit, they set the bar so high, only to leave you waiting until you’ve grown a damn beard.

Fan Content My Tracked Unlimited Cinema Membership Stats

This isn't promotional in any way, it's a web app I've created purely for myself, which will be obvious that it's vibe coded, but I love data and I wanted to track the value I get out of my unlimited cinema membership, but also to let me keep track of my own favourite movies, with tier lists and a graph explorer.

I'm up to 55 movies so far in 2026, with a lot more to come by the end of the year

I'm assuming this will be allowed, it might be something people find interesting

cinemetric-app-production.up.railway.app/

Might inspire other people to potentially do similar themselves

Discussion What is an 80’s movie you loved but was heavily panned by critics? I loved Arthur 2, even tho it’s not as near as good as the first one but I really found it worthy and definitely a good watch. Seeing the majority of the cast back together was a plus…
