I paid someone to hardwire-install dash cams in my car. I provided the cameras, and he was responsible for the installation.
As soon as I arrived, he told me to get out of my car, and he parked it in his driveway himself. I thought that was a little strange since I could have easily parked it myself.
He started working on the installation, and I watched the whole process. Everything seemed to be done correctly, as far as I could tell. The only issue was that he couldn't put the fuse box cover back on because the wires were in the way and wouldn't allow it to close. I ended up keeping the cover in my glovebox so I would still have it and know which fuses were for what.
After he finished, he wanted to take my car for a test drive to see if the wires would stay in place under different driving conditions. He explained that he wanted to accelerate or drive over bumps to simulate rough driving conditions.
I told him I wasn't comfortable with him driving my car and suggested that I could drive while he sat in the passenger seat. He insisted that he needed to be the one driving, so I repeated that I wasn't comfortable with that and offered the same alternative.
At that point, he simply said his job was done, and that was it. He didn't do the test drive.
I'm not necessarily questioning the quality of his work, but the whole interaction felt a little strange to me, especially him insisting on driving my car and then dropping the test entirely when I said no.
Is this normal for a dash cam installation, or was I right to find the situation a bit odd?
