Discussion π¬ Patriarchy
I saw a comment under my post about whataboutism that made me think about how deeply patriarchy is embedded in our society.
My post has nothing to do with hating men. Whataboutism can be used by both men and women. There is no gender role for using this.
The commenter basically mocked women for discussing sexism, saying that these supposedly βintelligentβ Myanmar women will eventually marry men they criticize, give birth to their children, and become housewives anyway. They also mocked women for using βfancy foreign wordsβ online.
Why is a woman's opinion about sexism suddenly less valid just because she might eventually get married or have children? And even if a woman chooses to become a housewife, that doesn't mean she deserves less respect or should have fewer rights.
I think this reflects how deeply traditional gender roles are ingrained in our society. Women are expected to become wives and mothers, while speaking against the system that reinforces these expectations gets treated as a joke.
But patriarchy doesn't benefit men as much as some people think, either.
Men are also expected to be providers, to suppress their emotions, to always appear strong, and to prove their masculinity. Men who don't fit these expectations can be mocked for being weak, feminine, or not being βreal men.β They're often discouraged from expressing vulnerability or seeking emotional support because society teaches them that these things make them less masculine.
Of course, men and women don't necessarily experience these expectations in the same way, and women have historically faced significant disadvantages under patriarchal systems. But acknowledging that patriarchy harms men doesn't take away from the problems women face. Both can be true at the same time.
And that's why I think we should be questioning these expectations instead of defending them simply because they're traditional.
Feminism isn't about making women superior to men. It's about challenging a system that assigns people roles, expectations, and limitations based on their gender.
Women should be able to speak about sexism without being ridiculed, and men should be able to live without having their masculinity constantly questioned.
Neither women nor men should have to spend their lives proving that they're good enough according to society's expectations of their gender.

Discussion π¬ I saw this interview of Van Bawi Thawng, who plays for Chinland FC in Myanmar League. He was born and raised in Chin State and now lives in Yangon, but can't speak Burmese so he gave this interview in English. Is it common for people in Chin State to be fluent in Chin and English but not Burmese?

Discussion π¬ Tokyo playing a long game?
Beijing and New Delhi are understandably frustrated about Washingtonβs secret meeting with the junta. But honestly, the real story isnβt even about the U.S.
Itβs Tokyo.
This isnβt a coincidence. Japan has been quietly working on diplomacy in Myanmar for years through things like ODA and people like Sasakawa. While Western companies pulled out after the coup, 300 Japanese businesses stuck around.
China might have the muscle on the ground, but theyβre dealing with a big trust issue in Myanmar. Japan has something that China canβt just buy β soft power and trust in the region.
The U.S. and Japan are clearly using Tokyo as a neutral ground to push back against China.
But the real test isnβt about cornering the junta. Itβs whether Tokyo can convince Beijing that having a stable and neutral Myanmar actually benefits them too.
What's your take?

Advice Political changes and university
Hey it's me again. I asked about G-12 stuffs a few months prior but now 7 months into the journey, political changes have me rethinking about what to do. As you guys know, High school students and university students were exception to the α α αΊααΎα―αααΊαΈ but now only highschool students are exception to the α α αΊααΎα―αααΊαΈ β(not to αα±α«αΊαα¬). uni students on the other hand are no longer an exception to α α αΊααΎα―αααΊαΈ. They said students have to serve the country for 2 years then come back to uni after that. Well idk if they actually announced it officially. My previous plan was to finish G-12 with good marks, try to be qualified for MMU and get a degree in something which I can use to work on ships as engineer or other stuffs (αααΊαΉαα±α¬ ααΎα¬α ααΊαα‘ααΊαα»ααΊααα―ααΊαΈααΌα αΊααΌα αΊαα±α«α·αα½α¬). Plan B was something IT related. But now things are changing so I have to rethink about all. Is it actually the time to consider studying abroad and working there? If studying abroad is possible, what should I do? Which foreign universities are easy to apply for? Can you apply for foreign universities with G-12 Completion certificate and α‘ααΎααΊα α¬αααΊαΈ ? I'm quite interested in studying physics and mathematics related subjects. I think I'd be okay with engineering subjects.
I have around 4 months till the ACTUAL G-12 FINAL. And 9-10 months till α‘α±α¬ααΊα α¬αααΊαΈ. I'm not sure what to do but for now I'll try to get good marks in G-12 final. Then based on you guys' suggestion and idea I'll rethink about what to do. Also what's the minimum cost or average cost of attending a university in a foreign nation (β everything included from taking classes before going to uni fees)
Sorry for my English. And I will be offline for a few days as I have an exam ongoing. I'll make sure to read all comments thoroughly when I'm online again. Some of the questions I've asked above might be some dumb question but please don't mind ππ».
Take Care!

Advice What are some nice cultural experiences you could get from studying Burmese?
Like poetry, music, literature, conversations, movies, etc. I am a language learner and Burmese interests me so I was curious what would be some great ways to make use of the language in terms of experiencing the culture in a way you only can if you know the language.
