The look on the dogs face makes me think the human had stolen his chair and he was just taking it back

I agree, the small chair with "Scout" written on it indicates it was doggo's chair

Especial at now with AI, should be suspicious at any, but especial at any that appeal at sex.

It’s the Pottery Barn kids chair with removable cover. I wonder if when their kids were grown and too big for the chair, they turned it into a dog bed and embroidered the dogs name.

u/Happy-Estimate-7855 13h ago
My dog and I actually do this to each other. He'll take my seat, and his whole body wiggles with excitement when I notice. Then he jumps to his side of the couch. Sometimes I'll sit in his seat, and he'll "lure" me away with his toys before jumping into his spot.
45
u/macarenamobster 12h ago
My cat does this if I get up from bed to go to the bathroom. Come back two minutes later and he’s snugged up against my pillow in my spot.
I make an elaborate show of slowly laying down pretending I’m going to crush him until he moves over a begrudging 6 inches.
18
u/mmh_fava_beans 11h ago
Also, can we talk about how the cat comes over to lie down on your lap or your chest, just when you recognize you have to go to the bathroom?
4
5
u/civilwar142pa 10h ago
I had to teach my dog 'scoot' because he'd always take my spot. So when I got back he'd have to scoot over a little. And it was very little, but I'd be able to fit.
3
u/Express_Grocery4268 9h ago
My dogs would do this to each other. If they'd be eating a treat or a bone or so and the other finishes first but wanted the bone from the other, she jump up and run to the front door barking to lure the other dog away. And then quickly run back to get the bone. They are really really smart.
1
u/Digidigdig 9h ago
Whilst also being really really stupid. Ours is super smart but then something just clicks in him and he channels his inner scooby doo. “Ruh-roh, I’m a dog. Ooo squirrel 😀”
2
u/Digidigdig 9h ago
Same man, same 🥹 ours is off the sofa giving bum wiggles and leans as soon as you un- recline the sofa as it usually means feed or walk

My parents have a couch and their favorite dogs sits between them on the coach. Sometimes I'll come over to help them with their phones or using a website. Old people stuff and I'll sit in the middle of the couch. The whole time their dog sits in front of me and stares. He'll bump my leg with his nose. He'll put his chin on the edge of the couch and give huge puppy dog eyes. And if I keep ignoring him he'll grunt at me and grumble. And if I keep ignoring him he will just jump on me and sit in my lap.
Little bro wants his favorite spot. He will do anything for it.
12
u/mhkg 9h ago
Was visiting my brother and I sit on the couch on the other side of where his dog is sitting. About 30 minutes go by and he comes over to me and start whimpering, panting, and seems in distress. I tried to calm him down, but couldn't figure out what was wrong. I get up to get a toy to maybe give him something to soothe him. Turns out he was just upset I was sitting where he wanted to sit. I come back and he's sitting in my spot cool as a cucumber.
3
u/senor_skuzzbukkit 4h ago
My old pit used to pull the same move. Always made me laugh when having to explain to people that he was fine, he just had a very particular spot he wanted to sit in, and zero social graces.

Having cameras film my family inside my house 24/7 is a dystopian trend I refuse to let myself understand
166
u/BucinVols 12h ago
I can see having one to check in on pets when you’re not there but yeah having it be “always on”, definitely not.
30
u/Flapjack__Palmdale 12h ago
We have one that's only on at night and when we arm our alarm. This would make me uncomfortable
28
u/OpenRoad_LetsDrive 12h ago
That’s what you think.
What is stopping someone from hacking and turning it on whenever?25
u/Solid_Medium_5454 11h ago
The same thing that’s stopping someone from hacking your phone camera and turning it on whenever…
19
u/Flapjack__Palmdale 11h ago
Because it's on a closed-circuit on a physical on-prem server? it's locked down tight.
19
u/RavingGerbil 11h ago
No, I, a random redditor, know both your configuration and security best practices better than you. There is no way I feel safe with cameras in your home. I’ll be laying awake tonight thinking “wow I hope they aren’t spying on that guy.”
Ffs there are ways to do this safely. Nothing is black and white including “camera inside bad.” If it’s not networked how tf is it going to get hacked.
2
u/Jriizzyy 5h ago
Ignorant family of mine say this kind of thing all the time. Simply because it has some kind of circuitry, like my smart lock, it must be a safety risk they could not fathom taking.
0
u/OpenRoad_LetsDrive 8h ago
Is that server on a home network that also has internet? Or is it totally airgapped?
3
u/InebriatedPhysicist 5h ago
So you’ve moved on from likely scenarios to relying on fringe, technically possible, scenarios to make your argument?
2
u/OpenRoad_LetsDrive 4h ago
There has been published instances of home routers being compromised. If a video server was on the local network, it would be accessible.
I don’t think it hurts to challenge security assumptions. If it can lead to a safety improvement for someone.

u/h3lium-balloon 12h ago edited 12h ago
I'm in and out of people's homes all day for my job. Based on what I'm seeing it's becoming extremely common, I'd say a good 30% of homes have some kind of interior camera. Seems to be very common in rooms that have an exterior door instead of exterior security cameras. Seems especially common in rentals, since most people don't want to, or aren't allow to, install exterior cameras in a rental. A lot of them seem to be there for pets, but almost all of them are always-on, online cameras, probably because they're so cheap and easy to setup now.
3
u/zebrasareneat 8h ago
I have it in my rental for when the property manager has some reason to enter or there is maintenance on something being done. My shit is in there and working for the property doesn’t mean you don’t have sticky hands.
4
u/itookdhorsetofrance 11h ago
do you require to be told you're being recorded?
2
u/Key-Demand-2569 8h ago
It depends on where they live but in most places I’m aware of it’s not a legal requirement, just a courtesy.
That changes if the cameras aren’t obvious or you’re a tenant and not contracted labor/visiting.
12
u/my_twin_towne 10h ago
People overthink this without considering all the facts. Commonly, cameras have motion sensors or pet detection settings. Either of them flipped on means this would be recorded for viewing later. They’re moving. Dog is present. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
2
u/Gold-Part4688 7h ago
... so they only film when things are moving? wow so much more private 🤦♀️
1
u/MilkiestMaestro 7h ago
It's private until they decide to post it online. They have the option
0
u/Gold-Part4688 7h ago
i mean some, ok, but many are online especially if they're for checking on pets. those will be both hackable and almost always visible to anyone at the company
and even if not, as others have said if they ever get subpoena'd everyone's looking at all that
3
u/MilkiestMaestro 7h ago
I would just not buy one if you are worried about being subpoenaed or hacked
0
u/Gold-Part4688 7h ago
assuming that the powers at be have your interest at heart, and that you'll never do anything illegal, depends on who's in charge and what they decide is illegal.
powers and the company in the middle lol. software is also crazy unsafe nowadays, things get mass hacked very very often. essentially every computer has a botfarm
3
u/MilkiestMaestro 7h ago
Someone posted a funny situation in the optimism sub and you have decided to use that moment for aphorisms about dystopian society
Respectfully, the grass around you yearns to be touched

From a friend that worked at a law firm. If your ever involved in a suit and you have these they can and will subpoena the footage. So you walking around naked in your house will be viewed by multiple people and not just the creepers at the camera company.
2
u/Spare-Management3769 9h ago
People feel the need to film and post anything and everything. Thirsty as fuck to go viral.

It's a level of completely unmanaged neuroses that I can't even imagine. Genuinely, go to fucking therapy.
Also, if your home is filmed, please tell people who visit you. Not all of us are opting in on your control issues.
EDIT: I'm not interested in the excuses you make to validate your inability to meaningfully self regulate.

u/MileHiSalute 8h ago
Now doctor, if you can diagnose knowing absolutely nothing other than someone has a security camera in their living room, surely you can diagnose your own epistemic overconfidence
1
u/_WeSellBlankets_ 3h ago
What kinds of things are you doing in other people's houses? Speaking of unmanaged neuroses. Genuinely, go to fucking therapy.
1
u/DangerousCompetition 1h ago
Hi. Combat vet with trust problems who sees a therapist regularly here:
My house is recorded in all “high traffic” areas. I don’t check them unless I have a reason to. But I’ve had one too many very negative things happen in what are supposed to be “safe” places. Also gives both me and my wife the ability to identify the bump in the night from bed, before allowing the mind to run off to the bad place.
1
u/MyToasterRunsFaster 7h ago
I can promise you it's more common than you think, people with autistic children or for example like myself who takes care of someone who is seizure prone, a camera is life saving. Knowing how someone fell, how long it lasted and what were the circumstances is valuable information for the doctors. I totally get that you should tell people you have cameras, I always do but 99% it's people I already trust, and they know exactly why they are there in the first place. If they have a problem with being caught in a crossfire of some cameras then they can chill somewhere else.

u/KingLedleysKnee 6h ago

My cat used to play this trick on my other cat. He'd eat his food really fast, then go to the door to be let out. The other cat would see this, and run over to the door, too. As soon as I'd open the door, the second cat would run outside. Then the first cat would run over to the food dish and eat the other cat's food. It worked every day.

I’m always curious of why people have cameras recording in their homes at all times
4
u/Independent_Drive_23 6h ago
I have two hypothesis:
1: they were already robbed by a "friend"
2: they have kid/elderly/pet/etc... and set up the cameras just to record this.

u/thatonionsmell 5h ago
Being out of the house for 5 minutes while having kids I’m guessing. Making sure all is good

We have one specifically for the dog
Our neighbor’s kid comes in our house sometimes to dogsit, or sometimes we leave the dog alone for 1-2hrs. This helps to check on it

This reminds me of my old dog. She would stand at the back door like she wanted to go out. I would get up off the couch and walk all the way to the door. When I was a step or two away she would walk away from the door and go back to her bed. Little furry prankster!

I had a dog trick me once. We gated the upper level from the lower because we were house sitting a cat that the dog really wanted to fuck with for some reason. The dog acted like it wanted to go outside so I let him out. After only a moment it wanted back in. As soon as I opened the door I realized what the dog had done and I felt like such an idiot.
