What is your cleaning routine?

So, how does everyone approach regular cleaning and maintenance?

How often does your entire horn get a bath? What's your routine for cleaning and lubing your slide?

Got any favorite cleaners or lubes?

What are your go to tools?

Mouthpiece cleaning?

What do you use on your rotors?

Is there anything you think most people miss in taking care of their horn? Why is this important?

I'm sure younger members here would love the insight.

Advice on buying trombone

Im a senior in high school and I’ve been playing for 6 years. I want to pursue music after high school and I want to get a better horn. My trombone that I bought works for practice but it’s still a low quality horn. I have a budget of $800 so I’m wondering whether I should buy a higher quality student horn like a Yamaha, Bach, or Conn for like $200-300 or should I spend my all budget to hunt down a pro horn.

Selling?

I've been sitting on a Trigger trombone for quite a few years now always thinking I'm going to get back into playing, just for something else to happen and it sits....

I'd love the thought of it being used by somebody and am just not sure where to go to sell it! Any suggestions?

We lost the great Peter Norton last night.

So many good things can be said about him as a person and him as a player. One of the best to do it, his playing and his teaching inspired so many.

This is a recording that he sounds just incredible on, give it a listen.

Can anyone identify this bizarre mouthpiece?

I've found a listing on marketplace with this ridiculously-shaped mouthpiece. None of the pictures have a visible brand and the listing only clarifies it is a double-cup. Can someone tell me first what the hell kind of mouthpiece this and why it's shaped like that, and second where on god's green earth it comes from?

$120 listing btw

Tubing for traveling

To keep my embouchure in shape, i got 10 feet of tubing and my mouthpiece and brought them on vacation. (I really don't like just buzzing on the mouthpiece.)

Since it's not conical, the partials are all very stretched, so it's terrible for intonation. A funnel on the end didn't help.

I got bored with bugle notes, so I cut a hole about 11% of the way down, so i could get a whole step. (That's 2^(-2/12) for you math and physics people).

It's 3/8 inch ID vinyl tubing.

When i got back from vacation, i still sucked at trombone.

Getting Braces Next Week

Terrified to get braces this week, I’m a highschool sophomore and I have a lot of good things going for me on trombone, I’ve improved a lot, I’m auditioning in December for district honor band, I’ve started playing bass trombone, etc. I’m just really scared about how this is going to effect my playing, especially for my auditions since they’re pretty soon after i get my braces.

Any advice or personal experiences that anyone would like to share would be really helpful!

As the title says, I'm looking for some pieces to learn since I want to get back into trombone, it's been a while since I've picked it up and I've been craving the low brass (I'm primarily a High horn player)

Bass trombone doubling on tuba advice

What tips do you all have for a lifelong trombone player looking to get better at tuba for professional jazz and theater gigs? I’m especially interested in any air ideas or mouthpiece tips. I play on a Hammond 20BXL on my bass right now.

Advice for getting back into trombone after not playing for awhile?

Hello peoples. So I’m 21 and haven’t played trombone since highschool. I’ve really wanted to pick it back up for a while now but don’t really know where to begin.

Im currently in my first year of community college and wanted to try and get good enough to get into the symphony band at my school. I don’t own a trombone yet and I’m super rusty. My school also offers private classes that you can take. What would be the best course of action to take?

Alt. Positions with F attachment?

I got a "big kid" trombone later in my musical life, and I still don't know a huge amount about it. Can you play stuff higher than C3 with the F attachment, or is there some problem with that?

I ask because I'm playing a piece in community orchestra with a phrase that would be way easier if I could play D3 with the trigger in (I'm still clumsy at disengaging it quickly) but no position chart shows any trigger stuff above the C3 partial, which makes me think it isn't something people do.

Trigger trombone recommendations?

I was thinking of getting a Bach 42BO Stradivarius, since it’s the one I had in my high school’s wind ensemble. For jazz band I just had a Bach Student Tenor trombone, but instead of getting two separate trombones, for now I just want a trigger trombone that’s good for both classical and jazz music, whatever price. Does anyone have any models they’d recommend?

playing loud

hi everyone! im looking for advice on how to play louder without a microphone or just trying to blow as much air out as i can. i have a solo in one my songs for jazz and i feel like i am playing as loud as i can without completely screwing up my tone but my director says it sounds like im relying on a microphone to play louder. what do i practice to have better volume and to have good tone while playing loud. thanks!
