For those of you who may not know, this is the Baltimore Running Festival weekend, being held on Saturday, October 17th. This means YES there will be parking restrictions, and YES there will be road closures.

Rather than seeing a number of people saying they had no idea, and were left unprepared, here are links with info on the street closures and parking restrictions:

Welcome back to our crowdsourced Weekend events thread, so people can see what's going on that people might otherwise not know about. So post your events and activities and include relevant links. After closing a few years ago because of a greedy landlord at their original location, Thai Restaurant is about to reopen across from Normal's! Can't wait to see what they do with the space, or to eat their drunken noodles again.

Baltimore Love 💘 Caring for our unhoused neighbors

I’ve seen some posts that made me think that this may not be common knowledge. So, I thought I’d share. If you have experienced homelessness or have any other insights, perspectives, or resources PLEASE share.

How to support our unhoused neighbors:

  1. Do not make assumptions about what got them to this situation or why they are still in it. Not all unhoused individuals use substances or have mental illness, and if they do they should still be treated with dignity and respect.
  2. Is there someone you see regularly in your neighborhood? On your commute? If you feel safe to do so, ask if there is anything they need. If you don’t feel safe to do so, leave them alone.
  3. Keep supplies in your car or on your person. Some examples: non perishable food, narcan, bus passes, cash, socks, gloves, hand warmers, hats, first aid supplies, etc. A brief exchange at a stoplight could be life saving.
  4. Understand our city’s resources. Baltimore has a lot of resources for the unhoused community. Calling 211 can get you connected to resources 24/7. A quick google can connect you with organizations such as Beans and Bread, St Vincent DePaul, Healthcare for the Homeless, Manna House.
  5. Know extreme weather resources. Extreme heat is considered Code Red. Here are the resources Extreme Cold is considered Code Blue. Here are the resources
  6. There are resources for unhoused individuals with pets. Worried about the pet? Help the person care for their pet. BARCS has a Keeping Pet with Families program that helps keep people and their pets together. This can include housing pets while their owners are in emergency housing or connecting them with pet friendly housing. They also help with access to veterinary care and food. Safe Haven for Pets provides a search engine to find resources for pets whose owners are experiencing homelessness and/or domestic violence.
  7. When it comes to emergency mental healthcare, 988 is preferred to 911. 988 can dispatch mobile crisis teams including counselors, social workers, and nurses NOT cops or EMS. 988 will only dispatch cops or EMS if there is an active threat to life. Reportedly this occurs for less than 5% of calls.

Visiting Baltimore Looking for the girl who took the Greyhound with me from Pittsburgh to Baltimore

1.2k Upvotes

As the title says... I am looking for the girl who ended being my cuddle buddy the whole ride down from Pittsburgh to Baltimore on the Greyhound @1:30am on Tuesday 10/13/2026. Your name is Destiny. You asked if you could lay your head on my shoulder. I said yes. I offered you my black Carhartt sweatshirt to cover up since you were cold and had no jacket. You threw it on and it was a big sweatshirt so you curled up in it & cuddled up next to me the whole trip. I never got your number & would like to take you out for a bite to eat or a coffee possibly if you're interested. I hope I find you. -Ryan :)

POLICE Stolen CD collection - cash reward

A shot in the dark but if anyone sees anything about a 32-disc Vault case that was stolen from my car, please reach out. I’m really not sure if it is going to show up on ebay or if it’s just in a dumpster somewhere. It had some of my favorites from my collection including Beyoncé, Chappell Roan, David Bowie, Hozier, and Hamilton. I’d pay a good amount to anyone that can find it. Thank you.

P.S.I’ve already filed a police report, I just doubt anything will come of it.

Ask Best wings in Baltimore?

Who has the best wings in Baltimore? For reference, I like the Hooters Daytona-style wings. I've ordered from a few places and it's getting to be that the only wings I like anymore are the ones I make for myself.

All recommendations are appreciated.

Ask Is $400 a good price for this room?

My friend is offering me a room in their 3 bd townhouse in Mt Vernon (near the Prime Rib). Him and I would be the only people living there.

I’m not familiar with rent prices around here so I’m not sure if $400 is a good price for this area/arrangement?

Moves, Jobs, Meeting People Advice for relocating to Baltimore as a professional in biotech/pharma

Hi, everyone,

I'm a 32 year-old originally from Michigan, but I've been living in Europe for five years. I have a Master of Science in molecular biology and a couple of years of work experience in biotech and a bit of experience doing quality control at a chemical company. This year threw me some curveballs - my Swedish long-term partner, for whom I had moved to Sweden, ended our relationship. I became unemployed there because the job market was a nightmare (unemployment ~10%) and I could only find temporary work as a lab tech. After a few months of job searching in Sweden, I decided to move back to the U.S. and try to rebuild my career here.

I am currently staying with my family in the Ann Arbor, MI area but looking to relocate to the East Coast for a few reasons - more career opportunities, walkable cities with public transit, which I've gotten used to in Europe, and overall a more international and vibrant atmosphere than the Midwest. I am strongly considering Baltimore because it seems to be a decent spot for finding work in biotech or pharma and offers more reasonable cost of living than other major East Coast cities while still offering many of the perks like decent walkability. I also appreciate that it's possible to commute to D.C. (although not quick or easy).

I have been cold applying for jobs that I find on LinkedIn and Indeed in the Baltimore/D.C. area, but I understand that that tends to have a very low success rate in general, and I also strongly suspect that many of my applicants are being filtered out by AI tools because I'm forced to list my current Michigan street address and most companies only want local candidates.

For anyone who has successfully secured work in Baltimore while living out of state, how did you do it? And for those in my field of work, do you have any tips for landing a job in the area, i.e. which employers to target or who to reach out to about opportunities? I'm open to any kind of work even semi-related to bio - quality control, regulatory affairs (although no specific experience), biotech R&D, or even clinical trials (also no direct experience yet). I also worked as a technical writer for years before getting my master's.

Thanks in advance.

Ask Adult Halloween Happenings

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! Hoping it’s okay to ask it here, and I feel like this could be under several flairs so forgive me if you feel like it could have been labeled differently.
I’m hoping to start a thread of all goings-ons in and around Baltimore October 31
We were supposed to go to a party for Halloween but it got canceled, so I figured we could have a thread for everyone else making last minute plans too! Thanks

Food Coffee Shop Hours

What coffee shoos are open before 8am on Saturdays? I visited three (good boy bagels, 1Do, and last resort was Starbucks in Safeway) none of which were open. Opening a coffee shop at 8 seems a bit absurd to me. Nonetheless, I know Cafe Dear Leon opens at 6 however usually a long line to justify waiting in for a coffee.

If you are a coffee shop owner you should really consider opening at 7am.

I live along the race route and this is the first year I've seen the race run in cold, wet weather. I hope Baltimore turns out like it usually does to make the event memorable for the racers.

Ask Korean Tutor?

Looking for an in-person Korean tutor to meet at least once a week somewhere in/near the city.

I'm just starting to learn it and would benefit more from some in-person sessions than paying for online.

CCBC has paused their Korean language classes and don't see anything else recent in this sub. If there are other suggestions, I'd love to hear!
