How does one stay in a marriage where your spouse is deriding on half of your heritage every day. I would loose my shit if my husband said something random and hateful about dal & rice.

Internalized white supremacy is real

11

u/narcowake Jul 08 '26

Especially with the D’Souzas’ … remember Dinesh wrote a book called _The End of Racism_… what a pseudo intellectual clown

The D'Souza family is a bunch of pick-mes. She most likely hates her Indian half more than Gill does.

33

u/PhilosopherSalt107 Jul 07 '26

MAGA and the Klan would throw them out the first chance the get and yet DSouza will fight tooth and nail against anything Democrats do.

9

u/LatexSmokeCats Jul 08 '26

That D'Souza family but not all D'Souzas, and that's coming from a Goan. D'Souza and Fernandes are very common amongst us, like Patels amongst Gujaratis.

All D'Souzas are not related.

-2

u/tigerrroni Jul 08 '26

No one said all of them were like that, just this specific family. We get it, you’re Goan lmaoooo

4

u/LatexSmokeCats Jul 08 '26

As an attorney, I place a high value on precise language, including how the family is referenced. Since we see this differently, I’ll leave the matter here. This is my last response.

1

u/No-Text-3906 Aug 07 '26

Not to stereotype but a lot of goans + anglo-indians have internalised racism in my experience. As well as christian south asians in general.

37

u/Rough-Yard5642 Jul 07 '26

She probably wants to distance herself from 'other' indians, and views herself as one of the 'good ones' so to speak. The more she shits on Indians, the more people will view her as one of the good ones. I think that's what her thought process is.

8

u/ibarmy Jul 07 '26

But has anybody ever heard her talk. I feel i havnt seen her talk much in the media.

29

u/MasterChief813 Jul 08 '26

She’s said some vile ass shit on twitter. I remember her chest thumping her Christianity while deriding other faiths in India.

Then I recall her saying some wild shit about not eating with her hands (this was after her dipshit husband was attacking Mayor Mamdani eating with his hands and replies were pointing out that every single human eat with their hands and Desis like his wife and her family are known for it).

8

u/chai-chai-latte Jul 08 '26

No but it's different if it's pizza, hamburger or a hot dog ^(^(/s))

27

u/StrictPersonality503 Jul 08 '26

She doesn’t consider herself brown. She derided Zohran for eating with his hands while everyone eats different foods with their hands.

14

u/chai-chai-latte Jul 08 '26

Historically this family is a product of the Portugese colonial mind bending project (not to say they aren't responsible for their actions). The British once dreamt of creating a class of "Indians in blood and colour, but English in taste, in opinions, in morals, and in intellect." The Portugese were as if not more successful through their brand of torture and cultural genocide.

6

u/tigerrroni Jul 08 '26

There’s def the self hate with some of them, when they say that have more Portuguese culture than Indian ☠️ also like the Indians in Kerala who think they’re Jewish.

1

u/AmberViper419 Jul 10 '26

Historically this family is a product of the Portugese colonial mind bending project

Which is kind of funny because at one point in history a lot of Anglo-American Protestants wouldn't consider Portuguese Catholics to be "white" anyway.

The British once dreamt of creating a class of "Indians in blood and colour, but English in taste, in opinions, in morals, and in intellect."

The French did that too in their colonies.

Greed is a terrible drug

2

u/LongSandwic Jul 08 '26

Because her father was a self-hating jack@$$ who taught her every day that all things Indian are bad and anything ypipo think/say against Indians is correct.

Internalize that mess your whole life and you end up with a pretty sad mentality about your heritage.

1

u/arg777 Jul 23 '26

she doesn’t see herself as indian lol

1

u/Bubbly-Molasses7596 Jul 26 '26

Homegirl is a white supremacist too

0

u/Ok-Committee-1932 Jul 09 '26

D'Souzas are very whitewashed. I went to school with Goan Catholics in Pakistan, and they really felt out of place in South Asia. Maybe the situation is better in India. Their culture is already very Western-centric. They are not lighting Diwali lamps or wearing saris. They see our culture the same way white people do.

-1

u/ibarmy Jul 09 '26

wow i had no idea goans moved to pakistan too during partition. but ya i think there are a few who felt strongly about their 'european' heritage.

3

u/Background-Injury952 Desh-Born Indian Jul 17 '26

Goans moved there before and after Partition, Karachi was a globalised city which pre-80s was doing pretty well, and until 1962 Goans were Portuguese citizens.

That being said, Goan culture is not "Westernised". It's more influenced by Portugal than mainland India is but it has a unique indigenous culture nonetheless. Only certain upper caste and class Goan Catholics were extremely "Westernised. Reducing them to just white people who look brown is stupid.

No sympathy for the likes of Usha or Danielle.

Absolutely. They're the pinnacle of self hating opportunists. They'd sell out all their integrity for some power.

are they self hating ? or just opportunists.

To be fair, she took a bet on a guy that was on the low then, and it seems to have worked out.

2

u/GimerStick Jul 09 '26

What do you mean by on the low?

10

u/ConanTheBarbarian_0 Jul 08 '26

The other comments answering this question are utter nonsense.

There's a weird phenomenon that happens amongst non white people in western countries where they start to internalize a lot of racism and for whatever reason think they're "elevating" themselves into higher society by having a white partner. This happens sometimes to people who have experienced a lot of racism in childhood and it manifests this way later in life

NOTE that this doesn't mean they'll get with any white guy they usually have a very specific type. It's usually a well educated white man with a lot of earning potential. This is a really weird thing that happens across all demographics of people it's not necessarily an Indian woman thing. It's actually quite famously associated with East Asian women particularly in the bay area... Ever wonder why there's so many white man Asian women couples around?

I'm not saying ALL interracial relationships with white people are from internalized racism but there's definitely enough out there to be highly visible at this point.

During the Charlottesville racist gathering in 2017 I remember a lot of those men in attendance had Asian wives that were sitting around in lawn chairs waiting for their white husbands to finish chanting about Jews.

1

u/Babhadfad12 Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

Desiring to have more purchasing power by entering into a partnership with someone who is likely to be able to give you more purchasing power is not a weird phenomenon.  It just so happens that that person in that place had a certain skin tone/educational background/etc.

In a different country/region, perhaps where one did not immigrate from and skin tones are less varied, there would be other characteristics, such as parental lineage or some other factor that increases the likelihood of increasing purchasing power.

1

u/Knitsknits Jul 10 '26

how is marrying a well educated white man with high earning potential any different from marrying a well educated desi with high earning potential? I think it’s only problematic white worship when it’s a wealthy brown woman pining after a white guy with bad teeth and no college degree

A lot of what people find attractive is social conditioning, not necessarily biology. If you look at dating stats the highest rated men seem to be white men unfortunately, therefore the “top tier” women of all races will try to date them, at least to show other women that a high SMV man picked them. Water always finds its level 🤷‍♀️

Nice attempt at trying to sneak Neera into it, but it doesn't work. She doesn't work in an organisation that actively hates her type, and nor is she married to someone who would publicly humiliate her like that repeatedly.

2

u/RKU69 Jul 08 '26

Yeah she sucks for very different reasons

3

u/ibarmy Jul 08 '26

Neera caught some strays.  Ouch

2

u/Knitsknits Jul 10 '26

interesting how you named neera tanden but not vivek ramaswamy or his wife…

is it perhaps because you have a problem with indian women marrying out and not playing perfect little bahu and not because they married racists?

5

u/ibarmy Jul 08 '26

What is this sepoy thing i keep seeing these days?

18

u/beans_is_life Jul 08 '26

Colonialism term for Indian soldiers who fought for the East India Company.

4

u/ibarmy Jul 08 '26

In current context, it means ppl who are basically anti-indian/desi?

12

u/Whole-Fishing45 Jul 08 '26

Sell out / bootlicker basically

4

u/RKU69 Jul 08 '26

It means Indians/Desis who actively shill for and support white supremacist/imperialist causes

4

u/vrphotosguy55 Jul 08 '26

I wonder to what degree the sepoys did it out of desperation or lack of opportunity.

Seems unfair to connect poor Indians working for an overarching colonialist government to people that hate on others of the same background.

3

u/beans_is_life Jul 08 '26

The discussion on Sepoys is not binary. I was simply telling the person asking what the meaning behind the term was. It's similar to the term people use in America to describe a black man during slavery who was 'friendly' or aligned with white people (not gonna say it because it might be derogatory as a non black person).

24

u/jamjam125 Jul 07 '26

Why is it always desis that tolerate obscene levels of disrespect? Obviously I haven’t conducted a study so no I do not have empirical evidence but anyone who has been exposed to different cultures knows that this is a uniquely desi phenomenon.

Yeah, but I see very few black Americans tolerating that sort of indignity.

12

u/chaiwalnut Jul 08 '26

How is this "uniquely desi?" There are a shitton of Asians and latinos/as who act white, have white names, convert to various forms of Christianity and marry Conservative dudes or women. They erase their identities to derive some kind of benefit and who cares if they do?

5

u/tigerrroni Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

I care and others do too. Theres tons of discourse around Asian/Latino woman who marry white men, and Indian women who do it for similar reasons aren’t excluded. Self hate and craving white validation as a person of color is the most embarrassing thing you can do. Supporting Trump and conservative ideologies is laughable. I think we’re naturally gonna be more critical of our own kind though for being weak willed/minded. People here aren’t bringing up other races if we’re trying to hold our own to a higher standard.

Some Latinos are "white" though. I mean, not that "white" is really a solid category, but since being "Latino" is based on geography and culture, there are plenty of people from Mexico, Central and South America who are primarily or even entirely of European ancestry. And there's nothing inherently wrong it that. Its when you decide to get racist about it that it becomes an issue.

4

u/tigerrroni Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

Really? Because there’s a lot of self hate there too with putting the “white” ones on a pedestal. Also, the amount of colorism I’ve seen from Latinos towards their own more indigenous looking relatives, being happy when a baby is white passing, using the N word casually, casual racism against anyone not white, etc, was crazy growing up. It exists within every culture and Latinos aren’t exempt. The amount of Latinos for Trump probably outnumbers other ethnic groups who support him too.

I refuse to believe that those white children came from an Indian woman 🤣🤣

Or is she only half-Indian herself?

59

u/vrphotosguy55 Jul 07 '26

She’s half Indian herself.

Dinesh is married to a white American woman.

38

u/Bollywood-Hulk-Hogan Indian-American (Punjabi) Jul 07 '26

Oh, that makes a lot of sense.

Ngl, I’m not a fan of our weird “racial system” where half-white and half-other race people are only referred to by their non-white heritage.

I agree that race is a social construct but ethnicity is real. But people in America don’t track ethnicity because all the Europeans mixed and just became “white”.

Regardless, half of his wife’s ancestry comes from Europe, so I don’t understand why only the Indian side gets all of the spotlight.

The funny thing is that I imagine she doesn’t care either. People who think like she does want to assimilate into whiteness. Judging by how her kids look, I imagine she must be pretty pleased with herself.

2

u/AmberViper419 Jul 10 '26

There are plenty of objectively brown people who are still considered white cause they’re Europeans (Ex Mediterraneans). It’s about heritage

Eh, calling Mediterranean Europeans "brown" is a bit of a stretch. Its more that "white" is itself a meaningless concept. You have people in Italy and Greece who objectively have the same skin tone as people in Lebanon or Kabylia. If you didn't know someone's surname, religion or country of origin, a lot of people from North Africa and the Middle East and even India would be considered "white." In fact, I still love pointing out how Rami Malek caught flak for playing an Egyptian Pharaoh because he was "white," even though he is about as purely Egyptian as a person could be in the modern era.

u/AmberViper419 Jul 11 '26

Agreed. That and the fact that it just sounds demeaning. Black Americans, unfortunately, are largely united by their skin colour. They have recent ancestry going back to sub-Saharan Africa, but so much of their culture and identity has been eroded over time. They aren't Wolof, Mandé, Yorùbá, Kongo, Fulani, Hausa, Ewe, Akan or Igbo anymore. They haven't been for generations. Not in any meaningful sense. They are Americans. They speak English. They are largely Christian. They follow American customs. There are certainly some cultural practices that could be traced back to sub-Saharan Africa, but its only a part of a larger Creolized heritage. Being black is the most relevant facet of their identity today.

"Brown" seems like a way of randomly lumping together anyone Latino, North Africa, Asian, and even beyond to include Pacific Islanders or even some Europeans apparently. Not only is it a bit demeaning, but its so broad as to be useless since you have no idea who were are talking about. I love my Asian and Latino brothers, but we face different struggles. It seems disingenuous to lump something like 60% of the world's population together unless there are specific reasons for doing so. (And, more often than not, you may as well just go with the designation of "human" at that point).

13

u/ShredGuru Jul 07 '26

Somehow calling someone a halfbreed is far more offensive.

3

u/chai-chai-latte Jul 08 '26

That's usually how caste works. When race is treated as a caste it's no different.

Think highborn and lowborn in game of thrones / medival times. If a noble has a child with peasant/merchant whoever else, the child is not born a noble.

It's type of racial casteism / feudalism that the world holds onto unfortunately.

u/jenlas725 Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

I’m 100% Indian and my husband is white.. my kids are 100% white passing. Seems like it’s not the case with her, but it’s possible

9

u/Frogiie Jul 08 '26

Yup, I’m half white and half Indian. My mom is uber white. Most people have absolutely no idea I’m Indian.

I had an Indian colleague come up to me a few months ago and say “Oh your last name is Punjabi! Are you married to one??” I said “I am one 🙃”. But yeah it’s very possible and that kind of stuff happens to me all the time.

8

u/chaiwalnut Jul 08 '26

Same. My kids are blond and green eyed. I assumed the hair would darken up as they got older, but it's holding. My brother-in-law is half Irish and half-Kashmiri. He could pass for Italian, but his sister has flaming red hair, green eyes and the palest skin.

17

u/throwRA_157079633 Jul 08 '26

I work at an American restaurant/cafe and an Indian girl showed up with her white BF. She ordered something to go, so I had to ask “what’s the name on this order?” The girl panicked because she’d have to share her name with big black me - an Indian dude. So she deferred to her white BF even though he wasn’t ordering. If that girl had a brain or the right frame of mind, she could have used any pseudonym.

1

u/wideeyedmonkey Jul 12 '26

Why would she care about you knowing her name?

7

u/narcowake Jul 08 '26

Guess the growing Indian demographic in Texas really isn’t much of a constituency (though they love being republican there)

6

u/vrphotosguy55 Jul 08 '26

A lot of them are sadly Republican. Low taxes, hating gays, what have you

3

u/narcowake Jul 08 '26

Yes agree, sadly .. but they are blind to the white republicans’ racism , profit trumps hatred of their demographic, and mutual hate of others, I guess - a new caste system emerges.

3

u/Ok-Committee-1932 Jul 09 '26

Not the only one. Abdul's hijabi Indian wife does not make a single appearance in his entire
campaign material.

2

u/vrphotosguy55 Jul 09 '26

Yeah I worry about how his wife wearing a hijab will play out in the general.

2

u/Ok-Committee-1932 Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

I think it would be a permanently diminished role, and it's a price worth paying given how Rama Duwaji was attack material for the RW/Zionist lobby.

Shit would probably get wilder in the general, but this should not mean that Abdul should not try his best.

3

u/pamatime Jul 08 '26

1

u/SuperSultan Jul 09 '26

-10

u/oddblueberries Jul 08 '26

I don't want to defend them, but I think the criticism is a bit ridiculous. Not every photo has to be a family photo! It would be weird to photoshop his wife out, but that's not what happened. He just happens to be posing with his kids.

3

u/vrphotosguy55 Jul 08 '26

I think it's the fact that the picture was accompanying white nationalist rhetoric.

Like "my white kids (who have a half Indian mom, shhh) can't grow up in a white country".

I don't believe something more innocuous like "I love my kids" would be criticized similarly.
